The thing I love most about pikmin is that it is built to be played at least twice, by design. The first time to laid-back explore and figure out where everything is and what all the unknown enemies do, and the second time to beat the game as efficiently as you can once you have all the info.
Only twice? 😂 though, totally understand. I love doing runs with various stipulations in places to make each run unique and (typically) more challenging.
The first game is the epitome of this design philosophy. I recall only getting 24-25 ship parts in 30 days… only to get all 30 parts in 19 days on play #2.

I've never played a Pikmin game, they actually never looked interesting to me, but when I saw Pikmin 4 preview, I was interested and all I have to say is... FUN 😍 This game is so cute and fun to play and kinda relaxing to me. I'm happy I gave Pikmin 4 a try :)
Pikmin is one of those series’ that no matter how badly it sells, Shigure Miyamoto will always call for another one to be made, and make sure it’s higher quality than the last, and I mean, you can’t blame the guy, he did literally stake his entire career on making sure the first one would release on time, even so far as calling it “the next mario,” which while that hasn’t happened… Yet, is still high praise from Mr. Nintendo himself.
Well I think he's really happy as this game is selling big this time so he was proven right that it is a game people can love as much as him and Arlo it just took time.
The multiplayer in this game is basically the 2-player mode from Mario Galaxy. In that game, you could shoot star bits to stun enemies to help out the first player. I feel like you make more of an impact in this game’s 2-player mode, because you can actually defeat enemies, help break down barriers, and hurry along Pikmin carrying items back to base. I would still prefer having an actual second player character, but I’ll take this for what it is.
@@beanieweenie1349 If the second player controlled Oatchi it would break the game considering the fact that you need to be able to use Oatchi’s jump for half the game play. Having both players constantly combine and recombine just for a small little cliff is annoying. Plus, Oatchi has pretty much every ability, so player one just walking and chucking stuff while player 2 moves at quick speeds, can jump, and has a bunch of other cool moves would create a severe power imbalance.
My brother and I are playing it and it's broken either way. You can break fences with it so you can get to areas sooner. You can also shoot treasures in quicker so you can get alot more done in a day.
If you completed the demo you also got 5 free bomb rocks in the full version which is great for tearing down concrete walls early game or taking out large creatures.
I play this with my 5 year old and we love it! The days help with parental moderation for my child. "Ok we are going to have to turn off the game when this day ends, ok?"
I’ve only played the demo for Pikmin 3. And I surprisingly had fun, so I made a promise.. if Pikmin ever makes Pikmin 4. I would buy it. Gotta say, I’m having a lot fun with this game. As a newcomer pikmin fan, this was worth buying. Really hope there will be DLCs
I really enjoyed Pikmin 3 (also first one i played) and I immediately got Pikmin 4 ! I enjoy it a lot I like exploring and just collecting things and I like to strategize having the Pikmin do multiple things at once. I personally do enjoy more cozy/simply games. And I like in Pikmin that you can take your own pace with doing things. I also feel bad whenever I lose a Pikmin even tho I have a lot haha
I would suggest Pikmin 2 then. Since you've played 3 and 4. Pikmin 2 has a cozy vibe to it and no time limits so you can just explore and collect things. The strategizing isn't as prevalent in Pikmin 2 overworld as it is in other games though. However, the underground in 2 provides a lot of room for strategy. From how many Pikmin of a type to take down, what types, when to have a Pikmin change it's type, etc. Time stops in the caves, but it's still a challenge because you're limited to the Pikmin that you take in. The upside of this is that there are frequent escape geysers so if you get low on Pikmin, you almost never have to continue deeper. Pikmin 1 is also very fun, and very short. You have to get all 30 ship parts in 30 days, there is no treasure, it's a survival game. This sounds daunting but it's really not. There's more than enough days to get all parts first playthrough. Even if you don't, just restart a new game, it's only like 8 hours a playthrough anyway. But now you know where to go and what to do and can better strategize how to efficiently use your time
The coop modes in nintendo games have always been designed with different skill levels in mind. A parent and child or older and younger sibling can play together without requiring the less experienced player to know what is going on. They are just there, and get to feel like they helped the other player and get to experience the fun too.
Have you ever put toast into a toaster in the morning and tried to get all ur morning chores done before the toast is done? Ur zooming all over the place and when you get everything done and get back to the table before the little “ping!” and that wave of satisfaction hits you. That’s Pikmin
Pikmin has always had a special place in my heart, so my thirst has finally been quenched with the release of 4. It's been just great seeing what everyone has to say about this series and watching newcomers experience the joy of commanding a squad of Pikmin and the horror of losing them.
Pikmin's been one of my favorite series for as long as I can remember. It definitely has a small but mighty fanbase who've been waiting a long time for this game. We've been begging for Pikmin 4 for years but not as loudly as the Metroid people so maybe that's why a lot of people never noticed? I'm super glad it's finally out though and glad to see it's gaining new fans.

