Rockers Won't Fit!? Getting A-Head On The Engine Build | Triumph Herald 13/60 Restoration | Part 26

Here we're getting the cylinder head built up and fitted to the Herald's engine, but hit issues getting the reproduction rockers to fit properly.

Gosh, those freeze plugs are well stuck. When I've taken them out before I've always found knocking a chisel on one side will cause it to rotate. It sounds like the valve stems might need a little skim (or perhaps the pushrods)

Yeah I was beginning to think they’d been glued in but they were just firmly stuck, and seated on small ridge so they can’t be spun (or driven too far in!) I have figured out the rocker issue, and it is the rockers at fault, more poor repro parts :(

I would go with you on this one, shorter pushrods are needed, hopefully. Good luck Bob

I’ve done a lot of measuring, and have concluded the repro rockers are to blame as they’re incorrectly shaped. I’ve hopefully solved the problem, but not yet confirmed it…

@@redfoxclassics A lot of repro products for Triumphs seem to have problems with quality of manufacture. It’s a shame and course’s more problems than they save. Hope all goes well. Bob

Yes it’s quite frustrating. I’m going to enquire with the engineering place about having some old ones saved (bushing and refacing) for the GT6. Suspect that’s not going to be cheap so I’ll have to compare it with the “premium” rockers Moss sell…
