    I always imagine how lonely and unwell the men or women who spent the last of their lives alone in these houses must have been.

    • @willd.8040

      I do too. They seem like the kinds of houses that had activity at some point, but as the years went by and they got older, they probably spent most or all of their time alone, not upgrading anything. Kind of living in the past. It’s sad.

    The TV with the phone on it is the immortal Zenith 14N22 Chassis which was made basically unchanged between 1966 and 1975 (based on the knobs that was probably a 1966 year set). If you powered it up slowly on a variac and fed it signal there's about a 95% chance it'll still work. It was an all vacuum tube B&W set for the elderly market and the basic design dates back ~1958 (they decided it was perfect and stopped refining it in 1966).
    The other TV is a 1971 Zenith 12B13C52 color TV chassis in the Boyden cabinet (it'd probably wake up and run too)...It's a vacuum Tube/Solid State Hybrid that's all hand wired except for a single postcard sized PCB with a DIP color demodulator IC....I used that exact model set from about 2008 until about 2018 as my main daily driver TV (it is about as good of a picture as a CRT TV can get) and since then as a backup until earlier this month when I stored it in the basement and replaced it with another 1971 Color Zenith with a bigger screen in a swanky Danish Modern cabinet.

    This is one of the most interesting and creative ideas for a YT channel. I would LOVE to spend some time in houses like these. To see things that someone put away one day not knowing it wouldn’t move for 20, 30+ years, is fascinating. I’ve always been obsessed w time and things like time capsules, so I’m happy I found this channel.

    Most everything there reminds me of stuff my parents and grandparents had. I love these kinds of videos because I see stuff I've long ago forgotten about and it brings back so many sweet memories. BUT, after seeing this stuff, I take off and thrift shop my butt off trying to find some vintage stuff. Some of the things I find for .10 to 5.00 would sell for 50.00 and over in thrift shops but I don't sell it. I'd love to find a house like that and restore it!

    In Europe, its quite common to have the washing machine in the kitchen. Also often seen in the bathroom or outside at the back patio or on the roof terrace.
    This little house, with some work and lots of love, could be made a new home for a family.
    No graffiti means still not totally vandalized.

    Petty sure the thing by the chair that you never have seen before is a salon type hair dryer for ladies. It had a plastic hood you put over your hair and the hose sent warm or cool air through to the hood to dry your hair. I believe the little plastic thing on the dresser near the piled-up bed, is a little weaver type thing, you put yarn in it and create woven material, I think. Burl Ives did some Christmas songs (Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer), he had a very mellow clear voice.

    Being a Boomer and in my 60's now I recognize everything in the video being from late 60's, 70's 80's and early 90's. This person probably passed away in the early 90's that is my best guess. The Noxema was a skin moisturizer that mostly women used in the 60's on their faces. It was a white slightly greasy lotion with a smell all it's own. Sort of a minty medicine smell. My sister used to use that stuff....zits were popular back then too...LOL. Burl Ives was a very popular folk singer in the 50's 60's also did some acting and voiceovers. He was the snowman in the Xmas special Santa Claus is coming to town. That small brown container that had that structure embossed on it is the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.

    • @tandy5811
      @tandy5811 หลายเดือนก่อน

      dude half of that stuff is gonna go down with the house when its reclaimed by nature or demo'd down
      i think its best that stuff like vintage tvs, glasses, old toys, ect, things of a long gone era, deserved to be saved and cherished once more (by the right person ofc, there are still idiots out there who dont give a damn and just wreck everything to their hearts content, or sell things for high prices that literally nobody will buy and then they'll just end up sending it to the landfill)

    • @harlowblonde
      @harlowblonde หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @tandy5811 I agree with that. I think calling it stealing is silly. If it's worth something or antique then yes take it. What I was referring to was when the house is ransacked and then people call someone hoarders

    Women used to set their hair in curlers while it was wet. They sat under the dryer to dry their hair. That way when they took it down they could style the dry curls. They world wash and set their hair once a week. They put it up on their head with hair pins. They slept with a hair net on their hair at night so they didn't mess up the "set" hair. I have long hair, but I could never imagine only washing, combing and putting my hair up once a week. My head would itch and hurt so bad. I'm sure it saved them a ton of time. They just got up, bathed and dressed as fast as a man, and quickly started their day, and always looked in perfect order to run a quick unexpected errand. I can't stand anything in my hair when I sleep at night. My mamaw didn't do the hair "setting" thing. She wore a simple big bun at the crown of her head, and used two large hair combs to push the front forward in waves around her face. She combed her hair every day. It's hard to believe she would be 116 if she were still living. I miss here every day and I'm 53. Life truly passes far too quickly. I recognized so much in that home. I loved the furniture. It would be wonderful to see it fixed back up using everything inside to decorate and bring it back to possibly what it looked like back then. Hollywood could use so much stuff in that house for props. Even the clothes and shoes if they were cleaned up. The small door in the living room with the hidden room of windows was so cool. I would love to know the story behind that. Yes, I would climb in there to have a reading nook. The basement didn't look wet. That was amazing. It must have been built very well back in the day.

      This place is actually in pretty pristine condition compared to a lot of abandoned places this age. Looks like it's barely been touched. No graffiti, no broken windows, etc.
      Most of the chaos you're seeing comes from both the relatives of the people who went through the house after the person/people who lived there died, and also animals getting in.

    You know that weird orange machine by the camping lantern, I just remembered
    what it was used for, the yellow mat thing at 33:32 is what that machine made.
    The "briefcase" at 39:46 is an old suitcase, that's how they looked back then.
    The arch at 40:53 is the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, France.
    Did you say you were a mechanic ??, fun fact I am a fully qualified tyre fitter lol

    course 1st, I passed with flying colours but got pregnant with my son sooooo the
    mechanic course was put on hold, this was 26yrs ago lol. Although at the time I
    could already change the points and gap them, do air and oil filter changes and
    everything most other service stuff also do both disc and drum brakes plus I helped

    Noo, even in an apocalyptic situation. if someone got a bad bacteria after eating that, they could die very fast... Is it a house very far from a city or town?

    Noxema is cream for your face. For women. We had a couch similar to that as a kid in the 70s. Had a phone like that too. Had a cannister vacuum. The round thing on the floor is a hair dryer. You have a bonnet attached to the hose and it dries your hair. Remember he said he got hurt and had to use crutches. It's just crazy how these houses are just ransacked and stuff is just everywhere. You know they didn't leave these houses looking like that.

    Almost like a clock... It is a clock. People need to learn analogue, I'm always amazed people can't tell time on an actual analogue clock. I'm assuming the TH-camr here can't as he said it was almost like a clock. My apologies if I was wrong, however many can't tell time on an analogue clock anymore. 🙂

    The room your in at 22:07, is that not a 90's Era TV in the corner? And if the soft drinks expired in 95', but the newspapers in the other rooms were from 1977. I am led to believe that they were an elderly couple with her having disabilities for some years and eventually passed away first, then sometime before 95 he passed away. He possibly was her care giver for some time and left her things as is. Then when he passed, his things were left as they are. No idea who would be left as owner of the house. Someone must own it, just not wanting to have much to do with it.