Been playing Pikmin since I was a tiny child. Skipped out on 2 because I didn't know it existed and my older brother didn't like Pikmin, but I still have our original copy of 1 on the GC, and have played quite a bit of 3 on both the Wii U and Switch. Pikmin 4 is awesome and has reinvigorated my childhood love for the franchise.
I remember seeing ads for Pikmin 3 in 2013 to 2015 when I was 6 to 8 and I knew I had to have. I got a Wii U for Christmas 2014 when I was 7 with 3D World and Nintendo Land and got Captain Toad shortly after, but I knew I had to have Pikmin 3 so I got it probably around the spring/summer of 2015 at the age of 7 or 8 and I LOVED it. By the time I was 10 to 11 and got a Switch I was really hoping for Pikmin 4, fortunately we got Pikmin 4 by the time I had just turned 16 and I loved playing it, a destiny finally fulfilled after all these years.
Played every Pikmin game. Was my childhood favourite and i bought 4 on the first day of release. I do prefer the bosses in 3 but this was an amazing game. Won a game award too!!
The editor in 60 seconds encapsulated it perfectly imo. 2 is my favorite with its difficulty and treasure/cave systems so 4 is a blast to play, but that auto lock on was a baffling oversight that should have been a toggle thing in options. Doesnt ruin the game but it can really screw you over in dandori challenges or when youre trying to hit a guy but the reticle would rather focus on a corpse. And i know hitting zr twice will switch targets, but even that isnt perfect. I think 3 had the best targetting system between the 4 games. Personally, I'd probably say this is my least favorite of the 3 ive played (never played 1 and honestly dont really care to), but its still a damn fun game.
It was manageable most of the game, but a few cases where you want to drag an item, but your pikmin would rather go fight a nearby enemy made me lose too many sage challenges. Advanced players/situations need advanced options

I lost one challenge because I threw 12 pikmin at a 12 weight treasure, but a nearby corpse got 2 of the pikmin's attention so neither of them got back which would have let me won. I was pissed😂. Luckily I've gotten fast enough to get everything gold outside of the sage trials which Im not doing because my sanity isnt worth that, and the last dandori battle against louie. Though speaking of dandori battles, hate how they split my screen in half because it makes it hard to see stuff and where he is. I get they want me to watch what he's doing too, but i don't need a split screen for that I can just monitor him😂. Another toggle thing there would be good for just "want split screen or full screen".
You don't care to play Pikmin 1? That is the greatest blasphemy. 2 is so much better, but nothing will give you the feeling and vibes that 1 did. Every Pikmin is very much its own game, but 1 stands out. It's not about treasure, and there is a strict 30 day time limit. This can put people off, but it's not as much of a challenge as you would think it is.
@@youtubesucks1821 with how quick I can beat 2 and 3 I'm sure I could beat 1 pretty quick, I just don't feel like dropping $30 on it rn tbh. 2 I definitely wanted to try because I liked the idea of the caves, and 3 just came out first on switch. I just played the demo. When it got to sunset I saw I had one pikmin all the way across the map waiting for me. I decided to leave him cause I thought it wouldn’t matter too much. NO THOUGH, the game shows me a cutscene as my space ship flys away of the one pikmin I left behind being CHASED AND EATEN. The amount of guilt I felt after seeing that was unlike any other guilt I’ve had from a videogame.
I've always had a very passing interest in pikmin. Played a little of 3 on Wii U but never got big into it. But man, i'm loving 4. I'm like 14 hours in and having a blast.

