It's impossible for any frequency response line to be flat. Manufacturers use very large divisions like 20 dB per vertical division and 3rd octave smoothing. As per bass response, it's physically impossible for drives that small to have good bass. They would have to move too much comparing to a larger driver and require more voltage to be driven.

Between me and my dad (who is the true audiophile of the family) we have 4 KZ products that so far have been the best bang for your buck in our opinion (those products being a Zs10, As10, S1 and S2). Although they aren't without issues mainly the wireless earphones (S1) having interference issues between phone and earphone. Overall, great video and I look forward to see what's next.
Reading some of the comments I assumed this video would omit the fact these are 20 quid but after watching id say the video is very good and helpful. You constantly mention they are 20 quid and mention multiple times that these are excellent quality for the money. Quality video 👍.
I only saw Dankpods starting a few weeks ago when he gave an honest review of Raycons. Love his reviews. And your review of this convinced me to buy them!
I bought a set of these for hiking, since I needed something cheap and with replaceable parts for when they inevitably break themselves in my pack. So far I haven't been steered wrong yet, though they of course aren't going to give the same sound as, like, my $300 over ear headphones. They're perfectly fine for what I use them for, though, which is all I really need.
@@AudioFixation right now I own two sets, because I'm a big nerd. For closed back/ANC I use the Sony WH-1000XM4. for indoor use/open back headphones I use the Grado sr125e set. If you haven't had a chance to try the Grados, I recommend it! They don't break the bank (as much) and they really excel in the mids and highs, which is perfect since I use them at home for phonecalls and podcasts.
I have 3 different types of KZ headphones. For $15 you can get the ZSR which has 2 BA and 1 DD. For $10 more you can get the ZS5 or ZS6. IMO these have been the best non monitor headphones I've ever owned. Monitors and over ear headphones are great for sound quality and specific situations, but not long term comfort. KZ has been a real winner for me. There is also the $10 adapter to use them with bluetooth.
I've got a few KZ earbuds. Started with some weird ones that let you swap the port to the rubber bit at the end of the earbud to get a different sound signature. They were $10 US or something and at that price, blew everything else I had away... and I could change the sound signature which was fun to play with. I eventually ended most recently on the ZAX. I need to dial down some treble on them but the separation and clarity to instrument definition has been fantastic. I would recommend any KZ earbuds for anyone looking to get a cheap upgrade from bundle earbuds... on devices that still offer 3.5mm.
Love the review and you are being honest they have there faults. However if you wanna talk audio you need a good mic. Just a critique. Otherwise good stuff.
Bought them aswell, can't go wrong for 24 Euro's. Was pleasently surprised and are now my go to outdoor erands buds. With a dragon fly Cobalt to fully get them singing
Here's my take. I bought it because of dank pods. It impressed me coming from $5 to $20 normal earpieces. I also had a $90 tws frm x-mini (liberty s) before getting a kz zsn pro x. For $20 (SGD) the zsn pro x is definitely better than what most non-audiophile consumers are used to at that price. It is a good buy imo. Most consumers don't even know about different sound signatures or possibly what kind of sound they even like. This kz iem is a great gateway iem to the chifi or audiophile world. Obviously there are better iems. Duh, the zsn pro x is only $20. As a normie, I recommend these to my friends and family.
i have bought them my self recently and they are high quality in ears for literaly 20 bucks. They look great and sound great. I would recomend them as well to every one who likes in ears and dont want to pay much money.
If a big brand will have made what this company makes i am sure the prices will go really high for the lowest product...just because of the brand name. But the price you pay for the quality of KZ products is amazing. I bought the Edx Pro with less than £10 and they sound amazing...clear and loud ( something that i always look for). For 112db sensitivity you pay a lot of money on known brands. This guys make an amazing job and also you can make their earphones wireless because they are modular. The quality and concept is great for the price. If you know where to look, you will get really good prices for all the products they have. They are the proof that quality and innovation don't come with a big price. "China made" is no longer similar with low quality products from a while now but many people still don't believe that. They are not perfect but nobody is and i am really happy i discovered the KZ products.
Awesome review! I loved the in-depth description of each segment of the frequency range since it really emphasizes what you're looking for rather than just saying it's "good" or "bad", and honestly I kind of love the frankness and denseness of information that you give with your absolutely peaceful demeanor.
