I have always back them off half turn,,,,quarter turn can,,,sometimes ,,,not always cause brakes to drag to much and get hot,,,I stick with half turn off of bottom
It is important to release the brakes before adjusting and you showed just that. This means the air must be at full pressure and the parking brake in the cab released. Now brakes can be adjusted. If you do not release the brakes with the air system, the parking brakes will be under spring tension and there is now way to accurately adjust them. GOOD JOB!
I was just stuck on the side of the road cause my brand new trailer the brakes somehow got out of adjustment and smoked up pretty back but the first part of this video helped me out so thank you🙏🏼💯
You have to check if they even grease the sluck adjusters? Maybe forgot and S-cam got stuck!!! It happen to me on a bobtail after new brakes was installed with new Spider, S-cam and etc. But I’m happy that this video helps to so many people.
Discussion: While I understand that certain circumstances call for an additional quarter turn because of brake drag, my general rule for adjustments is, starting at the rear axle on the trailer: quarter turn on trailer, quarter turn on drives, and half turn on steers. The argument being that in an emergency stop, you want to guarantee that your trailer brakes are applying before your steers to avoid fishtailing. Is this an outdated idea?
I would do trailer 1/2, drives 1/2 if your truck but not your trailer lol other wise 1/4 and steer 1/2. Trailer always brakes first by half a second and then truck. It made like that.
So what if you've adjusted them and then you set your trailer brakes and it still moves what's going onadjusted many breaks on mini trailers but I don't know what's wrong
Wow. This is not good. I think you doing something not right.... unless your brakes are cooked. That happens from overheating. Brakes are glazed and don’t work anymore for a stopping, they just sliding. Stop by local place who work with Semi Trucks. They can tell you for sure what’s going on.
They measure how the rod on a brake chamber comes out(2”), gap between brake shoes and drums and if drum/brakes shoes have a right thickness or no cracks.
Because when you’re doing the adjustment your breaks are released so when you tighten them all the way down if you just left it you wouldn’t be able to move you back it off so you can drive then when you set your breaks after the adjustment they will properly set if that makes sense
Tank you for the video.
Very well explained and quick easy. God bless you.
Glad it was helpful!

It works too… need at list a 1/4turn.

Thx. Trying to help every one, rather then spend long waiting time and thousands at the TA/Petro or a similar places.
Tractor brake must be set. And trailer brake released

Thanks ! I really appreciate your video.. I had no clue on how to do this .. ✌️✌️✌️✌️
thank you very much for sharing I really need it to know how to do this. God bless you
Glad it was helpful!
on drive axels what do you mean by a quarter ? 15 min on 60 min clock ?
Exactly those measures that you use are not clear.
Quarter is 1/4 turn or 15min turn. 60min is 360’ turn
I try adjust brake i turn to tie but really hard to release it back what cause
You have to use a screw driver and wrench at same time.
Awesome video fellow trucker, thank you!! 👍
Thanks 👍
It's just a 1/2 a turn back off when adjusting brakes
Every one have their opinion. If works for you, good.
I can't climb under the trailer like that, do I need to quit driving
Pay extra at Loves for brake adjust
11;45 this keeps your front brake applying after the rear brake apply that is correct good job
Thx
Thank you for taking the time to do this, and videotaping it.
Any time!
Is this a good general adjustment for every truck? I got a 2011 Mack pinnacle cxu612 with double bottom dumps
Should be yes....
D- KUSTOMS GARAGE thank u
Perfect camera position and good explanation love it Good job 👍
So what if you've adjusted them and then you set your trailer brakes and it still moves what's going onadjusted many breaks on mini trailers but I don't know what's wrong
All of your brakes does move or just one after adjusting?
@@DKUSTOMSGARAGE all the tires are still rolling

Love to see your video
Explained in a very easy way
Thank you
Thanks for sharing this, sir!
My pleasure!
Nice video,easy to learn.
Glad you think so!
WHERE DID YOU GET THAT 30 MINS IDEA?
CAN YOU COME UP WITH BETTER MEASUREMENT NUMBERS?
Army… time clock or angles. Use 1hr idea or 360’
@@DKUSTOMSGARAGE What I meant was is it how fmcsa or scale house @$$holes measure?
They measure how the rod on a brake chamber comes out(2”), gap between brake shoes and drums and if drum/brakes shoes have a right thickness or no cracks.
Thanks bro you’r video helped me a lot 💪💪
The Steering box have a leak brother, just for that the DOT can put you out off service
It’s not that bad to put out of service.
@@DKUSTOMSGARAGE any leak is out of service.
Only if drips on the ground
7 drips per min put you out of service
What if they locked up mine just did that and smoking the drives
Same thing you used to tighten them back then off a little
Correct.
Untie it back
Nice shit man ,, you explain everything very well and you have a nice setup 👊🏻👊🏻
Thx
Why the trailer is half turn and tractor only a quarter?
Trailer brakes a little faster then truck. So when you adjust like me, it will brake evenly.
@@DKUSTOMSGARAGE That makes perfect sense, thanks a lot.
You’re welcome!!! Have a good one.
What is the std gap between the drum and the brake shoes?
I don’t measure that gap, never had issues.
Hey buddy,,thanks a lot , very helpful for me too , god bless you
Thank you my friend
Thank you.
Thanks for this video
What do you mean by 30? I thought you meant degrees but then saw you turning them 90 degrees in each 15.
Trailer 60-90, drives 60-15 , steers 60-15
he means like if you imagine the wrench pattern is a clock, you would just turn the wrench "30 minutes" or half a turn i guess
You’re right.
He actually meant 180 degrees
Correct, 180’ is 30min, Or each 15min is 90’
Thank you
Great video, thanks for sharing 👍
Brother, thank you very much.
Why release it back again after tightening it, sorry if it sounds stupidity ,new in trucking business ?
Because when you’re doing the adjustment your breaks are released so when you tighten them all the way down if you just left it you wouldn’t be able to move you back it off so you can drive then when you set your breaks after the adjustment they will properly set if that makes sense
@afruge4535 this is not true…
Tnaks for the video...very heplful👍
Thx for a comment, I hope you find my video easy to use!! With every comment/like my videos going in the top search list ;) hx

Should be full
@@DKUSTOMSGARAGE agreed

Thank you. I hope it helped you.
I hate that style slack adjuster on that trailer , thx for the video 👍🅿️🆙💯
You don’t like self adjusting ones.
@@DKUSTOMSGARAGE i know i don't. i can trust myself to adjust as i should, i can't trust them
For sure.
That's a good explanation. Thanks
Great video!!!
those are autoslack adjusters should not need adjustments or there failing but do need serviced
Even tho they are self adjusting, I still want to make sure that they work properly.
Thank you 🙏🏻
Good job buddy respect ✊
When brakes make contact with drum STOP,the slack adjuster is not to be tighten with all hell!!!
Should be with all hell and then relised to heavenly perfect specs ;)