When I got my switch on release day I gave my Wii U to my bestie. The only game I missed was Pikmin 3. The deluxe version gave me hope that Pikmin 4 was still coming. I put over 600 hours into deluxe and now I’m over 100 hours playing Pikmin 4. I’m so happy about the return of this series after so long and the response it has gotten.

He gave a review on a game that he decided to skip the story on. He sometimes does the same thing in TOTK and makes the game so much harder than it needs to be for someone of his skill. Nothing is more hilarious than hearing someone say, "Easy game, baby game," and then get bodied.
I really did like Pikmin 3, but felt like it was a little short. This game makes up for that, and Oatchi totally makes the game for me. And the Dandori battles are so fun! I do agree that the night battles are a little mid, but now I kind of hope if there is a Pikmin 5 they will expand on that aspect and make something really fun with it. I haven’t had the opportunity to play anything co-op but this is a fine single player game without that.

While I don't know if I can call this Pikmin title my favorite one out of the bunch it easily COULD be if they patched a few things: Have an option to turn off auto lock on so its more like the pikmin 1-3 cursor, give the game an actual co-op mode like pikmin 3 deluxe, and a harder difficulty setting for the veterans. They improved this game so much from the previous ones, but the small things they did that hindered my experience where basically all the things I enjoyed about the past titles.
I was kinda unsure to pick pikmin up or not, but after your review, I will check the demo and maybe buy it at a discount. This game seems like a chill time killer for a long road trip or a plane flight

I can't believe I didn't jump into Pikmin until this one started getting marketed. I played 1 and 2 in the month leading up to Pikmin 4 release and I'm astounded at how right up my alley these games are and that I never gave them a shot despite playing almost every other Nintendo franchise religiously since the N64.
Something that looks promising to me is that it looks like you only really control 1 character at a time? I loved Pikmin 1, it was so simple, you played as one guy. Pikmin 2 was a little bit more complex, you have 2 guys now, whatever. Pikmin 3 was too much for me. The stress of needing to be productive using 3 controllable captains at once was too much for me. Nothing beat the calming simplicity of Pikmin 1, with Olimar all by his lonesome.
@@birdbig6852 I never really thought about it that way, but you're right. The 2 first games were way more fast paced. There wasn't as many puzzles or planning, it was just go go go.
The best part of Pikmin 4 is Olimar's tale and the challenge that offers King's cave and all platinum sage leaf. If it wasn't for Olimar's tale, I would find hard to choose between 1 and 4.

I have pikmin 4 and it’s really good. And the only reason why they remade the games from the Wii U is because no one bought the Wii U. The next gen console will have the same carts so this is why it will still use the last gen carts. I know because I really do know.

Saying its a game nobody asked for is straight up false. There has been a big pikmin fan base thats been waiting for this game for years.
People have been asking for this game for 10 year's, are you living under a rock?
The editor in 60 seconds encapsulated it perfectly imo. 2 is my favorite with its difficulty and treasure/cave systems so 4 is a blast to play, but that auto lock on was a baffling oversight that should have been a toggle thing in options. Doesnt ruin the game but it can really screw you over in dandori challenges or when youre trying to hit a guy but the reticle would rather focus on a corpse.
And i know hitting zr twice will switch targets, but even that isnt perfect. I think 3 had the best targetting system between the 4 games. Personally, I'd probably say this is my least favorite of the 3 ive played (never played 1 and honestly dont really care to), but its still a damn fun game.
It was manageable most of the game, but a few cases where you want to drag an item, but your pikmin would rather go fight a nearby enemy made me lose too many sage challenges. Advanced players/situations need advanced options

I lost one challenge because I threw 12 pikmin at a 12 weight treasure, but a nearby corpse got 2 of the pikmin's attention so neither of them got back which would have let me won. I was pissed😂. Luckily I've gotten fast enough to get everything gold outside of the sage trials which Im not doing because my sanity isnt worth that, and the last dandori battle against louie.
Though speaking of dandori battles, hate how they split my screen in half because it makes it hard to see stuff and where he is. I get they want me to watch what he's doing too, but i don't need a split screen for that I can just monitor him😂. Another toggle thing there would be good for just "want split screen or full screen".
You don't care to play Pikmin 1? That is the greatest blasphemy.
2 is so much better, but nothing will give you the feeling and vibes that 1 did. Every Pikmin is very much its own game, but 1 stands out. It's not about treasure, and there is a strict 30 day time limit. This can put people off, but it's not as much of a challenge as you would think it is.
@@youtubesucks1821 with how quick I can beat 2 and 3 I'm sure I could beat 1 pretty quick, I just don't feel like dropping $30 on it rn tbh. 2 I definitely wanted to try because I liked the idea of the caves, and 3 just came out first on switch. I'll probably play it down the line, just not anytime soon.