I picked up a pair of these to wear while doing yardwork, even though I already had a pair for that. I figured, for $20 for a possible upgrade, it would be worth it. At least with my ears, these were streets ahead of my iSport from Monster Audio that I picked up for $30 in the Walmart clearance aisle. I kinda miss the iPod controls on the cable, but the sound more than makes up for that. Thanks!
wow!, a 2 years old review! I just got this IEM with a promo including some Memory Foam eartips and the 8cores Glod/silver cable and it was a blast for the price as much as it sound!, i just see your graph about the Eq this IEM have, and i am impressed how low the Bass is, compared with the middle range, because this things are a rocket in their bass frequencies and really good for the middle and high. I just like a lot this sound, but for any reason, my EDX (2usd in Promo) and my Castor Harman (12 USDt in promo) have a very especial sound each, so i enjoy them all!!, now i am awaiting for the Castro bass, which i have already tested and in my opinion it's superior to this ZSN Pro x, and i think that adding a KZ AZ9 TWS earhooks or the TRN BT20XS, i'll be happy for a good time, until KZ brings another affordable but yet with a great sound ones. Thanks!
I bought a pair of these after my ATH M50X's hinge broke and I needed something to use on my phone and computer while I save up for new headphones. I took DankPods on his word and bought these. I can say that he did not lie, I really like them and enjoy listening to both music and playing video games through them. I plan on buying a pair of Meze Classic's and pair of Grado's (either 60's or 80's), all due to his recommendations - once I save up of course.
These are superb, buy them! If you wear them in they improve in quality. I have pairs costing £600 but these are the ones I prefer. And they are very loud.
I can't comment about the KZ series but I bought another headphone that Dankpod praised the Samson SR850. I switched from a fairly pricy gaming headset to the Samsons and I can't say anything bad about it. I love the Samsons the cable is really nice and it sounds really good. I will be honest, on the first week using it I got scared a couple of times because sometimes the sounds were so natural that I though they come from outside and not from the headphones.
Having bought some ZS10 Pro's last month after wanting something on the go. I happen to watch Dankpods for a while now.. and thought why not.. They are actually really nice and comfy, even with some EQ adjustments and a normal volume they are my current favorites for being fairly cheap.
@carfreakify I have been tainted by wearing midrange over-ear studio headphones for working and gaming.. Unless you pay a lot for high end ones.. most in-ears are just bad in several ways. But I’ve been put back on in-ears because of these. I actually use them all the time now even around the house. I am fine with the tips that they come with. They aren’t the cheap or stinky kind I have had with main brand ones.
I have them. They're very trebly when I first listened to them. Compared to the cheap ones i've used since, everything I hear in these sound so layered like, you can listen to almost any song and pick out the drums, the vocals, bass, lead guitar, and backing tracks. They sound so whole and layered
Just got mine today and wow was their a difference to my Apple Beats Fit Pro's. Really loving these KZ's for a someone who just starting. Definitely recommend these for beginners.
I got myself edx not too long ago and i really like the bass but the top end can a bit too harsh. I got zsn long ago too but it's not too lively. Just saved some dime and i got the zsn pro x. It is what i like of zsn and edx combined with more texture to the sound. So yes, i trust the screaming green rectangle

I settled on the KZ ZS10 pro for knocking about and am very happy. I have several IEMs that are for more critical listening but when I’m in the yard or walking the dog I just enjoy the ZS10 pros.
inverting the starline tips that come with KZ iems is actually pretty useful. just a pain to actually invert them, plus they are more likely to get stuck in your ears that way, but totally worth it for a better seal and sound
I mean yeah, I bought a pair of the KZ ZSN Pros (non X) and absolutely loved them till I lost one of them cause the cable didn't have the greatest attachment in the world to the actual buds.
Thank you for a great video. I was looking for review of this IEM and glad found your video. I really interested in this IEM. I'm definitely going to buy soon.
Yes i can trust him cause i dont make informed decisions from youtubers reviews i buy the headphone/earphone type that i like. I trust what he sais cause im not an audiophile like he is i only buy headphones for the joy of listening to music on the go. No i dont own kz’s purely cause i dont want to i own beats solo 3’s in rose gold and im happy that i have them they provide good sound and comfort for my specific needs, he’s just a guy whos passionate about sound and how you can take that sound and make the most of it.
