Thanks. Thing1 has not grown tail feathers back, some poorly formed feathers have formed and fallen a few times. Thing2 has all its feathers back and can fly like a champion. He's been out flying in the wild and came back when he was tired.

Yeah the mite thing seems pretty likely. I found one just before Christmas at the workshop I work at he glided in and landed under a car so I took him out and flew off a bit wobbly. Next day he was back and I picked him up and there were a lot of bugs crawling on him I gave him a wash in the sink to get a few off and popped him in a box to go to the vet, apparently theres a disease going around them in brisbane

I got a mite spray and also treated the other local birds for mites on a rainy day when they were on my porch eating apples...they thought it was rain...the 2 i have in re hab are doing great. Thing#2 is very sporty now and can hover and navigate around the house. Thing#1 is just getting more distance and confidence as the feathers grow back. Hers are growing much slower...and we lost a new tail feather as it didn't form correctly. This led me to ponder how can I get them to preen more so started giving them baths with fulvic acid to make sure no viruses or fungus was left in the feather cuticle. New feathers now look normal and formed correctly! She should be flying well by the months end I reckon. Thanks for telling your story!

their tails and wing feathers look way too short .maybe they ripped em out by scratching . unless they r just babies . mine has an extra long set of feathers under his wing and over the tail but I had it 8yrs and it was wild so I didn't see it as a baby.

Yes they are pretty loud. Not as loud as the Rainbows.
