was a little sad this scene wasn't in the anime, so! yeah. this took me less than a week to finish (i started the 'script' last thursday?) which is v surprising to me. brainrot truly runs deep
i WAS gonna do sound editing for this, but it felt a little weird to have it since they're like. not Saying Things Aloud. pacing might feel a little off, which. Not Ideal :')
took some creative liberties w the dialogue since it wouldn't flow as well (i know it makes sense in the context of the game but sometimes they talk about things that they already know and i just [shakes them] YOU ALREADY KNOW THIS). i wasn't going to include the hug, but the scene didn't feel resolved leaving the dialogue as is, and including all the dahlia conversation would mean this video would get a lot longer. hence the slight alteration. but yes

I was super disappointed when in the game Phoenix said that he'd "hug it out" with Edgeworth and then he never did. Thank you for this absolute gem I love this.
In the original Japanese, he says "I want to hug you, but you are so full of pride..." or something like that.

It's too frustrating that Phoenix doesn't actually say that last line "You're stronger than you think etc." out loud. He only thinks it to himself. He was this close to getting through to him - this close. Edgeworth was in an unusually honest mood that moment. He wanted to let Phoenix in, he just couldn't quite bring himself to fully open up. If Phoenix had just pushed a little more. If he had just said what he thought. Out. Loud...

Something that I don’t think a lot of people notice when playing these games is that sometimes people can hear phoenix’s internal dialogue, and will respond to it, which means that his “internal” dialogue isn’t always just his thoughts, more like him muttering to himself. If that’s the case, then who knows? Maybe edgeworth did hear Phoenix
@@Candy_Mandy Its also that im pretty sure wright displays his emotions all over his face, to what he was thinking. For example, when wright thought grossberg and redd white were lovers. I think he showed a look of triumph, meaning for grossberg to guess his thoughts

@@cloverlovania Mia maybe can, but a lot of other people are shown reacting to Phoenix's inner monologue as if he said it out loud (Gumshoe even). It's a running gag but it also implies that Phoenix has a terrible poker face

Phoenix really is the only one who can ease Edgeworth's pain. He's the only one who understands him this deeply. And Edgeworth was able to do the same before and after the events of Apollo Justice. They are each other's best ally and friend in the world. Both of them wouldn't have gotten where they are now without each other. The love is real! I don't care if it will remain platonic or not(i doubt it, but i'm an undying shipper), but one can't simply ignore the beauty of their relationship!

this is my favourite genre of ship, when they undeniably love each other so deeply that you don't even need to headcanon them being in a romantic relationship because the canon has already hit all the emotional depths without romance being involved (i've only encountered two such ships, the other one is jayvik from arcane)

I love that Phoenix takes lots of little steps towards the Edgeworth. Like he’s a deer that’s easy to scare with prospects of physical intimacy. Phoenix seems like the kind of person to communicate comfort with physical touch to me, and is aware that he has to be careful about it when initiating it with Edgeworth. It makes me sob profusely.
He wanted to touch Edgeworth immediately but thought better of it.

I love the fact that this is ALL canon dialogue. I just wished they had hugged in the game as well! Friends or not (or more) their dynamic is one of my favorites in any game I’ve ever played. Great job! :)
one year late but they did hug! at the end of bridge to the turnabout, Larry wanted to join a supposed group hug that had Franziska, Maya, Miles and Phoenix in it. not a narumitsu-only hug but they WERE in the same group hug!
bridge to turnabout was absolutely GRADE A for so many reasons one of them being phoenix didn't leave edgeworth on the ground the second time he had a panic attack

From what I've heard, they didn't include the earthquake thing because at the time the anime was airing, there was a great earthquake in Japan and so they chose not to depict it in Turnabout Goodbyes. There's even a tweet by Shu Takumi confirming that, but I can't find it right now
@ I still think it was a bad decision, maybe they should've put a warning at the start of the episode or something? It removes a HUGE part of Miles' character, not to mention the fact that in Bridge, they changed the story to give Gumshoe the fault of letting Iris escape

Friends are there for you in your most vulnerable of times. It's no secret that Edgeworth is haunted by that day so much despite his calm demeanor. I like how in the anime, it fleshed out Phoenix, Larry, and Miles' friendship, especially on that day when Miles had to leave his home after his father's death. I really wish the anime had kept his fear of earthquakes.

right i missed that so much from the games! like, they went *there* with goodbyes, the entire case was just a trauma dump about Miles' life... and then they just left it at that :/ c'mon capcom you can't give us a mentally scarred character and a guy whose entire storyline is "saving" said mentally scarred character and NOT give us at least one real good hurt/comfort scene like this.

@@Y-E-R-I yeah, but all the things in this animatic that really mattered and helped comfort Miles were only in Phoenix's head in canon. by "dealing with it on an emotional level" we mean showing Miles actually open up about his trauma and have someone be there for him. and this is like, *almost there*, spiky boi should have just said that one line out loud and actually acted on that urge to hug him. one of the main themes of the trilogy is Phoenix saving Miles anyway, but for a storyline centered around such an intense relationship they show the actual relationship awfully rarely, the most we got was one of them calling the other "dear and indispensable friend" and even that wasn't to his face...

This is so beautiful and heartwarming!!! thank you for giving us the satisfaction canon denied us in this scene (not pictured: me yelling at the game screen when wright didn't hug edgeworth, or even say his affirmations out loud...!!!). Very sweet animation, and the expressions are so on point!!! And all those non verbal details like phoenix's hand twitching and miles' defensive posture...!!! Amazing job!!!
Wonderful job! This feels perfectly in line with the way they are written to interact within the games, and makes a beautiful scene that I would have loved to see in game.

To be honest, I don't ship Phoenix and Edgeworth, I feel like they're just friends since childhood and it's a nice relationship (although I understand why they ship them).
