Hi Karl, you have a great offsider, Elio, he has lots of complementary talents and you guys make a great fabrication team. Your enthusiasm is contagious and injects a lot of positives into viewers lives, you do more than metal fabrication without trying.
Elio’s battery hold down is Sick! Love that idea I’ll definitely be trying that in the future. This magnets are great 😂 I have the same ones holding posters on a chemicals cabinet haha
It’s not just the lowness, but also the front and rear overhang, and also the mid point of the front to rear axles of a long car. Respect you enormously 🇦🇺🦘
For building flat deck semi-trailers, manufacturers use 4" Super Lite I-beam steel. Plenty strong, less weight, can be painted so it doesn't rust from the inside out.
Karl, I gotta thank you for your great instructional content. This past weekend at work I was able to make a very nice set of 50" diameter backdraft damper blades for an industrial roof fan out of 14ga aluminum because of the video you made about hand hammer forming a flanged edge on a wood buck. They were basically 2 half circles of aluminum, 50" in diameter, with a ⅝" flange all the way around it. They open up when the fan is on to let air out of the building, and they just gravity close when the fan is off to keep the rain out. The old ones had become too damaged and fell off, and you can't just buy them without buying the entire fan. They turned out excellent!
@MakeItKustom I love watching and learning! I don't miss a single thing you put out. Both on the main channel and on unleashed. You are great at describing not just the how, but the why. Which is important for me because I need to know why you are doing a thing in a particular way, not just how to do it! I do a LOT of heavy metalwork in my days, but shaping thin guage sheet metal has always been a voodoo mystery to me. I've learned so much watching your content, and I love how upbeat and positive you are. Keep up the great work my friend.
28:38 : That seems to be a real common thing with a *lot* of hotrodders and fabricators! In some regards it's not necessarily a bad thing, because it gives you more margin in case your design isn't perfect or there's something that got overlooked, or you end up deciding you're gonna load a bulldozer onto the deck or something! 😆But man, that extra weight (and cost!) adds up fast! It's amazing how much strength you can keep, using significantly less metal, with clever design and knowing how strong is strong *enough* rather than building something to be bombproof when it doesn't need to be! Sometimes, ya gotta think like an engineer: "how can I do more, with less?" The math's a little scary sometimes, but it really can pay off. Or find someone who's done the math already, and copy their answers! It's not cheating, it's just being efficient! 😁
Another great video. Really appreciate the step by step approach and sharing the process (and the “test pieces”). And Elio kicked some serious A$$ while you were away. You both have tremendous talent, and make an amazing team. Sky’s the limit.
Ha ha rarely happens where we have to cut things twice but if a person values their time then Steel is cheaper than time so I’ll spend that Steel to move forward always
Nice to see you using fusion 360! I think it’s a great program. Pretty user friendly, only initially intimidating because of how capable it is. Great stuff man!
Thank you so much for this video! I am literally just starting to design a dual-deck car hauler for a client and this is giving me a lot of great info!
What the! So much thoughtzies and thinkzen! Watching that CAD work was humbling! Awesome! Love Elio's deadpan look as you throw out the words/ideas! He's already there and on it (sympatico brother)! Cant wait to see what's next! Go Karl and Elio, keep moving forward!
Thanks Billy ! And I’m pretty sure you are one of the first people to consistently comment on the channel. I appreciate your support all these years man! I’ll meet you on your home turf one day I’m sure.
Maybe build the deck to have a pivot at the end of the frame rails and have the entire deck tilt. Our heavy equipment trailers have that. Very cool build, I have an f350 frame and drivetrain, and an eary Ford f600 of 800 would be a cool car hauler set-up. As soon as the doctor clears me after chemotherapy, I'll be hitting the builds again.
@MakeItKustom currently got the bug. Transforming a Chevy aveo into a tiny ute. Thing is gonna be a blast. Everyone that drives by is getting a neck workout. Lol
Karl this is a task. And the ramp is going to be solid. Watched your videos from Australia. Glad you’re back home safely. Brent has been down in Texas. And think he’s hitting another show. Then hook up with you I’m guessing. Thanks for sharing! 💯👊👍
Good on Elio. Maybe check out old race car carriers from the fifties and sixties. In those days of small budgets they run what they brung. How about some side storage as well for straps, winch controls, etc? As usual great soundtrack.
Karl this is great stuff. I learn just by observing your process with Eleo. I was thinking how the truck will be on the road soon and how you guys will be needing to disassemble and get it all finished, which itself would be a huge project. Thanks again for Make It Kustom on-line school! Lol, keep on trucking!
Yeah, that’s the plan man! Right now, as it sits. It does move under its own power and is fully painted chassis and back together. There are some interesting upgrades that it needs to be roadworthy though.
You bet , you know right away it is going to be good. Which is why it is disappointing so few of the viewers are Subscribed. Out of all creators on TH-cam Karl should be smashing it with numbers.
Are you using grade 8 bolts since it is hard to tell on the video? Could you print out your drawing on paper 1:1? It might help you with your layout before you make mistakes on the steel, which can get costly.
Really enjoyed seeing the thought process behind the geometry etc behind it all. Almost seems like you know what you're doing 😉 jkd. Love your work mate 👌
DISSAPOINTED !, No battery sparks when mocking up the ramps? :-) jk = Thank you for stepping us through your thought process, looking forward to the next update.
Very very well done Elio! Wow u did a great job on the Bat box, wire loom and plumbing clips. Karl you're spoiled having quality help like that with true anal tendencies to do the dirty finish work! Nice work gentleman!!!
Love the channel! Please consider using shaped sheet metal sides for the ramp, instead of just flat. Something that compliments the style in the cab. Just a thought. Thank you for the shared knowledge and keep it up.
Yeah, this is a tough one for me because I know how much shipping it would be lol I’m trying not to do something boring on the sides, but I think the Panel’s will be kind of flat
Tis what I do now I use freecad ( parametric) and for smaller parts I 3d print It saves SO much time ! I wish I had these drawing packages 30 years ago ! ( ps Im so glad ya missed those 4th holes I always screw that up ! even if I measure 200 time and cut once ! so to see someone else do it ! hhehehehe! btw nice bit of work there by Ellio " !
Im glad your painting the frame ,tell Brent to bring his lazer gun! lol. Are you going to be putting skirts on the deck and install storage boxes? Be nice if you could make the skirts and storage boxes from stainless.I love this setup Karl! So this is a 6 liter engine with a 4L60E 4 speed?
First! Looking forward to seeing the truck on the road. Hope to see you when you hit Manitoba! Wow! Elio was busy while you were away. Hes very creative! Speaking of deadlines, im trying to get my Studebaker done fro a road trip to Drumheller for the car show in 3 weeks.
Man it would be so cool to hang out in this shop for a month ! I finally bit the dust and bought a Langmuir Pro ! Doing all the great mods people are so kind to share on the Tube now. I am a little scared of the computer part of this but fingers crossed 🤞
Over the rear wheel you want a 2x2 either side of the tyre, not one in the middle of the tyre. You will get 2in more clearance between tyre and deck. 100 litres! Love that Metric!
One feature you might think about - I had a colleague who made a very neat race car transporter. He had hydraulic jacks built in so he would put the chains down and then jack up the vehicle so the wheels were just off the deck. This meant that the vehicle being transported suspension was not part of the equation and stopped the mass from doing weird oscillations that sometimes happens on a bumpy road. Not necessary but definitely nice.
I love the plain language and how I can just listen and understand what Carl is doing. KISS method. Keep it simple -stupid- My first day of intelligence training I learned the KISS method yet in the maintenance world it was "Don't fix it if it ain't broken". I also like your shop, you keep things clean and ready to go. Big fan =]
Thanks a lot man I appreciate that! I’ve learned over the years after growing up with the messiest room you’ve ever seen that I can’t find anything unless I clean my shop lol. I have a hard time getting distracted by things so if there’s nothing around to get distracted by I might actually get something done lol.
Honestly, that’s what I wanted from the start. Just didn’t have the funds. My friend gave me this engine. Brent helped a ton and it’s his forte. I don’t think this truck could have been built for this money or in this time frame had a chose a different set up. On that note, I do plan on changing it to a 5.9 Cummins with a couple turbos on it one day
be great to inlay your logo in the chequer bed with some smooth steel. easy with the cnc plasma cutter and would look killer.. Good to meet you too at Amadale autos.. Vern, with the lincoln lol
Are you thinking about using rams to lift the cab? I know the truck is at the moment 1st in line, but what has happened with regards to Christina's car?
You guys are the best to watch. It's cool that you kept the "oops" in your video to keep it real.
Gotta keep it real! Thanks for watching