Honestly, after i lost my orignal kz zsn i replaced them with pro versions because i thaught they were better but the high ends really hurt my ears so i just bought the originals again. I usually use these with a equilizer and bass booster app and they sound absolutly amazing in my opinion
after having the headphones for a year the paint on the metal will be scratched off. the strain relief on the dual prong side of the cable may build up green stuff (copper rust but somehow liquid?). the plastic of the headphones near the connecter may be destroyed/damaged if you put it under pressure in a bag or in your pockets. the metal grill that covers the driver assembly comes off but can be put back in place (there is an o-ring between the plate and plastic). the driver assembly and plastic shell touch and green stuff builds up there. the sound is as described. therefore the kz zsn pro x is an ok set of headphones due to the low price (especially on sale), good audio quality and the problems with the build quality are minor but need to be kept in mind.
Love your review style! Very honest and informative. I will buy this pair because I am neither an audiophile nor have ever had a good pair of headphones yet and I think these are a great introduction.
I bought some nicer kz zs10 pros and haven't been disappointed with them. Mg only issue is the cables tangle much easier than other earbuds for some reason, but nevertheless they are a good choice of earbuds to carry around. Might buy a nicer pair of headphones at some point for when im at home.
I'm glad these are getting popular. I bought a pair like 3 years ago. I even imported them. They were so good! But i was scared they would disappear if i ever needed to buy them again. Cut to 3 months ago I don't even have to import them anymore!!
Coming from skullcandy hesh pros and skullcandy jibs, these iems are the best sounding headphones/earbuds I've ever listened to. The audio quality, to me, is perfect. They provide the exact sound staging and quality I want. Best $25 I've ever spent. They're not, however, good for sleeping in.
i currently daily driving a legendary Sony MH1C, and also an ex original ZSN user back in the day. after years of just putting it in the box and never used them ever since their pins sorta crack, i try to listen to it again and man, can't believe that i used to daily drive them, because this is some of the most peakiest & harsh iem ever 😂 like to the point where i need to be careful with the music that i will listen to so it won't "stab" me with it's harsh treble.
I've got quite a lot of KZ around here with a fair few CCA's and a couple other brands of IEM's, the KZ ZSN Pro/X's need to have a bit of adjusting with an EQ but they're surprisingly good for the money. I couldn't go back to normal diaphragm type earbuds after using decent multi-driver IEM's.
i got the zsn pro's, they sound nice but my phone's volume buttons don't go quiet enough with them. they can get uncomfortable after a while, the plastic housing is quality and rigid so digs into the ear. the cable is braided but is fraying after 3/4 months (bodged with tape to keep working), great to know cables are replaceable. unbeatable price for the build quality. 9/10. will buy the pro x's next
Nitpick: For speakers you want a straight, flat line. But earphones stick straight into the ear canal and therefore you miss out on the effect the scoop-shaped pinna of the ear has on the sound. To compensate and get a similar sound to flat speakers, you need a hump somewhere around 2 or 3 kHz. It's hard to measure precisely so there are a number of "target" curves earphones can be tuned based on, like diffuse field, free field, Harman, etc. Many companies have their own target curve or just fiddle with the drivers until it sounds right though. Also those Shures look like SE530. The newer SE535 have a detachable cable with MMCX connectors.
I trust him for fairly affordable yet quality items. Personally I run kicker headphones. I use the 25$ (USD) kicker EB94 Micro fit buds when working around the property I manage. When not working I use the kicker tabor 2 for 75$ (USD, I got em on sale) they are pretty balanced and reach a good volume!
I have owned many earbuds and headphones M50s, CX300, Koss Porta Pro, Bose QC etc. Just got the ZSN Pro X today and testing these earbuds on LG V50+, the detail presentation is quite good, being a monitor, it doesn't have much of its own sound signature, just doing its job, every detail of the sound track is well presented (comparing to M50s, this is a high complement for the price). However it does have a low buzzing noise I suspect which is due to electronic isolation is not done well considering its price, this can be tuned by EQ. I don't think most buyers will hear this noise if are using a phone or player with lower driving power. All and all, for this price, it is a decent buy, still waiting for the ZS10 Pro tomorrow, I bought both for research.
I found the ZSN Pro a little too bright for me, I prefer their ZS10 Pro, overall a great brand compared to some of what you find at this price in a regular store or on Amazon.
I had a pair of these a while back, and while I was super impressed with the actual sound quality of these (at the time all I had to compare to are high end gaming headsets) I noticed after a while one of the buds started to have a distinct ringing sound, like the type you would hear in cheap bluetooth headphones. It would go away after sound started playing, but when they're just in your ears it was really annoying. Did anyone else have this problem with them?