And there is no denying 2 is the better game. There is a reason they never brought back the time limit and did bring back collecting treasure.

I just played the demo. When it got to sunset I saw I had one pikmin all the way across the map waiting for me. I decided to leave him cause I thought it wouldn’t matter too much. NO THOUGH, the game shows me a cutscene as my space ship flys away of the one pikmin I left behind being CHASED AND EATEN. The amount of guilt I felt after seeing that was unlike any other guilt I’ve had from a videogame.

I've always had a very passing interest in pikmin. Played a little of 3 on Wii U but never got big into it. But man, i'm loving 4. I'm like 14 hours in and having a blast.
Got to love the clickbait, rage bait title despite the video containing mostly positive things... Also the title is just false. Everyone in the pikmin fandom wanted this.
When I got my switch on release day I gave my Wii U to my bestie. The only game I missed was Pikmin 3. The deluxe version gave me hope that Pikmin 4 was still coming. I put over 600 hours into deluxe and now I’m over 100 hours playing Pikmin 4. I’m so happy about the return of this series after so long and the response it has gotten.

He gave a review on a game that he decided to skip the story on. He sometimes does the same thing in TOTK and makes the game so much harder than it needs to be for someone of his skill. Nothing is more hilarious than hearing someone say, "Easy game, baby game," and then get bodied.

I really did like Pikmin 3, but felt like it was a little short. This game makes up for that, and Oatchi totally makes the game for me. And the Dandori battles are so fun! I do agree that the night battles are a little mid, but now I kind of hope if there is a Pikmin 5 they will expand on that aspect and make something really fun with it. I haven’t had the opportunity to play anything co-op but this is a fine single player game without that.

While I don't know if I can call this Pikmin title my favorite one out of the bunch it easily COULD be if they patched a few things: Have an option to turn off auto lock on so its more like the pikmin 1-3 cursor, give the game an actual co-op mode like pikmin 3 deluxe, and a harder difficulty setting for the veterans. They improved this game so much from the previous ones, but the small things they did that hindered my experience where basically all the things I enjoyed about the past titles.
I was kinda unsure to pick pikmin up or not, but after your review, I will check the demo and maybe buy it at a discount. This game seems like a chill time killer for a long road trip or a plane flight

It's a Miyamoto game, everyone should check out the demo and see if it's for them. It's my personal all-time favorite, there's nothing else like it.

I can't believe I didn't jump into Pikmin until this one started getting marketed. I played 1 and 2 in the month leading up to Pikmin 4 release and I'm astounded at how right up my alley these games are and that I never gave them a shot despite playing almost every other Nintendo franchise religiously since the N64.
This pikmin is the best of the whole series hands down!!

Something that looks promising to me is that it looks like you only really control 1 character at a time? I loved Pikmin 1, it was so simple, you played as one guy. Pikmin 2 was a little bit more complex, you have 2 guys now, whatever. Pikmin 3 was too much for me. The stress of needing to be productive using 3 controllable captains at once was too much for me.
Nothing beat the calming simplicity of Pikmin 1, with Olimar all by his lonesome.
That was exactly why I didn't like 3, it ruins the exploration and also it slows down the pace of the game.
@@birdbig6852 I never really thought about it that way, but you're right. The 2 first games were way more fast paced. There wasn't as many puzzles or planning, it was just go go go.
I mean, 1 also has a lot of puzzles. Every enemy in 1 is a puzzle, practically speaking.
Oatchi is basically the second captain who also acts like a super pikmin and does tasks for you automatically
The best part of Pikmin 4 is Olimar's tale and the challenge that offers King's cave and all platinum sage leaf.
If it wasn't for Olimar's tale, I would find hard to choose between 1 and 4.

I have pikmin 4 and it’s really good. And the only reason why they remade the games from the Wii U is because no one bought the Wii U. The next gen console will have the same carts so this is why it will still use the last gen carts. I know because I really do know.
