This song is off his 1979 "Marathon" album, and I think it's one of the most underrated rock albums of all time. It's sonically perfect. His guitar playing is spot on, and nothing is overdone. It leaves you starving for more. If you don't have Santana "Marathon", go out and get it. I promise you won't be disappointed. It's more commercial and straight ahead rock than some of his other stuff, and I think he turned a corner musically after that album, returning to more traditional Latin sounds. Anyway, It's one of my favorite albums of all time, and I hope you'll give it a chance. Peace!
+R Linden I totally agree. His "rockiest" album and also my favorite album. Its impossible to get tired of it. Inner Secrets is where this style started, it topped with Marathon and sunk a bit with Zebop. Just my humble opinion.
I have always thought that he would have been the perfect replacement in Journey for Perry. They have such a similar voice....but Alex never got the recognition he deserved....
saw this line up in Santa Cruz, CA. circa 1981. He had moved there and gave a free concert at the civic auditorium. I knew about Alex from David Sancious and Tone. The show lasted about 3 hours. Amazing. I had been working in a record store at the time and Carlos would buy all the Jimi Hendrix bootlegs. Wonderful fellow. Always been an inspiration to not just me, but an entire generation. Always knows how to bridge the gap between anglos and latinos. GOD BLESS CARLOS SANTANA.
As a 10 year old Marathon was an album that I listened to over and over thanks to my older brother that bought it as soon as it came out. Part of the soundtrack to my life.
LOVE THIS SONG!! Carlos' intro Two Tits Up!! He's one of the very rare guitar players that plays the whole damn guitar, not one inch of it isn't touched!! F**kin' EFFORTLESS
This is live folks! Listen to the studio version and then listen to this one. Alex and his pitch is phenomenal in the days of auto-tune this is amazing!
@@coinraker6497 I'm going to guess here... In the studio they overdubbed Alex on backing vocals as well. I saw this great version of his band live and the only really good backup singer they had when I saw them was Raul.
Great song and great vocalist 👏 Alex Ligertwood was awesome singer for Santana & Gregg Roile,Greg walker where the best & guitar 🎸 Carlos Santana & Neal Schon the best 👌....Ray Patel.
Lyrics: Well I told you 'bout that attitude Didn't do me any good Cause you took your love away You left me here alone with all this lonely heartache There are places I remember Where the ladies were so tender Against you they can't compare Baby we've just got to get it back together All I ever wanted was to be with you All I ever wanted was to be with you I just got to get it through to you That my loving heart is ever true Please come back to where you belong Girl you got to know I'll never do you wrong All I ever wanted was to be with you All I ever wanted was to be with you That's all I ever wanted to do baby yeah All I ever wanted was to be with you baby All I ever wanted was to be with you I just got to get it through to you That my loving heart is ever true Please come back to where you belong All I ever wanted was to be with you All I ever wanted was to be with you All I ever wanted was to be with you yeah yeah All I ever wanted was to be with

Alex is an amazing singer! I see that he's played with other greats such as Jeff Beck, Brian Auger, The Dixie Dregs, The Average White Band, Bill Kreutzmann and Brent Mydland from the Grateful Dead, and John Cipollina from Quicksilver Messenger Service. :)

Yup - spot on asessment.
I'm not sure. Loved Zebop a whole bunch.
If you like Santana as a rock band, you will love Marathon! It's the only Santana disc I own and it is the best. IMO.
Dr. Richard Linden , I am a lifetime Santana can and I agree with you 100%
I don't understand why this isn't on Classic Rock Radio as a standard.
Vivzid It's played on 100.3 The Sound in LA all the time.
well not in Detroit, the so-called 'Rock City'. I own you a drink. :-)
Vivzid KSHE 95 in St Louis still plays this song ☺
Vivzid this song played on Detroit radio all the time.
@@johnwinn7111 Agreed. I first heard it on either 101.1 WRIF or 98.7 WLLZ back in the day. Those were Detroit's best rock stations in 1980.
This is one of those songs you just play LOUD.
Yup !!
One of the few times that a live version of a song is better then the recorded one. They hit it out of the ball park!
Dam right..That was bases loaded, and a Crushed ball over the left field fence into the parking lot
Who remembers when this was the theme song for "Supershops" Commercials on the radio? lol Love this tune, another great!
Lighterwood!. The best singer with-in-for Santana.
Asdrubal Romero Alex Ligertwood was my favorite Santana singer
Totally agree with you what a voice. Passion at its best. He rocks
I would agree Glasgow’s finest
Ex-aqueo with Gregg Walker for me!!!

