As the German Protestant, George came over from Hannover, not speaking a word of English, let alone Welsh, Irish or Scottish Gaelic, Charles Edward Stuart was barred from the throne by a law passed by parliament that stated that no Roman Catholic could ever be king or queen again. That’s the British way. The sooner Scotland leaves the union the better.
