  • Everyone had a first day in RC… EVERYONE! In Episode 011 of our “Get Into RC” video series, we are sending you to school, RC school. In this video we are going to teach you the names of the electronic components related to your RC vehicle. Some of you may be asking why. Others will be excited that they don’t have to walk into a hobby store and ask for a square doohickey part. This particular episode will deal just with all sorts of RC electronics parts. We’ll tell you and show you what a servo is, a battery, a speed control, and we’re even going to dip into some charger talk. There are a lot of different RC car electronic offerings for everything we talk about, but by the time you are done watching, you should have a very good general understanding of what the electronics parts are called.

    I just want to give you props for your teaching style. You seem to have the proper demeanor and temperament for teaching. It helps that I'm interested in the subject matter, but you make learning this stuff fun and easy. My wife asked me what I was doing yesterday, and I said, going to RC class. Haha. She just rolled her eyes and laughed. She says I'm an overgrown man child and I kind of agree.🤣 Thanks again.

    Good video but in your series would like to see you do the larger scale gas stuff and that it isn't a break your bank if you don,t want it to be, and after people see that they can get up into the larger scales like 1/5th gas and really have a blast with them, Nitro is a lot of fun also to whether you are just a back yard basher or down at the track , but from a point of price and maintaining, racers or hobbyist no that nitro is a lot more finessing and tuning over gas powered, is a lot less messing around with the tuning glow plugs fuel etc; when it comes down to it you will be enjoying and having a lot more fun with gas powered over nitro powered, Don,t get me wrong nitro is a blast to build and race as well, Well thanks for my 2 cents worth lol and look forward to maybe seeing an episode of nitro vs gas,
    Thanks
    Bear.

    One suggestion I have is before or after explaining something, tell what it’s function is. Some people new to RC cars or electrical components might not know the purpose of having a servo. Ex: these are primarily used in steering, turning the wheels left and right. Great video though!

    Question, I want to put a castle sct in my traxxas rustler (crazy I know) and I want to get some aluminum axles that can handle the sct and are compatible with the rustler. Any suggestions?

    • @rcdriver
      @rcdriver  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aluminum driveshafts are typically used in stock motor applications. If you go with a wild Castle system, you chance shearing an aluminum driveshaft.

You hit throttle power comes back lights stop blinking. ? It's a ready to run out the box tent scale beswit rc truck A rebrand of hosim X07.

    Unless I missed it , you don'y say what the basic function of a " servo " or
    a " speed control " are . Thought it might be good to know .

    What is better the rustler or the river hobby octane?im a casual basher and live near parks and a track but not near a off road dirt track.

    • @markoftheus

      I personally like the Rustler for general bashing. It's easy to work on and extremely easy to get parts for. Both OEM parts and aftermarket parts are readily available for the Rustler at just about any RC hobby dealer, both online and in person.

    Do you have a suggestion on what charger to buy?

    • @portalsam7
      @portalsam7 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That depends: what battery type(s) will you be charging? Specs of the pack?

    • @stratoshf7537
      @stratoshf7537 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      AllStealthBlazing 2s or 3s lipo 6k or so

    • @portalsam7
      @portalsam7 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      What capacity (mah)?

    • @portalsam7
      @portalsam7 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you mean it is 6000mah, then multiply 11.1 volts (3 cell) by 6 amps to get a wattage of 66.6, so make sure your charger can output that wattage. You would also want a charger that can charge at 6 amps. Some suggestions: the Dynamite Prophet Precept or the Kinexsis kx80

    Is a soft case pack LiPo battery safer then a hard case pack?

    • @markoftheus
      @markoftheus ปีที่แล้ว

      Generally no. The problem with soft case packs is that if you bash your vehicle hard, the cells of the soft packs are more vulnerable to getting damaged. If one of the cells was to ever get punctured, the battery can start on fire. I always try to get a hard case pack for all my basher vehicles.

    Do you have any videos or rewinding the RC dc motors? When I was younger, there was one guy that beat out everyone, he claimed that he custom wound his motors.

    • @markoftheus
      @markoftheus ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In the older days of RC, brushed motors had more tunability and could actually be taken apart both for custom tuning and service. People would experiment with different brushes, springs, bearings, and I wouldn't be surprised if that even included the copper windings. These days, many brushed motors have a sealed endbell and are made to be used just as is and then thrown away after wearing out.

    Just bought a castle mamba x with a 2400kv sensored motor for my slash 2wd. I've only upgraded the transmission case. I will be running 3s with a 54/19 gearing. Is there anything else I should upgrade? I suspect that the axles might snap

    • @rcdriver
      @rcdriver  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you're correct, you may want to consider an axle upgrade. Traxxas, Pro-Line and MIP all offer steel axles for the truck.

    Have you experimented with turning *off* the voice-activation on your microphone? You record in a very quiet setting so I rather hear the bit of white noise over the cut-off. The cut-off is very disruptive to my ears.
    Alternatively, you could look into filtering the noise out completely. I haven't done sound recording in a long while to be honest, but I swear you could do that even with free software (I was using linux at the time).

    • @rcdriver
      @rcdriver  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've been experimenting with a number of settings and filters for the Rode and Lapel mics I use. I'm going to keep working on it. Thank you for pointing out what you are experiencing.

    my rc car runs full throtle when i turn off transmitter. help?

    • @markoftheus
      @markoftheus ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not a good idea to be turning the transmitter off while the car is still on. Make sure you turn off the car first (and disconnect the battery) and then turn the transmitter off last. The transmitter should always be the first thing you turn on and the last thing you turn off.
