human bodies are sexual. Acting like if someone has ever had a sexual thought while his body and hands are pressed against a woman's body then that makes them weird is fake , insincere virtue signalling.
Totally agree with everything you said Brandon. Especially the "If you think this is sexual, you're weird". I always say that I'm too busy struggling to survive vs the girls at our gym, to think anything sexual at all. I also agree with some of the other comments, girls tend to be more chill and even if they decide to go hard, they're doing it with technique and speed vs guys who just hulk smash. I literally had a guy grab my ankle and just start twisting. He didn't have any control of my limbs/body, just gunna grab and turn it hoping to cause pain (it didnt) going for a "win" during practice.
Exactly my experience. Rolls with women are in most cases a lot more technical. I also got my last injury from rolling with a women 30 kilos lighter then me. I thought she won't pull that dela riva sweep off on me. But she did.
It's really good to roll with an upper belt woman. You really learn where to be strong, and where to be cautious. It's good to roll with women because you can really practice control (not the bad kind). Meaning to control your strength and where to use it properly. It's almost like women are the finesse training, while men are the strength training.
This was an awesome response. I quit many gyms because the men wouldnt roll with me because "rolling with women is useless", or believed bjj is a mans sport, so they smashed me so much that I couldnt learn because I couldn't move. Now I'm at a great gym where I learn more women's self defense AND I roll with men who dont have egos or beliefs about men and women rolling together. There's one thing I wish men understood. Many of us women get into this sport to learn how to defend ourselves. We cant learn how to do that if the men are going to shun us. So, if youre a man who cares about women, train with us. Think about how training with us can teach us how to get out of a bad situation.
If you can't get anything from rolling with women, you suck. In BJJ everyone has to practice with ppl of different skill levels and sizes, it's not highschool wrestling.
It depends. I think some women seek me out as a training partner because I'm an older, smaller guy and know how to have a mutually productive training roll without either of us getting wrecked. Like you said, larger, stronger guys should roll with a female training partner like they would with a significantly smaller guy. I've often been outclassed by smaller female training partners who have better technique and mobility than me. In many ways they are more challenging than the large young male beasts, just in a different way.
A long time ago Firas made a video ab out this topic, I remember him saying something along the lines of 'if you're one of those guys that can roll with a woman and not think a single sexual thought, good for you'. This is one of the best in the game saying this. Different people will react differently to different situations
Theirs probably some benefit to rolling with women but someone shouldn’t feel forced to especially if it conflicts with their values.(just read the bio😂)
I avoid rolling with women and will only do so upon their insistence and after warning them, I'm also extremely careful. I weigh 280 pounds and am still pretty mobile/athletic for that weight. I weigh more than double most women at my gym, its just not smart to roll with that much weight disparity.
I did this with big guys the whole technique based rolling method. I'm 5'6 so when I get guys 6 ft+ I have to be the fast one and the technique driven one and I've polished so many escapes and moves having to do them on big guys that when I roll with women or people closer to my size it's a piece of cake
Sexualizing jiu-jitsu is crazy. If I refuse to roll with a woman because it's sexual, then there's a very very very good chance that I shouldn't roll with men either, because that's also sexual. Let's just get things straight... Jiu-jitsu is NOT sex. Whoever I roll with is my rolling partner, not my date.
@@brandonreed3xFaras Zihabi would praise you as one of the gifted men who has no sexual thoughts about women. You should be proud of yourself and all of us should aim to be like you; a man who wouldn’t have a single sexual thought while rolling with an attractive woman. Nice job bro 👍
In youth wrestling around my area, till you hit 14u, girls normally compete in the same divisions with boys. By 14u the boys tend to be too strong for most girls to successfully compete in the same division, so girls are given their own brackets. My 13yo son has been rolling with girls in both bjj and wrestling since he was 10 and doesn’t think twice about it. This won’t even be an active conversation in ten years when boys my son’s age are adults.
I stopped rolling with women because of the race issue, I am black, and I have had comments directed towards me by white guys and two of the instructors that were thinly veiled, so I stopped. I forgot that the same racial issues that occur in the general public don't stop when you enter sanctity of the academy. I didn't even think of it because everybody in the academy was so nice until their insecurities spring up. Everything is cool now I just stay away. They don't know this but my wife is white.
@@Snailshroom I don't know about the rest of the world or the US. I just know I had a false sense of within these walls things will be different than in the general public and they weren't. @@BOBBOB-tx7oxThe rest of the world, which is composed of humans, is profoundly racist. If you think racism is bad here you should research it in other countries. What the these people at your gym say that was “thinly veiled”?
It's always going to be a thing. At the gym how many times have you or instructors had to remind 1st-year white belts about going with women? Zahabi from Tristar has a good take on this, and I can see his point, very much so if you are a gym owner. For me, I think of all the women in my gym as my sisters. I do avoid some rolls whether it be a woman or a dude, just because they are tryhards or too spazzy. I won't say no if they really want to go, and when I do roll with them I just do position lockdowns. I think the best point you made is that if you have a chance to go with a high-level female you can learn a lot from them. They are so good technically and if you know how to reel back some of your strength and try to outsmart them you will be surprised and probably appreciate it a lot more than you think.
I got a question. I am a 39 year old white belt and would really like to compete a lot. I'm from a small place in germany and train at a small gym with an instructor who just became a brown belt. I have kids and a family and can't move. I know I'm not gonna win master worlds anytime soon, but is there any chance I will be able to even be competetive on a national level? What are the best people like me can hope for if they want to compete?
@juulfiend2103 Thanks for the recommendation my friend, but I live almost four hours away from Berlin. I have a wife and three kids, and a very good life here. There is no way we're moving from friends, family, jobs, schools and the good life we've built here just so an old guy like me can get top shelf training =)
Hey Man, love your videos and I appreciate your perspective. My advice usually to both genders would be: Don’t do it if you don’t feel comfortable because that is okay and you should be allowed to set your own boundaries without judgment And if you do decide to roll, just be a good training partner and don’t be freaking weird about lol
My problem is im already borderline autistic. I also bench 375. Im also a white belt. The only two options i have are overpower or lay there like a fish.
Well, there is one younger women who is trying to kill me all the time, but fortunately I'm bigger and stronger. At first I didn't have to use much of that advantage, but she's improved to the point where I do now, and I let her know it. Often I have to pin her to take a break and catch my breath. She needs to work on defense more anyway, I think many of the other women don't challenge her much unless they are a lot bigger and more experienced. I think that's why she seeks me out to drill and roll sometimes.
@RicoMnc that's awesome. I was going to comment about women and defense. I'm not a woman who's 120. I'm 5'8", weigh 160 and lift. Sometimes, the women in my class, who are smaller, aren't as challenging or challenging in a different way. I like rolling with more experienced men because it helps me work on real life self defense. The reason I started the sport was was to learn what to do if attacked. I appreciate men like you. Keep it up. 😊
When rolling with the opposite sex, kids or even smaller people of the same sex you have to be careful. I normally don’t ask to roll with them.