I had this problem with them right out of the box however since I have tinnitus it doesn’t bother me. One other problem I have with them though is listening to music on high volume kind of sucks because of the slightly boosted highs that pierce your ears whenever a vocalist pronounces the letter S
Ok, little story time. Saturday I went yardsaling as I normally do. However, I found little to no luck finding anything cool and soon went to goodwill to look around, wondering if anything could possibly be waiting in there as a secret treasure. Nothing, nothing stood out to me and I was about to leave. However, I went to go look into a glass case and spotted a familiar brand...Sennheiser. it was a case, which made me extremely hopeful as it was marked as 4 dollars. When I opened the case, a pair of perfectly good MXC 350s were staring me right in the face. Needless to say I left tickled.

Although they aren't without issues mainly the wireless earphones (S1) having interference issues between phone and earphone. Overall, great video and I look forward to see what's next.
as a side note, thanks to the detachable cables, you can buy little modules that attach there and canvert the KZs to be wireless
Also replace cable if ever it gets damaged. They are goated for giving us these options
Reading some of the comments I assumed this video would omit the fact these are 20 quid but after watching id say the video is very good and helpful. You constantly mention they are 20 quid and mention multiple times that these are excellent quality for the money. Quality video 👍.
For an old fellow, you do bring something new to this hobby. I like your approach to the reviews, keep it up.
Old fellow! Young whippersnapper…..🙂
Which $300 over-ear headphones do you use?
@@AudioFixation right now I own two sets, because I'm a big nerd. For closed back/ANC I use the Sony WH-1000XM4. for indoor use/open back headphones I use the Grado sr125e set. If you haven't had a chance to try the Grados, I recommend it! They don't break the bank (as much) and they really excel in the mids and highs, which is perfect since I use them at home for phonecalls and podcasts.
Really good reviews! I'm new to the audio world so you including the graph really helped me visualize what you meant
Really enjoyed this Review, looking foward to more vids from u
Thanks! More stuff coming soon.
I bought those right after I saw the video with him talking about them, I got the limited Gold Pro X pair. I love them, they sound great
ah yes the accent perfection
Wa'or
I've got to say, I have these iem's and they do not disappoint. I think most people are used to really bad iem's and these are a great upgrade.
I bought a pair when they were 50% off and holy cow, it's the best pair I have used
Love the review and you are being honest they have there faults. However if you wanna talk audio you need a good mic. Just a critique. Otherwise good stuff.
I watched dank pods' video for these buds, but, i wanted a second opinion and am glad i found your video.
Definitely a gateway iem 😀
I have these they sound amazing
i have bought them my self recently and they are high quality in ears for literaly 20 bucks. They look great and sound great.
I would recomend them as well to every one who likes in ears and dont want to pay much money.
Well said
If a big brand will have made what this company makes i am sure the prices will go really high for the lowest product...just because of the brand name.
I have the regular kz szn pro and I absolutely love them. I can't believe the price
Ridiculously good value
the non-X version has less treble but otherwise theyre near identical, some reviews even say they have zero differences.
Thanks!
you can get a cable for them with a mic, that should also let you pause, play your music
I just got these and I’m absolutely in love with them they fell and sound like $100 iems for just $30
wow!, a 2 years old review!
And they are very loud.
nice!cant wait to see this channel boom!
Just because each brand has its own advantages and good products does not mean that it negates all
Having bought some ZS10 Pro's last month after wanting something on the go.
Because the price difference is too big, but this one has this sound quality at this price, it is very good. You can feel its bass performance.
800 subs!? Christ, the youtube algorithm has served you well. May it help you more in your future endeavors.
(I am actually subscribed to dankpods lol)
Thanks. Can’t complain!!
Up to 944 within a day
As someone who has these and reviewed them, I think they are worth the hype
I bought these last week. I really like them. For the price they are hard to beat. My only real compliant is the cord tangles quite easily.
Your vids are so chilling to watch. Keep up the good work please!
Glad you like them!
Bought them for my girlfriend after this video; in blinging gold of course! Thank you, she loves 'em.
I’m glad she likes them!!!
there are alot of reviews on this product, but the title, its a good way to get the viewers interested. nice
I'd like to see Wade Nixon's (DankPods) Reaction to this!
