Who would think that a novel by Emily Bronte from 1847 would find itself in a song in 1978, written by a British experimental artist with a glass-breaking high-note register and then covered by a Brazilian progressive metal band in 1993 on their debut? Release, “Angels Cry” recorded in Germany! Amazing. And Andre Matos was so brave to attempt it, but did an amazing job! I had to quickly look for the live version because I couldn’t tell if a female vocalist was helping with some high parts, but it was his (falsetto ?) voice. Really fun to listen to and to watch! Not just the vocals but of course the keys & drums - all of it. It was so full. And mostly, I’m so touched that you made those connections for me to enjoy. So appreciated ... along with everything you do. Your love of this music is obvious and it brings joy. I liked Marley’s participation too. Ahhh, who gets this kind of treatment?!! And you couldn’t have possibly known my deep, personal connection with São Paulo, Brazil. I’ll explain more later but for now: VAI-VAI!! And thank you both so so much!! 💜🤪

There's such an immense character to Andre Matos' voice. Beyond talent and vocal strength, it's distinct, emotive, and tactful -- bleeding sensitivity and sensibility. You hear it on this track and, from the same album (Angels Cry), on the quintessential prog/power metal anthem, Carry On. (And elsewhere on that album, too.) Then from the Holy Land album, on tracks like Make Believe and Deep Blue. Just incredible. BTW- Beyond his extraordinary work with Angra, Shaman, etc, I encourage anyone to check out his 2001 side project with Sascha Paeth, named "Virgo". That album has been criminally overlooked. Perhaps from being too-diverse / between-genres. It's a richly rewarding & enjoyable listen start to finish. Eclectic. Sample songs like: To Be, No Need To Have An Answer, Discovery, River, Blowing Away, I Want You To Know, Fiction.

I mean somehow Chuck Schuldiner made it even more intense, and that he changed the style of his voice, as if it were a more intense vocalization of Halford is unbelievable that he could sing/scream like that through the whole damn song. Angra, is this the band that sang Sprouts of Time? Greetings from Liverpool UK, I'm loving your reactions. May I suggest a couple of bands that get so overlooked, the first is Mostly Autumn. This band is a cross between Pink Floyd and Irish folk rock band Clannad, suggested track is The Night Sky from For All We Shared with guitar and violin solo. The second band is Jadis, believe me anything by them is fab. Happy musical discoveries.

Nah, he wasnt, that was just a rumor that was circled around by south American publications, same happened in Europe with kiske and north America with James LaBrie, but aside from James neither of them got closer than sending tapes, Harris always said he wanted a British singer, kiske didnt send any tape and matos didnt make it into any form of shortlist, the international singers that sent stuff did it because the label ask Rod to AT LEAST try to find singers outside england.
Some stupid persons did'nt know what are a "cover" (a tribute). I met Kate Bush music just after bought this Angra LP (in 90's) and I believe many people from my generation to. (sorry for my english, I'm brazilian.) Ps.: "Lasting Child" (from this same album) is great too.
What a great cover. That voice almost puts Peter Gabriel, Geddy Lee, and Phil Collins to shame. The other heavy metal singer with an incredible voice, but of a completely different style, is of course Disturbed's David Draiman.
I know the entire Kate Bush catalog, she is a genera unto herself, like the Beatles or Pink Floyd; and she produced her own music videos and choreographed the dancing, she a real unique talent and that's probably why so many folks are saying why-play-a-cover-when-you-can-hear-the-icon? But I thought it was a great cover. Like Nick I also thought the original Bush version was a little high and scarier and weirder sounding to music pedestrians. Her version from her hits collection "the whole story" has a rerecorded vocal track she did herself about 15 years after the original and it's a much more mature and digestible presentation. She was around 16 when she wrote the original. Pat Benatar also recorded a great version. I seem to have gone off on a tangent about Wuthering Heights when I should have spoken to the great instrumentation and vocal performance Angra. I enjoyed this, thanks

Have you guys listened to Jethro Tull? I get the sense that you would both like them. Ian Anderson is a musical genius and has a beautiful voice. If you haven't check out the band, I recommend starting with the Benefit album (1970), but Aqualung (1971), Thick As A Brick (1972), A Passion Play (1973) & Songs From The Wood (1977) are ALL awesome. Who knew it would be so fun watching younger generations listen to the music that we boomers came of age listening to?

Yes I noticed that too. Sad. I wish Angra would do a covers of more stuff. Painkiller is amazing. It's sad that lots of people are so negative towards Andre. He was a master composer and vocalist. RIP his blessed soul❤️
