- Thank you so much for the support on the Japanese voice clips video!! Here's the English version of it. Unlike the other video, this one does not have the usual sound effects, that is because the sound effects and the voice clip files are stored separately. This way, you can hear the voices more clearly.
Enjoy the video and please support The Great Ace Attorney!

Mikotobas voice actor did such a MARVELOUS JOB. I love how she made her accent a mix of Japanese and British accents, it sounds incredibly authentic!
I _could_ be incorrect about this, so please fact-check me if you're doubtful, but I recall hearing that Mikotoba's voice actress was actually a native Japanese speaker who learned English later in life, hence why her accent is so authentic. She sounds exactly as a native Japanese person learning British English should.
@@thepearled0120 You are correct. All major Japanese characters in the game have english VAs that have Japanese descent
@@lukaanderson8281 Well, more specifically, Ryunosuke and Susato are. Because of the pandemic at the time, everyone else descent was put on the "optional" category, meaning that they REALLY wanted to nail down the main characters, but the others, just had to do their best.

@@josecarrilloii4036 Aha, someone else who understands how much translation issues got in the way here. I mean really, the traditional AMERICAN accents from the Eastern isle really needed to be included
Iris sounds so cute
And damn Barok's voice acting is another level
Kudos to Robert Vernon for his performance! He also played the voice of Eistinien from the Final Fantasy 14 games.
@@HanaHime29 oh no, that's how I recognise him! he's a great VA but now I feel dumb for not recognising him sooner 😆
@@vgbcp3rs0na41 You forgot *"Hold it!" **_("Matta!"_** in Japanese).*
When the VA’s give SUCH RICH performances, it just makes me crave a fully voiced Ace Attorney game.
The text itself has a voice of it's own and thus gives makes the AA games a lot better pacing. I personally would prefer if they went the Professor Layton route and only had voices for key moments such as breakdowns, accusations of who the murderer, and confessions is etc etc. The breakdowns feel less impactful since you have to read while also watching them, which is easier said than done.
I feel like TGAA2 sort of hints at this as it had that lengthy, voiced cutscene at the end of case 3. The last 10 minutes or so of TGAA2 are also voiced.
me too its really disappointing that they only voiced the cutscenes which aren't that numerous i hope we get a fully voice one one day
Yeah, with how stellar of a job the VA's did I'm really surprised we don't hear more of them throughout the duology. Hell, they even hired a voice actor to voice Iris specifically yet throughout the entire story Iris only has two voiced lines, both at the end of the second game and neither of which are really important to the context of the moment.
@@Unknown-xx7ft I agree with this all the way.
I still wonder why after 20 years this hasn't happened yet
Truly a shame this game didn't have full voice acting. The VAs are simply spectacular and deserve a chance to stretch their legs.
Fully voice acting any ace attorney game is already quite the challenge though. How many lines for each character? A million?
@@juliogomesdesouza9035 True, though in my opinion I believe it's less a problem of "can the VAs do it" and more a problem of "can Capcom afford to have the VAs do it". There are plenty of games with _lots_ of voice acting (Mass Effect, for example, which depending on how you play is, like, 80% talking sometimes not even getting into background chatter) but those games have Triple A budgets while most Ace Attorney games... do not. Even the later ones which have way bigger budgets than the Phoenix Trilogy (where all the voice acting was done by members of the staff to save money) still don't have big enough budgets to afford to pay voice actors for the amount of lines they'd have to say.
@@BackSet Nah, full voice acting would be annoying imo.
If they were to have fully voiced lines, I'd want it to be done like the Professor Layton games. Mainly using the blip sound effects, but fully voiced when important plot points come up.
Danganronpa did it, so could Ace Attorney if they wanted to. Hades, an indi game has tons of voice acting
The second "Yes" got me laugh.
To be honest Ryunosuke looks like Apollo. They are both very nervous in in their first cases.

An interesting thing about Susato is that when she's speaking japanese in game she will say Naruhodo-san but uses Mr Naruhodo when speaking english.
Naruhodo-san shows up in dialogue, but only when she’s talking so that others can hear.
Same with Ryunosuke, he calls her Miss Susato in english but Susato-san in japanese, that way you kinda get when they are speaking english in the context of the game
Oh that’s very interesting! I’d try to look out for points when the characters would supposedly “switch languages” in the text.