Me too!
@@AudioFixation comment on his video of these headphones with this video link
Welp im subbed, found you ironically through DankPods and gotta say i enjoyed this video
This is great quality, nice mate!👍
Hey thanks for watching, glad you liked it!
the perfect "flat" line is for compensated graphs, that same line for uncompensated should have that 2-3khz mountain (ear gain) and sloping highs etc
I've wore these while playing with band and I can say, they are insanely good
im pretty happy with my kay-zeds. they're the iems that got me into this hobby
do i want something better? absolutely, but for walking around theyre not too shabby at all
I settled on the KZ ZS10 pro for knocking about and am very happy. I have several IEMs that are for more critical listening but when I’m in the yard or walking the dog I just enjoy the ZS10 pros.
Very comprehensive in depth review, thank you :)
inverting the starline tips that come with KZ iems is actually pretty useful. just a pain to actually invert them, plus they are more likely to get stuck in your ears that way, but totally worth it for a better seal and sound
One of the best headphones I ever had. And for that price it's just unbelievable
I mean yeah, I bought a pair of the KZ ZSN Pros (non X) and absolutely loved them till I lost one of them cause the cable didn't have the greatest attachment in the world to the actual buds.
Oops - so the bud just slipped off? Suboptimal outcome mate
@@AudioFixation just a bit yeah
I have these headphones and I absolutely love them as content headphones, where the upper mids boost is amazing for understanding dialogue
I think you'll enjoy them. Thanks for watching and for the kind comments!
I bought some nicer kz zs10 pros and haven't been disappointed with them. Mg only issue is the cables tangle much easier than other earbuds for some reason, but nevertheless they are a good choice of earbuds to carry around. Might buy a nicer pair of headphones at some point for when im at home.
Very good review of these earphones I might buy them. By the way is it me or do you sound a little bit like James May?
It's been mentioned before!
YES you can. Just got my meze 99 Classics. Best headphones I've ever heard!
i currently daily driving a legendary Sony MH1C, and also an ex original ZSN user back in the day. after years of just putting it in the box and never used them ever since their pins sorta crack, i try to listen to it again and man, can't believe that i used to daily drive them, because this is some of the most peakiest & harsh iem ever 😂 like to the point where i need to be careful with the music that i will listen to so it won't "stab" me with it's harsh treble.
good job I hope your channel goes very far
I was considering getting these but I'm definitely going to
thanks alot
Thanks Oliver!
I've got quite a lot of KZ around here with a fair few CCA's and a couple other brands of IEM's, the KZ ZSN Pro/X's need to have a bit of adjusting with an EQ but they're surprisingly good for the money. I couldn't go back to normal diaphragm type earbuds after using decent multi-driver IEM's.
yes, you can trust him. recommending amazing headsets like the akg k240 studio headsets etc
i got the zsn pro's, they sound nice but my phone's volume buttons don't go quiet enough with them. they can get uncomfortable after a while, the plastic housing is quality and rigid so digs into the ear. the cable is braided but is fraying after 3/4 months (bodged with tape to keep working), great to know cables are replaceable. unbeatable price for the build quality. 9/10. will buy the pro x's next
Yes, I didn't expect the plastic shell to be so hard. This price is really rare.
Dankpods is very honest with his reviews thats the main reason i have taotronics earbuds and FUCKING LOVE THEM.
Thank you for saying "Moondrop Starfield" for 2.5 seconds. The best purchase of my life.
I bought the KZ ES4's at Dankpods' recommendation and can I just say, they are awesome.
Hi, the buzzing could be due to their high sensitivity picking up the electrical noise on the output. A higher quality DAC may isolate the noise.
Noice, good review, simple and on-point.
(Listening to this review on my KZ ZS10 Pro's!)
I found the ZSN Pro a little too bright for me, I prefer their ZS10 Pro, overall a great brand compared to some of what you find at this price in a regular store or on Amazon.
The ZSN are a little too bright for me too. Agreed.
when i first got these they sounded very harsh but i got used to it and love them, bass is amazing massive improvement from my apple buds
Thanks for the video! It was enjoyable and very helpful.
I got some of them before watching this. Good to know they are not terrible
I am big fan of KZ's. I used to have zsnx, as 10 and as 06. They are amazing!
as a newcomer to high quality audio, these are way cheaper and way better than every pair of over ear headphones i have used.
very nice explanation. I order one for my self after watching this review.
