Appreciate the tip on Milford Munitions brass! Finding good brass in stock has been my biggest challenge so far, other than finding time to shoot and properly document test loads.
My go to big game load has been the 375 H&H, but this 8.6 really has me intrigued. A loght carbine would be amazing on back country hunts in the Northwest Territory, i am just holding off to see how it performs st range.
Bullet spin formula: velocity X 720/Twist Rate = RPM Subsonic are ~250000 rpm’s. I’m just pointing it out bc it sounded like you said 5000rpms. Supers are where the bullets start exceeding their max rpm’s and fly apart bc you’re looking at 500000 rpm’s in a 2000fps bullet.
Those cast bullets are unlubed so they will need lube or you will need to do that or have lead all down the barrel. Also you need to know the hardness on them, too soft is just as bad as too hard. 26 to 28bn is what I have found to work in my 8.6blk bolt action. I have been casting since my dad taught me in the 70s. It is more art than science most days.
@@jacktheaviator4938@jacktheaviator4938 I have been shooting plenty of powder coated lead hard cast out of mine at subsonic speeds with no issues. I can't say why they have said it can't be done, I just know it works fine for me and my firearm.
Ohh good question. You are the only one who has asked. The company is only releasing them to mfg and not to reloaders so far. But halwork has them loaded online. Eaglerun23 is a discount code too!
well, there is more to come, and we are waiting on a few tests. So far I have used aa1680 as recommended and reloader 10x and h110. I am also not really an in a position to recommend powder or charges. sort of not ideal until I have really tested.
Any updates on powder for AA 1680? I have a sierra 250gr match king and im looking for a range to start before i test. Any help would be awesome, theres not many of us on the 8.6 quest.

Yes the Milford stuff is good to go. I am glad I know how to make it. But I am not making any more!

Ya supers on a 16” barrel are just absolutely zipping around.
Just found your channel. Thanks for the attention to detail on this cartridge. Have you considered the 282gr Hammer SH for subsonic loads?
I have only used the hammers for supers.
I would think 282 would be on the light side. Looking at loads may be tough.

Holy cow. Ya that’s a “I don’t know what I don’t know” situation for me!
@@EagleRun23I will try to email you this weekend.
I was told that cast lead won't work with the twist rate, it distorts too badly. That was coming from the guy who invented the cartridge.

Nice, deep rabit hole I've followed you into. 😅
Welcome to my rabbit hole. Ha
Having trouble finding subsonic bullets for reloading. Not wanting to buy 500
I think you will like these in the 205ish range hammerbullets.com/product-tag/338/
MidwayUSA still has factory 2nd 285 gr ELD-M’s in stock, if you’re looking for target loads. I’ve had decent luck w/ them.
Got some!
Beat me to the punch 🥊
