    You make fun and neat videos. I remember having a Casio 1" portable lcd tv in the mid 80s. Shortly after, the 1st gen Gameboy came out.

    doens't look like 1" on my 28" monitor.. Good thing your'e camera has a good zoom, otherwise we wouldn't be able to see a thing on such a small screen!

    Technically the luma channel from the S-video out should give you an even sharper picture. The viewfinder video input circuit probably does not have any kind of comb or notch filter so you are probably getting chroma cross talk. Or maybe this does not matter in PAL only in NTSC...

    You should build a 5-1/4 inch drivebay mount so you can mount it in a drive bay.

    Would be interesting how this would look with multiple mirrors and magnifying lens to produce a crt display that fits in a 50" lcd tv screen case.

    Black and Whiet and Monochrome CRTs don't have a shadow mask so they are as sharp or on thr same level as fixed pixel display sharpness

    • @mrnmrn1
      @mrnmrn1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, but still very impressive because the whole screen is 1" diagonally, so the command line characters were absolutely microscopic, yet perfectly readable.

      There's still the graininess of the phosphor layer, and it sometimes takes away a lot of the sharpness. I have some 2 inch CRTs that suffer from that

    I had this in mind for years and years but the only screen like this I ever had was ages before I thought I would ever want to hack it scrapped to pieces which I surely regret now. just of curiosity though, it sounds like you say forty-eighty-six (4086) when you say 486? or am I hearing it wrong, since it is a four-eighty-six :)

      its not a real 3-gun color crt. I have several of those also here. Just one electron beam and a very tricky circuit to measure the location of the beam to generate a color image. unfortunately the color quality is not that great and crisp. Its also hard for this kind of tubes to display pure red. therefor i used the panasonic tv set in my video coz it has the world smallest real 3 gun crt. ☺️
