Oh man, this took longer than expected. Both the dress and this video, my god. I doomed myself a bit by using new software and failing to properly manage files, so this was a giant disorganized mess by the end of it. I finally had it ready to go last week before discovering some audio issues, which still aren't fully fixed but are (believe it or not) improved, so I apologize for that! Whatever comes out next will learn from the mistakes in this one, and hopefully come out sooner.
Regardless of the lies your brain tells you, and the BS the algorithm feeds you...releasing things on a specific timeline is about the overlords making their money, quality and enjoyment of the audience be damned. This is art. And it's finished art. The the creator is pleased with and overall enjoyed creating. That's amazing. Thank you.
THIS IS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! I could totally see a aristocrat welcoming guests into her home with a smile pretending her look is effortless even though the gown and her hair and makeup took hours to adorn with the classic exchange: "Oh my gosh who are you wearing?" "This? Oh it's the latest Angela Clayton." *Gasps and squeals from her guests as they gush over the gorgeous frills and beading.* Seriously, this is astounding work! I know the struggle of being a perfectionist and it's so damn hard when you are your own worst critique, but please know we don't see the imperfections. I'm sure famous gorgeous gowns from history were also made by people who could knit pick their work to pieces because they are so aware of the faults no one else can see. Hell, I'm sure there are artists who would be turning over in their grave if they knew which pieces of theirs ended up in a museum or preserved because they personally couldn't stand the project. Being aware of your own mistakes is how we grow and hone our craft, but please please please remember that if dwelling on a mistake, or the should-a could-a would-as, is no longer constructive towards the next project... it's just mental self-flagellation. And that's unfortunately only a line you can recognize. Sending so much love and support. No matter where you are in mental health journey (or any journey really), as long as you're trying to make today better than yesterday - you're doing fantastic! ❤ -Sincerely from someone who has always looked up to you and your skills, and found you to be such an inspiration. PS: Idc the video was late. I can speak for almost everyone when I say that I love your content and will watch regardless of when it's posted.
One of the things I appreciate about your videos, Angela, is that you don't shy away from extra steps, detailed work, and going back to fix mistakes in order to get an final product that you like. Although I haven't seen a fancy dress since my wedding (8 years ago) that attitude always encourages me to keep plugging away at the challenging parts of my current projects.
As someone who is currently battling chronic depression (and other health issues), I understand and respect why you sew at your own pace. I have a new sewing room that I just cannot find the energy or desire to set up...😢. You give me hope
I will also add. Once it is set up. You can no longer do two things. *keep it perfect *avoid your ‘to do’ list. It is better to leave it alone until you can’t resist. Which is when you have both the energy and mood.
Please please please never apologize for taking more time and/or making mistakes and learning from them AS YOU MAKE MAGIC. What you made is genuinely impossible for the rest of us mortals and a form of incredible artistry that amazes us. I am truly stunned by your work!
Me: oh that's a really pretty fabric Angela: and this is faille + lace overlay + velvet appliques + more sequins and beads + lace gathered down and also beaded and sequined... Me: ... oh... that's not just a pretty patterned fabric!!!!!
What I love most is how you push yourself with every project!! You are an excellent designer with so many mastered techniques that’s obvious. The fact that you want to do really hard things and new things is sooooo inspiring!!
My (very crafty and sewing interested) family is captive audience because I have control of the TV while they bake cookies. The squeal of delight I made when I saw you uploaded just as I was looking for something new to watch was real
I was worrying about you a day or two ago, wondering how you were doing. So nice to see a video from you pop up in my feed, and WHAT a video! This gown is nothing less than STUNNING. I believe it is my favorite of all of your sparkly, over-the-top, beaded, sequined masterpieces. I’m saving this video in my library for future inspiration. So glad to see that you are back, and I urge you not to stress yourself out with arbitrary deadlines. We love your videos whenever you are able to put them out.
Gorgeous fabric! I honestly thought this was a Christmas project because the red swirls made me think of poinsettia flowers - in which case you're early, well done! Also, thank you for being open about your mental health journey. It's encouraging to see successful creators being open about the fact that they're not always okay and that that's part of life. Massive hugs and I hope you continue upwards!
This is one of the most beautiful things you’ve made. If I had this in my life I would wear it and never take it off. You should be so proud deadline and skirt or not. This is truly stunning and I’m excited to see more from you. I hope you are doing well and it makes me so happy to hear you are finding joy in your projects again 🩵💙🩷
i am glad you are taking more time between uploading and making projects to just work with your own mindspace, you are such a talented person! i always love to see your works, eventhough they may not be 'historically correct' but you use what you know to make it work, and it always looks beautiful!
You are, as always, an artist. That dress is insane. Nobody would know the skirt could have been something else because it looks perfect. Plus the appliqués all look like poinsettias to me so it is very Xmas-y!!
Im soooo happy you are starting to film again! you are my comfort chanal that i always come back to watch older videos when i feel stressed. I cant wait to see more videos that you are creating!
Holy handwork, Batman! Absolutely stunning! Watched ever second. I was so happy to see you had posted a new video, and it was definitely worth the wait!
I love how the "bow" turned out!! From making bows for dance and theatre I've learned that bows almost never look best when tied rather than shaped and sewn in a "bow shape". I'm proud of you. Good work with this project. As always, I'm cheering for you.
Angela, the robe is wonderfully gorgeous! It must have taken more hours than I can imagine. And I'm glad you're feeling better. I've been there, and had many medication changes. It took forever, but we got there. So glad you're getting close as well. Hugs from Minnesota.
