- The Christmas That Almost Wasn't is a cancelled animated holiday TV special that was supposed to be released in 1983. It would have aired on NBC.
Plot:
The show centers around Chuck E. and Jasper T. Jowls as they set out to the North Pole in order to save Christmas.
Cast:
John Widelock as Chuck E. Cheese (PTT Era)
Scott Paulin as Jasper T. Jowls
Pasqually, Helen Henny and Mr. Munch do not appear in this special.
I love how Chuck actually cared for Jasper at the end. Usually he’s calling Jasper a “Fruit Cake Dog” lol. I know he cares for his friends but seeing him show his soft side to his friends is nice.
The reason why he's a happy jolly guy in the special is because Chuck started to become nice beginning with the Broadway Helen show tape
Given its John Widelock, it should have been a Christmas Carol film. He would make an excellent Scrooge

I can tell why this was canned, it wasn’t because of the bankruptcy, but because Chuck E didn’t call Jasper “Fruitcake Dog”
He didn't called Jasper like that since 1981.
This was the whole reason why they recasted chuck e cheese. Because they said he couldn't sing literally. They said his voice actor couldn't sing he's doing fine for his character

I am glad to know that people saw this at the time, they deserved it. But how do you know it was in the stores?! Just curious. Only asking because I’m one big CEC nerd who hasn’t quite learned this.
@@johnmoss1444 Hi! As written in The Pizza Times, every location played it. We've also found newspaper ads that the special aired on TV in Canada in 1986.

John widelock did the speaking role for Chuck E. Cheese and Scott Wilson did the sing 🎤 role for Chuck E. Cheese.

@@thegamergeek1390 I thought John Widelock (may he rest in peace) did not do a bad job as playing a much nicer Chuck E. I thought he did good in the special. It's a shame that we never got to hear that much anymore afterwards. I would have liked to hear how he would have done during the late 1980s to early 1990s (no offense to Scott Wilson, who also did great).

Chuck E’s always been nice! Oh wait you’re talking about the PTT Chuck that threatened Jasper for animatronic shutdown. Yeah surprising considering the era. Probably this was the transition from mean Chuck to nice Chuck.

@@DepthTravel Yeah and if John Widelock (God rest his soul) got to still play Chuck E. Cheese and was never succeeded by Scott Wilson, we would seen him voice more of a nicer Chuck E. It’s a shame he couldn’t continue since he did really good portraying the nicer side of Chuck E. Cheese in this special while still maintaining the accent.

I can't understand Why they almost ignore this huge animation.
I just heard about this just of today. Now I've started watching this and from what I can tell there's not really any real animation, correct? Like did it not get completed or was this how it was going to look when it was supposed to air on TV?
@@oskarhasabeanie So kinda like a storybook type animated special just not fluent animation. And they say that Hanna Barbera was limited animation. Still seems like a legit Christmas special. From CEC Master he says it wasn't canceled cause they showed it in the restaurants during Decmeber.
@@Grover1234 I would probably assume they wanted to make it like this because they felt that trying to animate it would result in an ugly mess.
I think it was animated but due to it being canceled it wasn’t finished and was also lost and this is what we could find
apparently they were going to completely animate it, but due to the financial troubles Nolan's companies were going through during this time (PTT included), they had to rush it and release it as basically colored storyboards. that's my understanding at least.
So was this the only project kadabrascope worked on and never produced anything
