When I was in my early twenties I wanted everything designer. Now I'm 30 and I honestly can't justify luxury designer brands. I would prefer to spend my money on life experiences. I still buy designer, but contemporary designers that I love. I don't care for trends, I buy what makes me happy. The constant price increases and decrease in quality also made me less interested. These brands really dont want us wearing them. Your last point also hit the nail on the head, LVMH is behind most of the brands and nothing is special anymore. Your video truly resonated with me.
You're absolutely right. Almost dropped a ton of cash on a bag a few weeks ago. When I checked out their IG, it was all yt models. Why would I spend so much money on a brand that doesn't envision someone like me wearing their stuff?? I've also been cutting down on clothes, that's my kryptonite. And funny enough, the thing that stresses me out the most. My closet is filled to the brim, it's embarrassing. Definitely something I'm working on.
Your maturity is a breath of fresh air. Sad to say there are people twice or triple your age still buying things to be seen and accepted. Thanks for your perspective over the last 2 years. Happy Holidays!
I agree with this. Contemporary brands are KILLING it lately. I find the quality is there for 1000 and under in comparison vs luxe brands are literally selling plastic for 4k 😭
I totally agree with everything you mentioned in the video. What you said about the price of a Prada bag being lowered because people weren't buying it, is really striking. We should all think of boycotting these expensive brands for a while and see what happens.
I agree with everything you said💯 I’ve only purchased 4 luxury bags ever and I stopped 2 years ago after learning that paying thousands on a bag doesn’t equate to top quality leather and hardware! That’s why there are so many complaints about LV Gucci Chanel etc. you’re literally paying for the name!
@@thejuliasaro If you see the condition of my two years old jumbo you would throw up. My husband got me that bag on our wedding anniversary, because I wouldn’t shut up about it for long.
@@thejuliasaro Definitely 💯 will try getting in fix and will let it go soon . I don’t feel the same about Chanel so disappointing. Was in Italy recently and went into a second shop and the quality of the flab bags was amazing OMG.
Spot on! It’s not important anymore. I’m turning 30 next year, getting married and also starting a family. I literally no longer see with the worth in expensive handbags anymore. I just prefer to spend money on quality of life and travelling. Having luxury and quality ONE and DONE is my new motto. Having designer handbags have never actually impacted my life for the better in ANY way.
I kind of went overboard this year on designer bags. I bought too many. Now I have a beautiful collection of bags that I’m absolutely pleased about. But there are a couple of bags I want to sell. It’s okay to get something every once in a while, but not all in one year. I made a mistake, I was new to this designer world, before I never had enough money for it. But I want to travel more and do other things as well, so I won’t be spending all my money on wardrobe next year, that’s for sure! But I was in Barcelona this summer and I got my first ever Louis Vuitton bag, which was such a happy day for me :) Designer things are nice, but they will always be there…. You won’t miss anything if you wait and get something every other year, not every other month. Just chill. Appreciate everything beautiful in life, not just material things. Love the message of this video. :)
Agreed! Especially after rapidly growing my collection of bags/clothing over the past two years I also feel the need to stop buying and start enjoying esp approaching 29. The things you already have plenty of are more than enough to last you the next 5-10+ years if well taken care of and styled right.
I remember i wanted a LV on the go tote so bad. When coach came out with the field tote, i loved it so much and it looks better to me. I want to get my moneys worth out of something.
Hello!!! I don't know what size you wanted with the On the GO tote but that bag is enormous. I saw a woman with the MM size at the airport and she was struggling. Great looking bag, but not functional.
I agree with you on alot of points. I made the decision to slow down at the begining of the year and I maintained my goal. I think trends are cool but I do not live and breathe to keep up with them. I have found that I content with my collection for the most part. I fell in love with designer bags watching my aunts as a child and I will always get that feeling with certain bags. I remember the last time I went into LV and brought a 3K bag and it felt like I went in Macys and brought a pair of shoes. The experience was underwhelming. But I started exploring brands like Brandon Blackwood, Yaito, and Telfar and I love them too. Being more thoughtful and intentional about what I buy has kept me content just as you said.
