Marcy is definitely one of my favorite characters. I’m glad that even after the show ended, we got to see and learn more about her from her journal. If Amphibia ever gets some form of continuation, I’d like to see more of Marcy. She went through so much, and I think a lot of that has room to focus on. An epilogue series or comics would be great if we got to see her address the stabbing or possession, or even just have a heart to heart talk with Andrias. In her journal, the expansion of their very close bond made the events of the show all the more upsetting and heartbreaking.
It's honestly incredible how she is both the cause as well as the victim of her very action that almost could've lost 2 of her closest friends she cared to try and keep hold on. While she is at fault for what she did to Anne and Sasha, at the same time she help the 2 figure out something they'd be good at in their following career choice in life. Anne didn't know what she wanted to do, but thanks to Amphibia would quickly love her frog family to the point that she would work in the amphibia section of the Aquarium having as much knowledge of taking care and maintaining the many wild life of animals displayed in her section right down to naming one of the frogs after a friend. Sasha went from going full on control mode of wanting things to go in her way, to redeeming herself and using her leadership not for control but as a strength to push forth those she care and from her previous past decide to study up on psychology and according to her own words is helping kids with their emotional baggage.
It would have been epic if, like Mr Incredible, Marcy had discovered the king's true plan by entering a hidden computer and entering a password that she found near a skeleton that she found in the depths of the castle. After entering the password, Marcy sees a huge list of planets that were planned to be invaded, including Earth, as well as information about her and her friends. (Then Marcy leaves there but an alarm sounds causing the security system to activate and they trap her)
This is a great video of the history of Marcy Regina Wu. It's such a shame it didn't include the additional information on Marcy from her journal, including her adventures in Amphibia as part of the Newtopian night guard before she met up with Anne.
The only time I was super annoyed with Marcy is when I saw her theme takeover. She landed in a place of comfort and safety. Meanwhile Anne landed in a rural area where deadly animals lived and Sasha was taken prisoner. I know it’s meant to show that she really didn’t have a full concept to how rough the new world was for her friends but still. Other than that I can totally understand why she did what she did. It wasn’t right at all, but she’s a scared kid. We all do stupid things when fear and anxiety control us.
Confession: It took me a Long time to love Marcy. I never disliked her, but I could just never get engaged in her character, at least until true colors. I kept beating myself up because Marcy felt like the character I should love, a geeky, unabashedly enthusiastic nerd who struggles with social cues and making new friends (I am also autistic like Marcy). Part of me once thought that Marcy didn’t seem like good rep. actually. She felt more like someone’s idea of someone on the spectrum: A savant who is talented in everything, to the point that she feels inhumane. I actually think I was envious of Marcy, and she made me feel inadequate. One of my favorite episodes of Amphibia is Scavenger Hunt because I resonated with Anne’s feeling of inadequacy, and the feeling that I’m just dumb compared to others.
She's the catalyst for 2020AD Frog-vasion event which should show her escape to Amphibia to not deal with her parents' moving away from LA has HUGE consequences with loads of deaths, wounded & trillions of dollars worth property damage...
I would prefer if Marcy never moved to Hopkinton,as the journal mentioned the place she was moving too, because most people like me are happy if she stayed with her friends after all. I probably think it’s best if Marcy and her parents moved to another part of Los Angeles instead, like say…that small apartment building with only two apartment units located next door to Anne’s house would be much better for the Wu family. They can have the middle unit while Sasha and one of her divorced parents can have the one above Marcy’s new home. Marcy will no longer be upset or afraid of separating from her best friends anymore because now she and Sasha are living next door to her! It’s a win-win! 🥇
Marcy Wu is always such an adorkable character and even though she's clumsy, she's still very smart and I honestly feel pretty bad for him. She deserves a lot better.☺️💕
We all know if Amphibia wasn't a kids show Marcy would most likely have been labeled insane for what she did and turned into a irredeemable villain. I do love the idea of her character, someone who purposely gets themselves Isekaid to escape there problems. I'm surprised we don't get see more stories like this, most Isekai stories have it where the characters don't try to get sent to another world. PS: Who also hates the Core as a final boss, it's such a cheap way to end a series where instead of killing a character the writers kill an entity nobody has no emotionally attachment.
I think the way the writers wrote Marcy’s decision was smart. Yeah she found the book about the box, so she had some idea it could be legit, but if you were in her place, wouldn’t you be a little dubious. She only tricked Sasha into making Anne steal the box because she was desperate. Once Anne opened it, they were literally stuck in another world. I do wish the show explored more of Marcy’s action instead of sidelining her by possessing her. Speaking of which, I think the core had potential, albeit wasted potential. The Core had a good established parallel with Sasha as a manipulative control freak, the same way Andrias was paralleled with Anne as how being a pushover can become toxic. I think the show did a good job balancing Andrias and the Core as threats.
Can you change the part (for me) about when Marcy returns home after restoring Amphibia, she tells her parents about why she ran away and she didn't want to leave her friends at all, as Anne and Sasha tell them what has been happening to her? Hopefully, Marcy deserves to stay in Los Angeles and NEVER move out-of-state to Hopkinton after everything has gone hard on her. Obviously he parents would hear every word of her story as they say sorry to their beloved only daughter, especially her father. All Marcy really wanted while staying in Amphibia was to be together with her friends and never split up. And her parents know exactly how they can solve Marcy's problem: after treatments and a full recovery at the hospital, her parents sell their old house and move to an apartment building located next door to the Boonchuy house. Anne gets one of her BFFs as her new neighbour whose NOT moving to Massachusetts after all. And Sasha, on the other hand, has told her mom about wanting to living closer to Anne too, and she earns her wish by moving to the same apartment building, by having the top unit above Marcy's new place. Now all three girls can live happily ever after from now on. This is the kind of happy ending after the 10 year epilogue that I wanted.
