Happy to report I have had Reed chase a tornado in my town and my house is still standing 😂 I was incredibly grateful to have his live coverage that day.

After being in the middle of a rather big storm here in the Scotland with over 100mph winds I have a lot of respect for those who ride out cat 5 hurricanes. Just look up storm Arwen, my area took a big hit, to be honest 4 years later thiers still more damage waiting to be cleared up.
Ya got that right. My husband and I were stationed on Guam, both in the AF in 1976 when Super Typhoon Pamela hit. Winds measured 165 mph. Or more. It took 16 hours to go over. I remember stepping outside when the eye went right over us. Winds had decreased to 70 mph and no rain. Bizarre. No kidding. Then the real destruction began. You can read about it.
@@kathleensue1 I was on the eye of storm Arwen, Went from 110mph to dead still and quiet, was the oddest experience, At the time I was still a smoker had to go out side to smoke the power in the wind was impressive to feel. UK is getting more and more storms like it, with storm surges, Last one hit last October which brought costal flooding much like what Reed filmed.
And minivans in the 2nd story of the Edgewater Mall. I worked South of the tracks afterwards and we had to get us id badges to go thru military checkpoints to even get to that side. Debris piles were two to 3 stories tall and there were hundreds of refrigerated truck trailers were the bodies were kept. 😢😢imagine seeing a whole huge casino that floated across the highway intact placed in the center of the road

Just think how this traveled from basically the other side of the planet and how long it’s been a storm for and everything it’s been through/including countries… just so crazy when you think about it

Here in the UK we've not had storms like you guys but the weather in general has been atrocious since the end of January. We are well into summer and it has been low pressure systems and weather fronts one after the other. Wet, windy and not very warm most of the time.

He got out of the water and got on the bridge. The other end of the bridge is flooded out too though so he and the other chasers that were down there are all going to be stuck on the bridge for a while. Plenty of room on the bridge though so they're alright

Yep. Lost a couple of Penn Battle II fishing reels after the first kayak trip out. They only got wet going out of the surf and coming back in. We even rinsed them off with fresh water. But the gears and bearings never worked the same again 😢 lol

I've been thru countless hurricanes. Each storm is different but the worst have been Irma, Ian, and Charley (2004) because my house took a direct hit from their eyewalls. Those strong wind gusts are something else.
I am sure you professionals have a good sense for what is under that storm surge, but I hope no one copies you. One of the reasons it's not great to experiment with your safety in a hurricane is that emergency services might not be able to get to you. Stay safe out there!
This is why I would never live by the ocean. And where I live in Indiana we haven’t had a tornado in 3 years so I’m good where I am lol. Ocean is beautiful though
Life insurance won't save your life. Even the Coast Guard warns that you are on your own during a storm surge. I fear posting this kind of adventure will end poorly.
My family in Galveston and Houston said it’s not as bad as everyone is saying. He said most of the weather people were right up on the Ocean. Yet at the same time my fellow Texans down there are use to this and when it hit it was a CAT1/Tropical Storm. Yet I get TH-cam, gotta make it look crazier than it is. Yet my family says all is fine, a few roof shingles off, some coastal flooding of course, and some small trees down but that’s it. The wind in the video makes it seem so much worse. If it was that bad they wouldn’t be out there by the ocean. Yet… Hurricane season will probably be bad this year. This one just wasn’t as bad as it was made out to be when it hit Texas. My fellow Special Forced Gpa use to drive my cousins and I on top of the piers in Galveston in his truck during Cat2-3 Hurricanes. The piers would be swaying with us on it and he was laughing. Yet yeah this wasn’t bad to Texas standards. Yet it’s all for TH-cam so I get it, gotta keep people entertained. Just funny in every live chat everyone is saying every single chase or storm is Armageddon when it’s not. I do respect what Reed does very much though, the man is actually a scientist and not just some guy with a camera and car calling himself a chaser like 95% of the TH-camrs on here. Got people calling themselves chasers when they just read a radar, watch other chasers, and edit videos. Most of you could read radars and edit if you watched a TH-cam video on how to do it. Yet, Reed is truly a professional and definitely knows his stuff. So never hate on him or Connor. There’s just allot of guys out there doing this and they have no clue but pretend to do so. Then they kiss the real chasers a**es so they can get the clicks. Also if you have “chasers” constantly asking for donations all the time, which many do, well then you know they’re not doing it for the right reasons. They’re doing it for clicks and to be known. Hate to be the honest person here but it’s true. They’re doing it to be TH-camrs and not passionate scientists. You’ll never see Reed asking for money because he does it for the science, not for the clicks. Respect to him and rant over 😂
I don't think it's anyone over hyping anything. A lot of meteorological work is calculated guessing. When you have a storm that cranked from a tropical storm to a cat 5 overnight the likelihood of it cranking all the way up again is high. Caution with severe weather is important. I agree that the fear mongering for clicks is bad but it's important to take these things seriously. I'm sure it's a good memory for you, but as a parent the idea of my kid being on a pier during a hurricane is nuts to me.

