      They might pronounced some of the food wrong but, they did just fine for the greeting. Sawatdee is also correct. 'Kha' and 'Krub' were only added for the sake of politeness ... I'm Thai and I approved.
      And by the way สวัสดี is pronounced "Sawatdee" not "Sawadee"

    That pronoucation :o lol still a good ep though but for saying hello it doesn't matter who you are talking to the gender part refers to one's self. A girl would say sawadee ka, and a guy would say sawadee kup

    If you are a guy you say "Sawat dee khrab"
    If you are a girl you say "Sawat dee ka"
    which both mean "Hi" in Thai
    but you don't have to change to any gender of whom you greeting to
    just stick with your gender
    and If you want to talk in polite way just add "Khrab" (if you're a boy) or "Ka" (if you're a girl) at the end of every sentence.

    I'm Thai and I love when foreigners are trying hard on the pronunciation, even though they're not perfect!! They are many more menus you should try. There's northern food, which kinda hard to find in US, southern, north-eastern food, they style seafood, noodles, rice plates, etc.. I'm living in SF and I've tried many Thai places here and in LA, even though they are good but never get better than having them in Thailand. You guys should go visit Thailand! The food is way way better there.

      Yes, cause in the 19th century Thailand decided to drastically westernize their country. They did that so that the French and the British would trade with them instead on colonizing them. So along the way, they picked up forks and it became part of Thai culture.

      Silvana Nichole Tan I've watched the whole video and what Lauren said was right, although I initially had this confusion as well.. The concept is wrong. You don't say it differently when you're addressing a specific gender.. The greeting depends on your own gender, not of the person you're talking to.. Hope that helps clarify things

  • @sapphireaqua
    @sapphireaqua 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think you're doing good job on ordering the dishes. They're vary and cover a lot of basic 'must try' dishes. Thumb up!
    from what I see, I think the colour and ingredient should be richer; for example, the green curry should be greener and puffy catfish look like it blend in flour in it which it should not. So safe to say they may adapt or save some ingredients which cause less flavour. Thai dishes have very rich and strong taste. Hope you could come to Thailand and try them someday. ^^

    Actually theres no 2 ways to greet a specific gender. You say "sawatdee KA" if you are a girl. And "sawatdee Krub" if youre a guy. Doesn't matter who youre saying it to. It depends on WHO'S saying it.

  • @remai5868
    @remai5868 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Those look yummy!
    I confirm that almost all of the dishes look the same as a traditional one. (But I don't know about the taste. Lol.)
    For sweet, I recommend 'Kaw neaw mamuang'. It's a dish containing sticky rices with coconut milk and sweet thai mango (especially 'Nam dok mai' breed). You'll get salty-creamy taste from the coconut milk, sweet-juicy from a mango and a gummy consistency from the sticky rices. It's a very interesting combination. And I also recommend every thai sweets that have sticky rice with it. So good!
    Btw, you may be confuse about the greeting way in Thailand. It's separate by the gender of a speaker ,not a listener. But this's still a really good video about thai food. Nice job! :)

" But anyway, to interfere in your conversation a little bit, I don't know what's so wrong with Myung Seob's comment. There was nothing wrong with it. I know that Thais don't use chopsticks on a regualr basis like how Chinese, Japanese, Koreans and Vietnamese do. They only use it for noodles maybe - but that's it. DdoubleV DVV yeah, but the thai still do use chopsticks nonetheless. so if the fung bros are using chopsticks in a thai restaurant, it's not because of who they are, but it's because they're in a thai restaurant. thais use chopsticks to eat some of their food
      the fung bros didn't use chopsticks when they ate mexican food, now did they?
      but myung seob made this out be "true (east) asians" and their chopsticks, whatever that means. he is obsessed with "east asia" this and that. if you've seen some of his comments, you'll understand what i mean.

      real thai do not use chopstick only chainese who immigrate from chaina about 80 years ago use chopstick but now if you come to thailand u can see even chinese they do not use chopstick for eating rice only for eating noodle they use it

    • @ThePeeBottle
      @ThePeeBottle 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      türkçe öğren "only for eating noodles they use it"
      -so in other words, they DO use chopsticks! unless you're saying no thai eats noodles, or that thai noodle dishes aren't really thai. that's basically like saying the food in this video isn't authentic thai food. so is it or is it not?

    Thai males use 'sawadee khrab'
    and females use 'sawadee kha' to greet anyone.
    Thais rarely use chopsticks to eat rice. (they use it with noodle)

      +HalfThaiKorean1990 it's true. in Thai culture, we mainly use chopsticks for noodles. I'm Thai myself and when I was a kid, I used chopsticks to eat rice for fun once and my mom jokingly asked "why are you using chopstick for rice? are you Chinese?" lol all my relatives and Thai friends only use chopsticks for noodles also.

    i lovvee the papaya salad with the raw crab, some areas in thailand use fermented crab, they ferment the crab in fish guts. but it actually leaves a good taste, a light fish sauce etc

    i know what these guys say aren't 100% accurate, but at least they're trying to highlight something that's quite foreign to them or something that they're not used to or never tried before. appreciate the effort and consider it to be lucky to be featured in the video.
    i bet that tenzin guy wouldn't mind if there were some inaccuracies by the fung bros on tibetan food. we all know he's been asking the fung bros to do it for a while now.

    I've been traveling to Thailand twice a year since 2002 and the nearest to authentic thai food I've found in the USA (in my area) is a franchise named Thai Express. Honest it's really good Thai food. It's the only Thai restaurant I will go to now. But the only place to really eat authentic Thai food is in Thailand. That's because it's different depending which area your in. The north is different then the south and so on. So pack your bags and travel to the LOS. Then you can really enjoy great Thai food the way it's meant to be eaten.
