    Another great video. Your comments regarding the Stella tent were insightful. You highlighted some important issues… like the tiny porch, the wind exposed zip, and the short fly sheet. You also demonstrated that this tent might not be long enough for folks over 6’ tall, which would be key for me if I were in the market for a tent. I have the Bastion tarp, the 2 person down blanket, and perhaps a waste of money… bought on a whim… but was a fun and not very expensive purchase, the Tentsformer poncho tent, all from Onetigris. So far am very happy with their build qualities. I suspect the Stella tent is also made very well.
    Again, your videography was really nice. The drone shots were so cool! Thank you for another half hour of fine entertainment!

      Thank you Mark. 👍 I think you a right Onetigris equipment is very well made. I have a few bits of theirs and never had an issue. I'm out in the Rock Fortress on Wednesday as its to be cold 🥶 even down in Dorset. Thank you for your comments they are very much appreciated 👍

    I just ordered this tent (Sept. 2024) it will arrive this week… when I ordered, in the description it says they have “upgraded doors” which NOW have a double zipper, one for the newly upgraded mesh screen door snd and a zipper for the fully enclosed door. We shall see if they took everyone’s criticisms and improved on this tent since you made this video.

      Thanks Anthony! What's your thoughts on the tent? I was going to take it to Scotland this week as its due for some heavy snow but I noticed the stitching in one of the corners is coming apart so will be sending it back. 😕

    I have both Lanshans, and yes you can lower it to the ground, and peg the doors down, that's my standard 'wind configuration' for it. I've modded mine with bigger/longer guys and bungees which do away with the silly rams horn thing. But yes, only problem with that is it does flap greatly, and of course, if you don't mod the guys to get a better ridgeline, you can get the inner/outer touching.

    • @greyhikes5236
      @greyhikes5236  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Absolutely I think most tents don't suit all if you don't mod them at some point then you won't use it. 👍

    It looks like you didn't have a good night in the Stella tent. Unless you are in a forest or hollow terrain that blocks heavy snow and strong winds, a winter tent should have a strong frame, thick, sturdy fabric, and long, wide skirts to block strong winds. Don’t you think we need better quality all-season tents in severe environments?

    • @greyhikes5236
      @greyhikes5236  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think your right with the term quality. I didn't feel the Stella had that. It is very similar to another tent in the onetigris range. It is the first tent I've ever sent back tbh. I think there has to be clearer standards on what qualifies a tent as 4 season. To many budget tents and equipment also have ratings that are just made up tbh. I've actually just converted my MSR Elixir 2 inner into a 4 season inner by closing off all the mesh with 20d nylon because we couldn't find a one that suited. 👍

    The canopy is not designed to go all the way down to the ground for the purposes of reducing condensation!

  • @Mrsmith74

    Without the rock in the way that outer goes lower & if you pitch it properly using the velcro straps it holds its shape better👍

    • @greyhikes5236
      @greyhikes5236  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi Kev, I've put it on the local park just to check how low it goes and as I said in the video it would go down an inch or so which it did. The velcro did hold the shell better but when putting it up in the wind on the coast it was a bit of a pain. I was going to do a follow up video on the park but for the life of me I couldn't get the porches lower to the ground. Best I could do was about 3 inches gap. I think unless your camping in the garden your never going to get a perfect pitch but for me having a gap where your kit is going to be isn't great. Having MSR's I think I will have to splash out and get the Access for 4 season camping but at the price I might as well go for a Hilleberg! 😅 For a budget tent is ok, but it depends on what is defined indevidualy as 4 seasons 👍

      @Mrsmith74 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @greyhikes5236 you're absolutely correct, the fly never touches the ground but I found the no mesh inner combined with a reasonable height bathtub allowed ventilation without needing to open the top vents without any driving rain ingress.
      I wouldn't take it to the himalayas I admit but for a sub £200 tent it's incredible.
      It's kept me warm & dry through a mid December camp on Great mis in dartmoor & last Friday in 0 degrees on Great staple tor.
      This tent is epic for the money, I think you could've been more positive.

    • @greyhikes5236
      @greyhikes5236  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Mrsmith74 I don't think I was to negative on it as it's a matter of opinion as I haven't taken it up to Scotland yet. It is great for £200 but for me when it's described as 4 season and on my last 4 videos my question is 'what defines a 4 season tent' so I wouldn't be comfortable saying it was due to the gaps. However I did say that it was way warmer than the Lanshan 1 & 2 4 seasons that I tested previously. So it has some positives and some negatives. I'm not an authority in tents as I've said in the video I don't do reviews. It's up to individuals to do their reaserch and kind of make there own decisions. The ODGR guy loves this tent and states that he has thoroughly tested it even though he hasn't attached any guy lines to it? I will see how it gets on in Kintail next month in the snow. Its great to hear your having some good results with the tent hopefully I will too next month 🤞

    Not sure what you're talking about it's set up exactly for winter and the rainfly is not supposed to touch the ground on this particular tent. Set up poorly

    • @greyhikes5236
      @greyhikes5236  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I've replied to you on your other point. If that's the case it's not a 4 season tent. It would be the only tent I've ever purchased that the fly can't be dropped to ground level. You will never get a perfect pitch unless your on a football field unfortunately. I'm glad that the tent works for you but it wouldn't have been the right tent to use in the snow which was my intentions. 👍

      Hi, it was snowing when I went up into the Scottish Highlands but I didn't take the tent with me an returned it to the seller. This was due to the seam being split at the stitching on the bath tub and as you have experienced with the lack of ventilation on my version you have to leave the doors unzipped. I took my MSR Elixir 2 which isn't the perfect answer but did the job. Hope this helps? 👍

      For what it is yes when you see other tents. I was more interested in my 4 season question and unfortunately it fell short of that. I think my Lanchan 1 offers more by being able to drop it to the ground but still I don't think it would fair well in windy conditions.👍

      I think that to be classed as a 4 season tent the fly must be able to touch the ground so that snow doesn't drift under onto the inner. I purchased this tent to take to Scotland to use in the snow. The wind wouldn't be an issue unless it gets under the tent which again would not class this as four seasons. My whole take on the tent is that on TH-cam it was being sold as the best budget 4 season tent, so I bought it. My look at it pointed out some issues that in my opinion doesn't fall into the cartagory of a true 4 season tent. I have been told that there is an updated version however when I ordered it unfortunately it was exactly the same. Don't understand your other question but it's illegal to wild camp in England especially under a coast guard observation point. 😉