Elio knocked it out of the ballpark with the work he did. Nice overall design you worked up, looks great!
You and Brent -Half Ass Kustoms have the best music during time lapses
Right 👍
It’s not just the lowness, but also the front and rear overhang, and also the mid point of the front to rear axles of a long car.
Respect you enormously 🇦🇺🦘
Agreed. That combo of a cab-over with such a long front overhang, so low and exacerbated by the stubby rear is a killer look!
Wow cool truck
Elio kicks @$$, what a clean and organized setup now. We do things nice because we do things twice. Great stuff Karl.

I need a good run down video on the tab and slot on fashion 360 lol (so I can make some cooler stuff with my toys lol)
Another great video. Really appreciate the step by step approach and sharing the process (and the “test pieces”). And Elio kicked some serious A$$ while you were away. You both have tremendous talent, and make an amazing team. Sky’s the limit.

Great video. Every old car guy/gal should have a Plasma machine.
awesome vid! love watching the progress!!!
As usual, informative and inspiring. I learn so much. Thank you.
Another great video Karl and Elio, thanx for taking the time to make them. Great sound track, perhaps you could include it in the description?

As usual great job! I’m impressed every time I watch you guys work. Thanks for continuing to educate and help all of us.
Nice!!!! It is coming together nicely!!!
Nice job Elio. Love the attention to detail.
Thanks from Ashern MB! I love this build ! - you make my day bro
You guys are a dream team for this build. Going to be awesome. Billy J..... Queensland, Australia.