As a 10 year old Marathon was an album that I listened to over and over thanks to my older brother that bought it as soon as it came out. Part of the soundtrack to my life.
I like it, and the Inner Secrets album from the year before.
Omg that was epic 🥰🤗
This song is completely under rated and kicks ass with Alex's time being Santanas singer. He has one hell of a voice.
Alex legertwood another great 👍song....love it
This was on my playlist for when I went for a run. Highly motivating.
Never tire of hearing this. It's sooo great. Thanks so much.
What a song! What an LP!

Graham Lear On Drums as well, he was on of Santana's BEST!
So good live jammin Carlos. Lighterwoon vocals. Rockin.

The best guitar player ever Carlos Santana
Love me some Alex and Santana for my nightly fix!! THE BEST EVER!!!!
LOVE THIS SONG!! Carlos' intro Two Tits Up!! He's one of the very rare guitar players that plays the whole damn guitar, not one inch of it isn't touched!! F**kin' EFFORTLESS

Alex the best!!! 👍👏
Omg wow, how right you are. Thanx 👍🏼🎸✌💜🙏🏼
Yeah he sounds great. What I do miss compared to the studio version though is the harmony on the chorus.

I only ever heard this song on the radio (or anywhere outside of me putting it on) once. Incredible fucking song!
What an absolute jam! Love this live version. Does anyone know if Santana still performs this in concert?

Lyrics:
Well I told you 'bout that attitude
Didn't do me any good
Cause you took your love away
You left me here alone with all this lonely heartache
There are places I remember
Where the ladies were so tender
Against you they can't compare
Baby we've just got to get it back together
All I ever wanted was to be with you
All I ever wanted was to be with you
I just got to get it through to you
That my loving heart is ever true
Please come back to where you belong
Girl you got to know I'll never do you wrong
All I ever wanted was to be with you
All I ever wanted was to be with you
That's all I ever wanted to do baby yeah
All I ever wanted was to be with you baby
All I ever wanted was to be with you
I just got to get it through to you
That my loving heart is ever true
Please come back to where you belong
All I ever wanted was to be with you
All I ever wanted was to be with you
All I ever wanted was to be with you yeah yeah
All I ever wanted was to be with
what sucks is santana doesn't play anything from the alex ligertwood years live on stage!!! that pissed me off when I saw him twice.
@Robert Wagner. You were born to late. In the 80's and early 90's he played all the songs and albums that Ligertwood had sang in.
La banda es "Santana" su líder y fundador es Carlos Santana, de las mejores bandas de todos los tiempos Viva Santana!!!!
Ligterwood is such a great singer
Great rock song
SAW THIS ENSEMBLE IN SANTA CRUZ, CA. FOR FREE CIRCA 1981 ?
Carlos's throwback Buffalo Sabres jersey IS FIRE!
#7 Rick Martin, 1/3 of the French Connection, '72 to '79.
Todo lo que quiero .
Making E-D-A sound dynamic and dramatic.😍🤩😇 with that fancy percussion, vim and vigor. This song always grabs you by the balls (or cooch).

🤣✌awesome
it's 1980 and Greq Walker not on vocals. I want to hear Greg do this too
after i asked i went and looked it up thanks tho. it does kinda sound like michael mcdonald tho dont it?
Buffalo Sabre’s Jersey? Why?
He wore a bunch of different hockey jerseys onstage back then.
Why not
He makes it look so effortless, it's not, believe me
Just realized Carlos is wearing a Buffalo Sabres hockey shirt!
Who's the singer?
Alex Ligertwood
Alex is an amazing singer! I see that he's played with other greats such as Jeff Beck, Brian Auger, The Dixie Dregs, The Average White Band, Bill Kreutzmann and Brent Mydland from the Grateful Dead, and John Cipollina from Quicksilver Messenger Service. :)
Thanks for the answers, guys.
Jonathan Washington ..... Alex Ligertwood vocals from 79-94 for Carlos
Geez, Carlos wearing the Buffalo Sabres Jersey looks like Don Luce is playing guitar
