Hi Gidi. Ravel is a master in orchestration, so his music is still very colourful. Yo u also may like "La mer" (the sea) by Claude Debussy - another French composer contemporary of Ravel.
one request i have is Debussy: Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune it is a similar piece to Daphnis et Chloe in the sense that is very colorful and like you said like a movie
if you love the end of act 1 [or is it act 2? I forget... the Pirate Dance that you loved when you were making jazz-stink-face in the middle :P ] you'll REALLY love Ravel's Symphonic Poem Scherezade (not to be confused with Rimsky-Korsakov's of the same name, which is much longer)
This is one of my favorite pieces ever. It's just so devastatingly beautiful. I usually dont get emotional but hearing Daphnis in person would probably have me in tears
Hi Gidi. I've just started watching your reaction, and I'm really glad you chose this piece by Ravel. He was well known for beautiful orchestration. The whole thing is a warm, deep, mind massage!
A harp sounds beautiful no matter what you play. I once had the opportunty to mess with a lever harp. If you adjust the levers randomly while playing, it gives a still beautiful sounding but very modern sound. I also recommend the Harp Concerto by Ginastera.
Metal pancakes are antique (sounding) cymbals. Also get them in Rite of spring. I bet this piece influenced Vaughan Williams, notably Pastoral symphony and 'Job'.
So many times haha. Many requested the second suite since it’s more compact and probably easier to grasp but I’m really glad he reacted to the whole ballet. This is Ravel’s masterpiece undoubtedly and the score is a masterclass in orchestration by itself.
It was one of the first pieces that ever got recommended in the discord server. Now with the new improved recommendation channels you can't see it anymore though. This piece was probably already recommended prior to the existence of the server though
Another amazing ballet to listen to is "Maracatu do Chico Rei" by Francisco Mignone. Its Wonderful, its Very Brazilian (african Brazilian in fact), u should listen ☺️❤️
Not the greatest performance I've heard, but the piece is still always a wonder. It is an olympic effort for any orchestra and this one did an excellent job. Plus any reservations I have would be towards recording quality/balance (understandable, since it's a concert recording), and maybe some debatable interpretation choices by the conductor (also understandable given the time limits of the rehearsal process for a single philharmonic concert). I still think that somehow the best recording to date is Boston Symphony with Charles Münch from 1955 - and it's not just some "things were better in the old days" talk, I usually don't like the sound of old orchestras and this one is still a surprise to me. On the other hand, I may just be biased towards that one interpretation I've listened to most often... Still, give it a try, you never know ^^
This piece will always give me chills - so glad you’re reacting to it! If I may shamelessly plug th-cam.com/video/Q30TBF0H7fQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Jp_5Y3H3p4SXplOT Royal College of Music Symphony Orchestra with the late Bernard Haitink 7 years ago (I’m leading the cellos having the time of my life) - I’ll never forget it, it’s a pretty incredible performance, Haitink made the (albeit high standard) students become pros. I’ll cherish that concert forever!
Here is a suggestion, Gidi. A performance by the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra conducted by Gustavo Dudamel in 2007 at the BBC Proms: Danzón No. 2 by Arturo Márquez. Latin rhythm and lush orchestration. Enjoy!
So, is this a straight-to-TH-cam reaction? Next, the full Ballet (pronounced 'baal.ay) An intensely lush piece performed to perfection. Good choice / great reaction, the look of pleasure on your face was everything.

Daphnis is a wonderful work, and it's played - and sung! - superbly here; you picked a great performance to react to. So glad you enjoyed it :)

Masterpiece! Guys find the Claudio Abbado recording with London Symphony Orchestra, nothing comes close.
So good to see how you are moved and discover new instruments. You move me as well !
Completely random listening recommendations! Béla Bartók’s “Bluebeard’s Castle” and William Walton's "Belshazzar's Feast"
Yessss I love this one
i wonder how many times this has been requested...
lol surprised this sat in the waiting queue for so long

I have requested it one or two times and replied that it needed to be a version with choir to others multiple times. Great we got it finally :)
It was one of the first pieces that ever got recommended in the discord server. Now with the new improved recommendation channels you can't see it anymore though.

@@znotch87 I know the score accommodates performance without a choir, but I've never heard it that way. Is it done often?
52:56
The 'pancakes' (lol) at 21:08 are crotales
😂
I suggest you react to Bortkiewicz's Piano Concerto No. 3! It's a very interesting and beautiful work!
Won’t stop commenting till Chopin sonata 2 :)
