With the ball and socket armature, I've heard that it can be a bit noisy when you move it/pose the doll. Is this true? And if so does the batting inside the doll help to muffle that noise at all? :o
Thanks for sharing Nat, I use galavanised fencing wire, in 3 different thicknesses for my armatures, I have had the aluminium wire snap on me after sculpting and assembling my dolls, it is a little too fragile. I like that ball and socket armature, it would be great for the spines.
No problem, I've been making dolls for about 5 years now and made over 300 dolls, I've never had a problem with this particular wire, other aluminium wire is fragile but this one is much stronger than the rest I've come across. I don't actually like the way steel wire poses, I just find it not very fluid.
Kaye Schlenert hi! I know you commented this around 2 years ago but I’m new to the art doll community thing lol and I have chosen to start with a steel wire, do you have any recommendations on how I should twist, bend, pose etc. them. If I could get a few tips from someone with experience that would be great! Thank you!
How do you actually connect your armature to your resin pieces? I have a problem sometimes with my smaller dolls that the armatures will come off/out of my resin/clay pieces.
You can use hot glue and super glue to fix the armature into your resin parts and finish with some epoxy putty like Apoxie sculpt. That's how I do my dolls and I never had any problems with parts coming off.
This might come across as a dumb question, but is the jeton ball and socket armature oven safe..? There might be times when I need the sculpey to attach directly to it, so I’m unsure how to go about it…
I probably wouldn't put it in the oven as it is just plastic and would most likely melt. If you are interested I have a tutorial in my shop and on my Patreon of how I attach my armatures.

Se for aquele negócio de plástico do começo, é conhecido como ball and socket armature, é bem usado em bonecos de stopmotion. E suponho que teria que importar
It's definitely on the list! I'll be adding a tip post to my $10 and above tiers on my Patreon in the coming weeks if you're interested in something like that.
They're a wholesaler so you have to contact them, you also have to spend a minimum of $500usd plus freight and international transfer fees. If you are looking for smaller quantities, I have some available in my shop at creaturesofnat.com
You use residents don't you? I wish I could afford it and use it but I can't. Any substitutes? Sorry, this is a armature materials video but it came to my mind so I had to ask
Before I learned about what those ball and socket pliars are I accidentally literally broke off one of the sockets from attempting to snap a portion off and now i feel like theres no way to get that small broken piece off the ball (´༎ຶོ_༎ຶོ`) Uh.. anyone care to give suggestions on what to do????
TYSM!! Im becoming an animal artdoll artist, and i needed this! Tysm!
No problem. :)
Oh its great to see a fellow Aussie artist on youtube, not many of us on here.
Thank you so much! You inspired me to get into the art doll buisness and now I am a professional art doll artist! You are amazing and I lysm
You have boat load of talent. You are amazing!
Aw thanks!
When you just use coat hangers XD
What the fuck i'm retarded how did I not think of that?!
Wish I’d know. About those stupid pliers. I got one from hobby lobby and was able to pop it off fine but now can’t put it back together
I had a look at your website, you are very talented

Hmm, I haven't really noticed them to be too noisy. there can be a little noise when posing but I never thought it was noisy personally.

True, it can be hard to bend, for fingers etc. I like the aluminum for smaller dolls and faeries. Great info :-)

How do you do pose able toes? Like individual ones. Its something I haven't been able to actually get.
I know I’m pretty early to this comment but maybe you can try Lego joints.

What Willow said XD
Willow Whiteraven thank you! I've used many different glues but not the epoxy, I'll try that.
thanks for the video, but can you make a video saying how to do a wire armature
Excuse me but what is the tool called? For the plastic armature?
Where did you buy hinges?? ❤️💕
Dont the plastic ones squeak when moved? I had that issue with a cheaper plush with that plastic spine. Any way to prevent the squeak from moving?
Not really, I've never really experienced a super squeaky armature.
This is much appreciated I must ask I bought the armature and the right sized clamp but no matter how hard I try I can’t get it apart…. Any tips?
Hmm I've never had that problem before, you could try heating the armature a tad to make it expand?
@@CreaturesofNat thanks I think I figured it out, I just didn’t pull hard enough :)

the thing at the beginning is what they put in ftm packers to make them useable for "fun time" hehehe
What the hell
I love your vids! Im a fan of your dolls
Thank you for sharing all these helpful tips with us
Aw no problem and thank you!
@creaturesofnats is there a way to purchase the ball socket armature? I want to use it for a bad figurine on doing.
Hi, love your videos! I buy a 2mm copperwire from the hardware store and do bracelets with, would that work for inside a doll like that???
Copper wire is fine too, aluminium is just cheaper, you could probably make a small doll with it. :)

What glue do you use?
Do you have any tutorials on using the ball and socket one creatng a doll? Im confused at how to add arms and hips to that.

Hey, where do you buy the jeton bead things, I can find the site of the company but can't find where to buy it
They're a wholesaler so you have to contact them, you also have to spend a minimum of $500usd plus freight and international transfer fees. If you are looking for smaller quantities, I have some available in my shop at creaturesofnat.com
@@CreaturesofNat thank you I'll go check
Thanks so much. This really helped :)
Que pegamento usas?
hi where did you get that plastic spine from?
I actually have some available in my shop on creaturesofnat.com
You use residents don't you?
I wish I could afford it and use it but I can't. Any substitutes?
Sorry, this is a armature materials video but it came to my mind so I had to ask
Residents? Not too sure what you're referring to.
@@CreaturesofNat sorry I got auto corrected
I meant resin
@@RAMMLAUT Ah haha yup I do, you can use clay but there's really nothing else that can substitute resin.