I've personally cut back to a return to moderation. I've also learned that it is ok to wait and if something sells out, it was not meant to be, and be ok with it. My humble opinion, is that LVMH has gone way too far acquiring almost every big luxury brand, now nothing feels different or special any more. They all have the exact same cookie-cutter feel to them. What a shame. I feel this has ruined luxury.
Thank you so much for this video and for your honesty. I’ve been struggling with myself and coming to these same exact realizations. You’re AWESOME for letting people know the truth that goes on behind the scenes. Appreciate you so much.
What I learned about buying luxury stuff is that you enjoy it for the hell of it and take good care of it for the rest of your life. There’s no point of seeking alleged affirmation from those who don’t have room for you in their lives, let alone be ambivalent of yours. I stopped buying luxury back in Dec. 2022 when I got a steal on an LV hardside suitcase. It was the highest as I could go and as much as I enjoy the suitcase, it sits underneath a table console as home decor. I look at it, clean it and when friends and guests are over for dinner, it’s a cute show and tell. Money well spent, but window shopping for the past year has been really good for my health.
I used to love designer items years ago when they were priced right and quality was better. I stopped buying for several years and stuck to buying classic pieces over trendy pieces. I met a Chanel employee when I was out and about and he told me himself quality is gone and are overpriced. Your videos are true and genuine!!!
Right on Sergio. You have alot of experience and wisdom about luxury brands and that is why I love your channel. I try to only shop vintage or thrift. Youd be amazed at the things people get rid of. Have a great holiday ❤😊
This is such a great video Sergio. Thank you for sharing your perspective. I completely agree with your point about brands not wanting me to wear their items. I would go a step further and say maybe even some department stores don't want me shopping there from the way they act towards me. Very transactional and indifferent. Also not telling me about sales on purpose while telling other customers. I am no longer interested in saving for wishlist items....the prices have gone up to the point where things are just not attainable. I recently went to Coach and got an on sale wallet for $87 dollars for my mom and the customer service was great. I prefer contemporary brands. Thank you for your honesty about what goes on behind the scene. This video really hit home for me in so many ways. Thank you Sergio and Merry Christmas!
This is why you’ve been one of my favorite TH-camrs since 2020. You always keep it real and you have your feet on the ground. I think when we finally reach a stage of financial independence, we tend to get a little crazy with our purchases. And then we begin to realize what we are buying into and decide to focus on truly buying what makes us happy. Really enjoyed hearing your perspective and cannot wait to learn more about Latinx brands to support! 💛
I really enjoyed your video and what you had to say. I don't buy things because of what others may think or not think of me. I love handbags & always have since I was a teenager so I buy whatever I like when I like regardless if it's a trend, designer or not. I work hard for my money and I am choosing to spend it how I see fit. If I'm being 100% honest my favourite clothes come from Walmart. 😊❤ About a year ago I bought a dupe of a Chanel boy bag to see if it I truly liked it before I went ahead and purchased the real thing. It was such a waste you could fit like 2 things. I'm not buying a bag for the name that can't fit all my needs. I'm so glad I saved my money!
I have a question Sergio. Is it possible the Prada sales associates were told it was a temporary price decrease or do you think they were intentionally misleading? I'm genuinely curious.
I would like to hear you talking more about financial literacy. I am curious if you still have your platinum Amex or what else you may be doing differently
Just found your channel and am applauding everything you said. You are intelligent and wise. As a Virgo, you are giving me Virgo vibes 😊. Happy New Year.
A problem I also have with designer bags is not only the ridiculous prices and average to even poor quality, it’s also the fact that everything is so basic and boring now. I see every girl wearing the exact same LV bag up the street. The exact same Gucci Marmont bag is seen everywhere, like I don’t want these bags anymore because everyone has them. These designer bags are no longer special or unique they are blending into the same look. We are constantly being sold the same influencer style that’s being shoved in our faces and it no longer excites me.
I am impressed and admire your work ethic. Your down to earth communication style is a strength. Your experience with handbags is evident. Continued success! Happy holidays and happy new year.

I shop with moderation and only things that match my wardrobe. My collection is primarily LV and Chanel but I also have other commercial bags that I use for work. I’m very selective but I also don’t want a bag that everyone has. I don’t like boring Polene or Alexander McQueen. To each their own. I do agree that buying handbags for TH-cam or clout is lame.
