WOW!! I didn't know WikiTree was so awesome! I'm chomping at the bit to go dive in! Thank you so much Connie and Mindy! With every Genealogy TV video I watch, I realize just how much I still have to learn. 😊 Thank you again!❤
Finding those repeated ancestors is critical for analyzing your DNA matches. Descendants of cousin marriages will share much more DNA than "predicted." Thank you Connie and thank you Wikitree for making this information easily findable!
I have been underutilizing WikiTree!!! This is wonderful. Thanks! I have long had a problem identifying 'Repeats! It happened a lot of my Quaker Ancestors!
I have added Thousands of names and I’m the top contributor for people from certain areas from Italy. Respected Genealogist have said that my profiles that I have created are among the best on that platform. I do biographies and I add as much sourcing as possible. It is like doing a New England genealogical register online the way I do it
This is marvelous! Thanks! It's been a long time since I did much at Wikitree, and it is clearly time to focus there. The color coding of repeats is going to to be incredibly helpful to me on my father's side. What a tangle!
@@GenealogyTV Thank you for letting me know. I know you are very busy, but if you do get time to do an updated video for 2024, I would love to watch it. I learn so much from the videos, even if not totally up to date with changes. You are doing a tremendous job for us. You are appreciated.
Research Notes in Word! If you do research notes properly, they are a timeline with details. If you want something super visual, consider Lucid Chart. Here is a video on Research Notes. th-cam.com/video/JSx8s8Ku2Qc/w-d-xo.html
I'm still a little confused- I downloaded my GEDCOM from Ancestry after watching this video and thought it would auto-populate, like it did for me at other sites, but it didn't. Am I doing something wrong? Surely I don't have to add every one of my ancestors into WikiTree manually? If so, what is the point of the the GEDCOM?
My Wikitree looks the same as it always has. I did hear that this is the new interface but I do not have it. Is there something I need to do to get it?

Some of the features seems to be from the browser extension, which I highly recommend.
I just tried the mapping part but it doesn't seem to work. One ancestor's marker was in the ocean near the equator in Africa but the person indicated to be there was from Switzerland. Another ancestor from a county in western Virginia showed as being almost in the Atlantic Ocean. Oops!
It's difficult to make your own fan chart when you have many families intermarrying. A lot of my ancestors literally got off the same boat, and they were marrying each other before and after coming to America (due to religious reasons and cultural reasons). One of my grandfathers is my grandfather 3 different ways, and he isn't the only one in my family. I like charts that show the common ancestors.
:( Connie, After all these years of trying to find the likely father of our 4th great grandparent there finally is zip zero zilch now. That's the way it goes sad as it is. We know William and 2 Deed records, where he was and kids he had and what happened at the end. I suppose we will just have to be satisfied in knowing without him we wouldn't be here, That's the only plus to a sad ending :(. I spent a ton of time, tons of money, phone calls, emails, regular mail etc it's been a long and expensive road Now, the book is closed :( Sometimes, even with the best tools it will either workout or not. I had such high hopes. So it looks like my brick wall just added tons more bricks. Connie, if you have any new suggestions, my ears and eyes are open !!! By the way, There are living sons ( Blalock) that could take the YDNA test almost all our matches goes to a female Blalock daughter that is and was available so that is not an option Autosomal only again :(
All these "one tree for all" sites are problematic, but with that said I'll add that WikiTree seems to be the least problematic of them all - by a lot. It's the only one that AFAICT has a good system set up to arbitrate the removal of bad data. The other ones don't have this, and in my opinion they'll eventually become so discredited that they'll be useless.

Glad it was helpful!
I am obsessed by global connections so I quickly made wikitree my main focus when researching.
Thank you for the video! I have WikiTree but have not played with it much. Going to start now.
It's a big step putting all the info in each time on Wikitree! ☺️
I only do the one branch I’m currently working on. That way it is manageable.
Great video thank you learned quite a deal.
Thank you and thank you for supporting the channel.
I occasionally look but guess I've been under utilizing it too.
Thank you for this video. Hopefully there is one for 2024 or later in 2023. I am not finding the same formats.
This is the latest one I have.

What do you recommen for creating a Timeline?

Yes you have to compare each one but once you click add, the Gedcom auto populates the data. This prevents duplication of people on the WikiTree.

That is also on phones
Is there a way to use this to find your 17 digit birth registration number?
Look for records in the county you were born.
@@GenealogyTV I have, no luck. I'm from the U. S., and I 've come across all kinds of numbers, but not that one.

Can you upload dna?
No but you can provide info in your profile on WikiTree
@@GenealogyTV Thank you
No but you can link to other platforms.
Yes, wikitree only show test results from other sites that you put in. But they have nice tools to find who to test etc.
Love you and your great training! You’re a wonderful teacher! 💐🩵🌷💐🌿
Thanks so much and for supporting the channel.
Connie, I live in North Carolina now, originally, from Dayton, Ohio! Did I hear you had Ohio connections? 🩵
Yes
