Great review Ozzie, good to see us Aussies after 200 or so years have actually succeeded in building a rifle that will fire when it gets hot. The Taipan X looks good, however I feel SCSA need to have another go at designing the rifle, as you said the bolt release position is daft, but also for me the straight pull movement should not move the fore-end. The system needs a redesign, either only have straight pull or be able to change the linkage system so when the straight pull is used the fore end remains locked. Finally, I've owned some 223's and that accuracy is very average.

i like mine, fired about 250 rounds of ADI 55 grain through it so far and it hasn't missed a shot. I don't think that most shooters will need to shoot over 100 rounds an hour in AU though... that would be a serious pest problem lol.
Hey Ozzie, wondering if you could chip in on an issue I've been having with my Taipan X. Noticed that once the rifle is hot after 100 or so rounds, the magazines will stop falling free from the magwell and you have to manually pull them out. My current theory is that once hot, the bolt group is spreading the polymer feed lips when cycling, and on a closed bolt - the heat from the bolt is setting the feed lips in a spread position. I've got in touch with SCSA and they've been very responsive and happy to help with the issue.
With heat comes expansion hence why manufacturers have to allow a tolerance to cater for that, so perhaps the mag well on your rifle is a little tight on tolerance?

Doesn't really matter in australia though.
I just wish it had a right side charging handle as well.
What’s a good red dot for this rifle ?
What do you guys think is the best 22lr rifle?