Everyone talking about the salt water damage to the truck when Reed literally drives into tornadoes ripping chunks off of his vehicles and goes through windshields like they're toilet paper. I don't think he cares about a little water damage. Not to mention the millions of vehicles of the people who live and work in the area sitting in their driveways/parking lots getting submerged by the same flooding. This is Reed's job, vehicle damage is the same to him as wear and tare on your tools at work. Eventually they have to be repaired and/or replaced.
Cost of doing business. Treat windshields as consumables. TBH all it would need would be a thorough pressure washing, sooner the better. Maybe re-grease the ignition wiring. Think about cars up north, driving on salted snow mush for 4 months...

I live in The Woodlands, TX 20 min north of Houston and Beryl didn't seem super horrifying from where we were but we're also and hour and 20 from Galveston. That is until we were hit by the eye and surrounding storm. Our back deck roof flew up on our house roof and then swirled around outside down into our backyard and our huge tree in the back came down and just missed our house. We were lucky, our neighbors around us not so much. Trees down on houses, cars, etc. Loss of life was 19 I think end counting. People don't understand the flooding even though they have lived here for their entire lives and just drive right into flood waters. It's amazing to me the lack of care some people have during these storms. Glad y'all are ok!
I fell short of being able to chase this one. Watching you live in those surge waters was wild! I learned a lot seeing it stack like that. I've avoided surge locations when chasing. Stay safe, always chase!

He got out of the water and got on the bridge. The other end of the bridge is flooded out too though so he and the other chasers that were down there are all going to be stuck on the bridge for a while. Plenty of room on the bridge though so they're alright

That water is amazingly corrosive to metal. I once cast a brand new fishing hook into the Gulf and within an hour it showed severe corrosion.

Everyone talking about the salt water damage to the truck when Reed literally drives into tornadoes ripping chunks off of his vehicles and goes through windshields like they're toilet paper. I don't think he cares about a little water damage. Not to mention the millions of vehicles of the people who live and work in the area sitting in their driveways/parking lots getting submerged by the same flooding. This is Reed's job, vehicle damage is the same to him as wear and tare on your tools at work. Eventually they have to be repaired and/or replaced.
Cost of doing business. Treat windshields as consumables. TBH all it would need would be a thorough pressure washing, sooner the better. Maybe re-grease the ignition wiring. Think about cars up north, driving on salted snow mush for 4 months...
I would be extremely anxious anywhere near the coast, let alone on the coast!!!! The Extreme does this on an off day!!!!

I live in The Woodlands, TX 20 min north of Houston and Beryl didn't seem super horrifying from where we were but we're also and hour and 20 from Galveston. That is until we were hit by the eye and surrounding storm. Our back deck roof flew up on our house roof and then swirled around outside down into our backyard and our huge tree in the back came down and just missed our house. We were lucky, our neighbors around us not so much. Trees down on houses, cars, etc. Loss of life was 19 I think end counting. People don't understand the flooding even though they have lived here for their entire lives and just drive right into flood waters. It's amazing to me the lack of care some people have during these storms. Glad y'all are ok!
I fell short of being able to chase this one. Watching you live in those surge waters was wild! I learned a lot seeing it stack like that. I've avoided surge locations when chasing. Stay safe, always chase!