The gown is lovely, rich, and fabulous. I hope it eases your depression and brings you much joy and happiness that you can create such a beautiful garment. Most of us don't have the skill or patience to accomplish anything like it.
This is just stunning Angela! I could not be happier that you're in a better place and able to complete projects even if the timeline got messy. It was worth the wait!
I was planning on watching something else, but when I saw that you posted a video I immediately dropped all of my plans and watched the whole thing! This turned out amazing! and I'm glad you got enjoyment out of making it because that is the most important part! Looking forward to whatever you post next!
Welcome back! It's good to see you. You look good, and I mean that. I know that Life likes to use you as a punching bag. But, you aren't looking like a punching bat at the moment, so I'm counting that as a win. This video was worth waiting for every ruffle, lace, sequin, bead, and pearl. Nobody can bling up a project better than you do it. I have missed your commentary, your personal editing stye, and your over-the-top-but-absolutely-necessary embellishments.
Gurl! Pausing to commiserate over the melting fabric and loss of all your hours of work. A devastating blow! It happens to us all, but it still hurts every time! Congratulations on pushing through and not giving up. You’re a rock star!
I always look forward to your videos Angela, yoube been inspiring me really since I was a gighschooler and now I'm an actual theatrical costumes designer with a national award and I have to take you for helping me find my passion!
I learn so much every time you post a video. Thank you for sharing your entire creative process, mistakes and all, it is very reassuring, entertaining and just a joy to observe.
The dress is just beautiful. It looks heavy, as in, sturdy and well built with good materials. You have an excellent flair for modification as needed in the moment.
I'm so glad you're back! I love seeing your creations! I'm always mesmerized by sewing videos. It's like magic. You take fabric, sew it, and boom a gorgeous garment is made haha
I am delighted to learn that other people measure "time to complete a project" in terms of "content consumed". I once described a very challenging knitting pattern as "it took me a whole episode of Call the Midwife to do one row!" Another time I needed to finish knitting a vest (don't start knitting a Christmas present on December 22nd!) and picked the longest bit of content I had on hand - Fellowship of the Ring. That movie is way longer than I remembered but I needed every second to finish that vest!
Order some 6mm pearls!! 😊 This is so incredibly stunning, but what else could it be, since its made by the Goddess of costume herself, Angela Clayton!! It is so so so good to see a video from you. :) I wouldn't care if it was 5 months late, or posted in the middle of summer, this video is (I'm still watching) so much fun to watch as I do some hand sewing, too! :) I think I need to use sequins more often, they're so sparkly ✨️ 😍
What's amazing is not just that you design and create these patterns yourself, but that you identify AND resolve all the issues while you are working on them! A lot of people would give up, or else not know how to solve the problems (or not even spot the problems). You truly are talented (and patient, and pay attention to detail)... and also clever and quick-witted as you describe the whole process. You have an enormous amount to be proud of!! Best wishes from a deeply impressed subscriber! xx
So happy you took the extra time for the embellishments! One of those things that seems quick in your head until you have to bead hundreds of yards of design. Gorgeous! And ruffles!! So happy for the ruffles.
How gorgeous! As a relatively new sewist who struggles to actually start projects, I can't express how much your videos inspire me to pick up a needle and thread. I feel like I learn so much from you about why certain elements of construction are necessary
Here to like (immediately) that there is another video from you but alt tabbing because I'm cooking and I don't want to miss a thing ❤ yayyy for clayton
I personally really love the comparative narrowness of the skirt! Can’t wait to see the entire ensemble complete. Was JUST checking your channel to see if you were going to post a Christmas project, and was spoiled with this video!
This looks stunning!!! And you can say the color is a bit Christmasy if you squint so great timing :) Honestly, the sleeves are amazing and the hand beading is worth the time investment. The hand beading really added a lot of polish and pizzazz to what could otherwise have looked costumy. Great work.
I was so excited to see a new video from Angela I immediately clicked on it and did not realize it was an hour long until 30 min in, welp it was a good way to spend a Sunday
It's so sparkly! I love it! Every completed step is a victory, I think. So you've been absolutely victorious with this tea gown. Looking forward to what you share next :)
Seasonal greetings and loving admiration from another Angela (from The Netherlands). Thank you for posting this pearly, sparky pointsetta (that’s what the motif reminds me of) dress. It’s an incredible piece of art. ❤ I can unfortunately no longer sew due to illness and disability, but you make my seamstress heart sing with every video you upload. As a fellow lover of sparkly beadwork this dress and all the details were breathtaking and well worth the wait.
Absolutely gorgeous. I have just started to learn to sew. I'm about a year in and I am just amazed at your skill and your patience. I'm glad you're feeling a little better and doing something like this and staying positive is a feat.
You are beautiful. Your work is beautiful. The gown is stunning. I can't imagine trying to contort this kind of artistry into deadlines!! Maybe somehow you could be free from a deadline and just work on your next idea whenever it comes and however long it takes. Also, remember to order upholstery thread. ♥
It's so pretty and magical!!! ✨ I've been thinking about the bodice almost every day since you posted in on Instagram! The end result is just wonderful!
I’m an avid knitter and infrequent sewist (last sewing project almost 10 years ago) and I don’t know how TH-cam knew I would love every minute of this video but I loved it! I love how you always go ALL IN ❤I love your work
All we really care about is seeing you and knowing you are well whenever we are so lucky. Oh and the beautiful things you make too! 🫶🏾
We dont deserve u queen❤
Angela, it takes as long as it takes. We will wait.
This is NOT a Halloween dress!! It's a BEAUTIFUL Christmas dress! And just in time. It is SOO pretty.. LOVE IT!!
I thought it was for Christmas too ,when she shared pictures on Instagram. My device shows it as more red than orange. It’s beautiful regardless.

