      @@Vassmotorsports Yes working a new project, trying to figure out how to remove my starter motor on a 3.0L when I'm not left handed and have a very restrictive bulkhead surrounding it but am likely also going to have replace the exhaust manifold as well. BTW that interior is awesome, wish I had someone local who could something like that but also it would cost a fortune I'm sure, more than my boat is worth for someone who wasn't your brother and I don't think you went "overboard" with the tufted diamond either.

    this is why i love a new out board engine,,, they are quieter and have a lot more power these new style engines unlike the old ones were very loud and slow, but no bellow boot to replace and they do have a large problem on charging up a battery, V 8 engines have a super charging system unlike the low charging system on a out board system so bring many extra battery if you are smart, Haha,,,

      yes outboard motors have came a long way for sure but im a poor man and cant afford the newer outboards especially something that would have 300+ HP. so ill just stick to my good old Mercruiser set ups. The outboard by itself costs more than my whole boat , any that i own haha. plus ive been working on small block chevy 350s since i was a teenager so i can work on these boats with my eyes closed thats another reason i love these so much lol. i couldn't think of having to have someone work on something for me and do everything for myself as i said im poor plus i dont trust anyone to do the work for me. you have to be really lucky to find a mechanic to trust ,thanks for watching Vassmotorsports and hope ya check out some of my other videos sometime

      my buddy that owns the boat picked the color and I also loved it when I seen it finished and 90% of people at the lakes love it every time they see it and ask who did it and will i do their interior haha , it looks better when its not under the carport and in the light but it does get hot when in sun to long lol. thanks for watching Vassmotorsports and hope ya check out some of my other videos sometime, good luck with your boat flappers

      @@Vassmotorsports There are some strange people about, but I have certainly never seen anything like it on another boat...I think for good reason.

    Thx! Good stuff. Here’s a question for you Merc experts: I have risers on my Merc 4.3 L inboard outboard. Do I need to replace the flappers on the alpha one Gen 2 outdrive as well as the flappers on the exhaust manifold?

    • @Vassmotorsports
      @Vassmotorsports  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      thank you and Thanks for watching Vassmotorsports and hope ya check out some of my other videos sometime, as seen in my video there is only one set of flappers below the elbo ,on each sides of the Y-pipe. they are not located anywhere else , thats how i knew these were bad when i removed the outdrive to do a gimbal bearing and seen the peices in the exhaust port blocking it , risers and manifolds rarely have to be changed in freshwater boats and last many years, but saltwater is very harmful on them and only last around 5 years or so sometimes , you can remove the elbo and look at the end of the riser for rust or to inspect condition of the riser , and of course if not properly winterized and freezing will crack manifolds

    I literally just found one sitting in the exact same spot blocking my exhaust. Was doing a simple gimball bearing. Tell us did it slund louder after?

    • @Vassmotorsports
      @Vassmotorsports  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Cant really say i could tell cause its underwater anyway and will push more out the two side ports if made all way back to shift lever , if caught up in main exhaust channel like the second piece was then its blocking all exhaust and has to make a performance difference especially at higher rpm. This is my brother's boat and had no idea it was like this until i pulled drive to do bearing and bellows because been many years since last set and gets used alot. Really need full video from first 30 seconds, where the flapper broke and fell down into the exhaust bellows.

    • @Vassmotorsports
      @Vassmotorsports  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I actually had no idea the flaps were even broken ,I was taking drive off to do the bellows and seen them so of course I had to fix them and luckily they came right out ,but was definitely blocking some exhaust flow ,thanks for watching Vassmotorsports and hope ya check out some of my other videos

  • @FabricShoffner

    Where did the broken portion of the flapper end up at? Blown out the exhaust?

    • @Vassmotorsports
      @Vassmotorsports  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      One piece came off both sides of the y-pipe ,I was able to remove both as seen in the video, they don't normally blow out the exhaust as they are to large and block the flow. Thanks for watching Vassmotorsports and hope ya check out some of my other videos

    end of riser elbow got corroded and has a crack,could you help with possible causes

    • @Vassmotorsports
      @Vassmotorsports  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      ive never actually seen an elbow in bad condition and some of mine are very old. (1987) ive seen the end of the manifold of course be rusted off ,I would assume its the top end that slides over the manifold? maybe a saltwater boat all its life and never flushed. should be able to get cheap replacement on Ebay. there are 2 different lengths depending on if you have a spacer between the riser and manifold, hope that helps ,thanks for watching Vassmotorsports and hope ya check out some of my other videos

    • @steveozombie
      @steveozombie 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Its just the cast iorn elbow only coming of the manifold ,but its cracked on the end with decay, also some creamy oil?

    • @Vassmotorsports
      @Vassmotorsports  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@steveozombie oh ok i thought you meant the elbow itself. sounds like you mean the riser on top of manifold, those will definitely rot sometimes especially saltwater boats , might need whole manifold replaced too ,and can leak back into cylinders, but that usually will rust cylinders or even hydrolock engine , if oil milkey you have bigger issues with intake gaskets or worse but more common cracked block under intake in valley from not winterizing properly