@@anthonydeadman Well, the fan translation uses "Ryuu," and it came first, so that would explain why.
The VAs for Ryunosuke, Kazuma, and especially Susato do such a good job of blending both their Japanese and British accents.
Ryunosuke and Kazuma have Japanese accents? I don't hear it. Even the JP names they say sound like there are spoken by non-native JP speakers. Kazuma says Auchi as Ouchie and not Ah-oo-chi as a native JP speaker would. There's a subtle difference between the two (not so subtle to trained ears though) and Kazuma's pronunciation clearly leans towards the foreign end. So these two have wholly Brit accents to my ears. Susato's the only one who has a perfect blend.
@@vspirit I believe the trio all have voice actors of Japanese descent, specifically I’m pretty sure Susato’s VAs first language was Japanese, however I haven’t checked that fact in a bit

Does Stronghart not have a voiced line? That's pretty surprising, especially considering how often you see him throughout the games. You'd think he'd have a voiced line about how he's running late for another meeting, and we only have 5 min and 22 seconds of his time xD
SPOILERS FOR DG2

Van Zieks' hold it is almost never used lol. I think it's used only twice, maybe 3 times. Also, there's a ton of unused hold it's
oh so am I not crazy when saying shamspere's "hold it" isn't actually audible in game even though he does use the hold it speech bubble (twice afaik)
They did that a lot. For some reason in one of the cases, Gregson has a voiced "objection" or "hold it", but in a much more important scene where it is clear he said it, that one ISN'T voiced.

I think in the case of the voice clips, the localisers were probably sent all of the files by Capcom Japan, and saw all of the characters which had clips recorded, even if they went unused. So they probably wanted to get all of them done just in case.
Susato's voice is good, a mix of a British accent with some Japanese pronunciations

Herrlock Sholmes's english VA is very suits him. Y'know, *BRITISH*
We need a Great Ace Attorney anime, these voices can't go to waste
Even if we got one, by the time it was ready for a dub, they'd probably have to recast people anyway. Its the nature of anime productions taking so much time. And they can't just delay until every actor is ready to reprise.
@@Teknanam not to mention if Funimation did it, they would recast to American VA's. GAA have British VA's, so it would have to use American VA just like Dragon Quest Your Story, since that movie, unlike the rest of the Dragon Quest franchise which uses British VA's, uses American VA's
It will be my wish of life, to see TGAA got anime adaptation. Seriously the story and character design are amazing. I start to hope they also will make live action. But getting anime is already challenging enough. I think it will be great if TGAA would get more audience, not just from gamer or VN lovers
@@ejelecflametails6657 well that’s easy. Have the dub be done in Europe. I’m American, but I’d love to see more authentic British dubs outside of Xenoblade, Dragon Quest, and TGAA.
Hmm no studios will do that since the game already has anime cutscenes.
I was almost expecting Ryu to have an American accent. I'm glad he got a british accent, makes sense since he would learn British English expecting to be in England and would be surrounded by others with that accent

I’m playing these games for the first time myself. I tried emulating Ace Attorney one, but stopped after Case 3 mostly due to irl stuff not giving me enough time (and I eventually forgot). The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles is the first AA game I’ve ever owned, and, if you exclude my early AA1 attempt, the first Ace Attorney game I’ve ever played. As of this writing, I have just finished the second case of TGAA1.
@@paperluigi6132 Have fun! You're in for a wild ride. TGAA duology has been my favorite pair of AA games in a long time. When in doubt, press everything and save often. The fluff dialogue is often as good as from the mandatory ones.
I can understand for the first game. It's a classic and a great game in its own regard, but it is one of those things that does show its age for new players or on replay. The first trilogy were made back in 2001-2004 for the GBA and were ported to DS by 2005, which has the bonus 5th case for PW1. So the writing in the first 4 were from an earlier time before Shu Takumi really got into the swing of things and sometimes the contradictions feel iffy or weird. But it's not a knock on it overall, since the story definitely still holds up and the cast is quite lovable (for the most part, lol). It's just little arbitrary things during gameplay that can feel stiff or confusing if you don't know what the game is leading you next.
Iris's lines in the part where she mimicked Susato sounded so natural. I love the voice-acting

They missed a golden opportunity by not casting Damien Slash as Sholmes

I did the exact same the first time I played through the fan translation of GAA1. I was really hoping they'd cast Zeke's VA for Sholmes and Nia's VA for Gina, I think they would have been perfect (and on the same note I wish Gina had more spoken lines, obviously).
IMO Sholmes' official VA sounds too serious for the character considering how childish and scatterbrained he is as a character, that's why I find him so similar to Zeke; he's immature and playful but he can also be serious (and even a good mentor and friend) when the need arises.

@@davisbowe8668 I guess they think dubbed all voice straight cost less time than categorize which voice is unused AND dubbed the voice after. Most of them just a speech bubbles after all.
In the additional content (I think it was in the digital art book) they mentioned that case 2-1, the one with Ryutaro and the murder of A.