Awesome. As always, Top Notch work.
_BIG mother-truckin TRUCK stuff!_
Brave moves ~ I would have had to mock it all up with cheap wood first before committing to the final steel etc.
It is great that you show your mistakes too. Iteration is required to get a good result.
Awesome work buddy love it
I’ve been following this from the beginning… but man, I’m fully invested in seeing this get built! Awesome Project!
I'm so stoked about the ramp truck! Love seeing it go from a cab sitting outside the old shop to this.
Yeah man, me too. I can’t wait to show it to the guy who stored it for all those years.
@MakeItKustom currently got the bug. Transforming a Chevy aveo into a tiny ute. Thing is gonna be a blast. Everyone that drives by is getting a neck workout. Lol

Yeah man exactly! Can’t wait to hear about his trip
Good on Elio. Maybe check out old race car carriers from the fifties and sixties. In those days of small budgets they run what they brung. How about some side storage as well for straps, winch controls, etc? As usual great soundtrack.
Next Level!!
Thanks for sharing 😀👍
Nice job Karl and Elio, you guys are knocking it out.
What is the vehicle weight when finished?
Have you have done anything to the engine to make more torque?
All of it!
It’s definitely going to get a cam upgrade for more low end torque
Not sure on the weight but I’m guessing about 10,000 pounds
I'm glad to see you back on the truck.
Rock on Carl.
It will be interesting to see how the ramp bed will be made. It's coming along good.
Elio's been a busy boy. Neat work, too. [new Aussie souvenir Tattoo, Karl,?]
I went to Thailand for a few days after Australia and yes, got the tattoo there
Good work, is Rework, lol!
Good day in your shop once again!
Awesò.e job guys this is going to be a great truck.cant wait till the next video. Stay safe guys
Coming along well Karl and Elio Round too should be good
Nice project
Awesome brother!!
If they would move Canada to a place that was >70F, I'd work for you for FREE!!!! Killer stuff. Keep being you!!! ...and Elio is a badass!!!
All that fancy metal work. And using vice grips on his press. Looks like something I'm capable of. Lol... good job guys, awesome work..
Ha, ha, ha ha I may not be the most refined imagineer

@@MakeItKustom nice!
Your original vision is becoming the real thing. What a cool truck she will be.
Did you make or buy the York compressor bracket? I’d like to add one to a few of my vehicles and could use some bracket inspiration.
It is a bought bracket, but it has been modified
Anyone else just autoclick the like button, then watch the video? Me too!
You bet , you know right away it is going to be good. Which is why it is disappointing so few of the viewers are Subscribed. Out of all creators on TH-cam Karl should be smashing it with numbers.
Absolutely- you know you are going to like it, why mess around?

Yep
Yep!
Really enjoyed seeing the thought process behind the geometry etc behind it all. Almost seems like you know what you're doing 😉 jkd. Love your work mate 👌
Ha, ha ha it’s all smoke and mirrors.
The design for the deck sounds really, really stout. Look forward to seeing this come together. Kudos to Elio for sure. Be safe and stay well.
Thanks! I appreciate it. Weird but when I first saw the picture I thought it was Bruce Willis lol if you squint and look at your profile picture.
@@MakeItKustom Have never been told that before. Thanks though.

Nice work Elio, battery box is killer 😎
This is looking do good!!
Siiiick. I love new ramp truck content.
I like your magnet paper holders. I'm a Kaleco fan but in this case a notebook paper being useful is amazing.
Looks great

Yes, the deck will be skirted and have tons of custom storage utilizing as much space as possible
Love it!
Good stuff man you guys are killing it u definitely deserve more attention keep up the good work guys
Doing it that way will give you plenty of room for large cargo boxes. Cool 😎
Yep, I plan on having massive storage in this thing

New ink looks good too man.
Thanks Brent! Got it in Thailand. Was there for a week just switching off after a very busy couple months.
My favorite project on the internet right now
These guys are super awesome!
It goes with the old saying, we do it right because we do it twice 😊
Wow that’s a lot of metal 👍👍
Keep that blues coming Karl, it’s my other passion when not fabricating, playing my guitar!!
Gonna be a sweet hauler.
Looking good Karl! Following along!

I like that you show the mistakes, none of the fake cable tv show “everything is perfect the first time!”
Hey Carl I think you should have put a 5.9 Cummins in it that’s a lot of truck to pull with that LS good luck and have fun.

Will Kristina's Cadillac be able to be loaded, because the overhanging sections from the wheels.
yes, it will definitely be able to be loaded when the suspension is lifted
Are you thinking about using rams to lift the cab? I know the truck is at the moment 1st in line, but what has happened with regards to Christina's car?
Make it Kustom. Says it . Can't build it too strong. Buy once. Cry once. Then enjoy. No 2nd guessing. Peace
I love this build, but I still feel like it should have a duramax as a power plant
cool, thanks..
..Black Art Forge..
frame paint i really like NAPA PCC low cost great results
Love, love, love the ramp truck! But, how about more of the Cadillac.
Don’t worry it’s coming back
