Nice demo of the Royer 121! Not many videos about it despite its popularity! I can't really tell the difference between both of them probably coz I'm using cheap earphones, both sound great though!
Hey! Great demo! I would’ve loved to hear both at the same time. There’s a mic clip that is made to fit both mics to make sure there are no phasing issues!
Thanks Ernesto! I’ve actually got one of those, just didn’t think to do it! But next time I do an A/B I’ll make sure to. Actually I’ve made a second video where I’m trying to get the best tone using these mics and at one point I blend the signals. Just haven’t made the video yet hehe
@@TomHannay Because i don't like the R121, i have to recommand another mic ? Strange point of view. Anyway, avoid any ribbon mic for guitar, or if you really want one, goes for cheap one, like M260.
@@TomHannay Of course i have. Dynamics are great for that job, SM57 is the classic and if you search something more polite, SM7b. If you search alternativ characters, try a m88, an e906, a pr20, an i5 or a md421. Even a 214XLS could do a good job on that. You have to search for signature and definition/percussion. Not a mic that eat your signal because of a poor design.

Ha bad earphones will do that! It’s our job to try to make things sound good on shitty speakers so if it sounds good for you then I’ll say thank you 😊
57 just sounds better, it's weird you have to pay 1.3k for optional 57 enhancer mic

Yeah! The Royer is a great mic, I love it. But if I didn’t have that mic I would still be happy with the SM57 :)
R121 is a shitty piece of mud overpriced and hyped, as usual.

@@dafxtone you don’t have to say anything, however you called this mic a piece of mud so I naturally assumed you had a mic that you prefer for guitar

Yeah, the price is too high. Ribbons are tricky to use, but once you mastered it, 121 is a very nice option tonally and takes eq better than others