A sequin star?
The little, time consuming details in this gown are so cool!
You’re forever the OG to me! I LOVED seeing your patterns in mccalls!!! Love from Canada, so great to see you again
It is so good to see you again Angela. This is beautiful as always.

Hello bonjour from France .
Ça fait plaisir de te revoir sur TH-cam et de voir tes belles créations .
Merci beaucoup.
Thank you 😀
The dress is just beautiful. It looks heavy, as in, sturdy and well built with good materials. You have an excellent flair for modification as needed in the moment.
The amount of work that goes into these projects is astounding! Gorgeous results as always.
I'm so glad you're back! I love seeing your creations! I'm always mesmerized by sewing videos. It's like magic. You take fabric, sew it, and boom a gorgeous garment is made haha
Im so glad you’re back! We missed your content so much!!
Beautiful! I can see the pumpkin inspiration but I instantly saw poinsettia and gold for Christmas. Making the project the perfect inbetween.
Absolutely STUNNING!! So glad to have you back. We've missed you. X
Thank you for being adorable and for reminding waxed thread exists
Goodness, this turned out beautiful! I know it took an eternity to do all the beading work, but it's so worth it.
The amount of detail is stunning! You are incredible 😮❤
holy crap that is amazing... you did a beautiful job... thank you for sharing your talent with us all... hugs from Dallas...

I am amazed at your patience and perseverance!!! And your passion! Well done!!!
Hi Angela, it's so nice to see you again. You know I've missed you, all the creations you make and even your face and your voice.
Absolutely gorgeous. I have just started to learn to sew. I'm about a year in and I am just amazed at your skill and your patience. I'm glad you're feeling a little better and doing something like this and staying positive is a feat.

ANGELA IS BAAAAAACK
That is a work of art. It literally looks like it belongs in a museum!
I love the dress too! I'm so glad you are (mostly) happy with the outcome!
It's so pretty and magical!!! ✨ I've been thinking about the bodice almost every day since you posted in on Instagram! The end result is just wonderful!
This dress
is so lovely!
I’m an avid knitter and infrequent sewist (last sewing project almost 10 years ago) and I don’t know how TH-cam knew I would love every minute of this video but I loved it!
That border between the edge of the skirt and the appliqué..my mouth was hanging open. So beautiful!
And that collar!
Lovely lovely work! Thank you!
The gown is absolutely gorgeous! You are incredible❤
So glad you are back!
Absolutely gorgeous! The beading is just incredible!!!

Was just thinking of you yesterday! Fantastic work as usual 🎉
What a great holiday gown!
The gown is so beautiful1 Thank you for sharing your creativity
Yeah! You did it! It turned out beautiful. Take care of you first, than you can do what you love.😊
This is amazing!! You are so talented ❤
