The Retroad HD Genesis has HDMI, but it costs $68 to buy, probably because it costs them a lot to make them HD compatible. They might assume people won't buy such an expensive system, so they leave out HDMI to reduce production costs and increase sales due to the reduced price.
Thanks for subbing, Retro Revolutions. I do a few main shows here on the channel. The Chinese Knock Offs, general hardware reviews, Battle of the Ports, Life in Japan videos and the Retro Core show which is currently up to series 5. The next show will be focused on the master System.
Thanks for subscribing, Cesar Reyes. Quite a few people have asked me to make a list of the best Chinese knock offs. I will be doing one in the future once I get around to it. Hopefully soon.
Can't go wrong for only 20 quid. It's always a laugh if you get sent a piece of crap but it's cool to see some actual quality floating around the sewer lol Cheers mate
Yeah, its a good thing that the shells are being more solid last years. I recently bought 4 (probably) not working Famiclones from the 90s, and the build quality of those was almost as good as the real Playstation. I only got them because I needed some bodies for the Raspberry/Orange Pi projects for my friends. Many people did bought the fake NES mini here, so Im hoping to see lots of used ones soon
This void would probably not have been filled with quite so many cheap Chinese clones if Nintendo had made more of theirs in the first place. Their initial supply was woefully lacking.
LOL, I know this one... I think I collected all of the :D This one is still one of the best ones. Only nothing beats the Coooool Baby 600 in 1. What do you think which one is the best ? Or do you just hate them all ?
I'm not really a fan of anything that doesn't output RGB at least. I was brought up with RGB since 1987 so anything composite looks horrid to me. Even S-Video looks awful IMO. Still, out of these clone consoles I do like this one however I've yet to try the HDMI version of it.
I agree with the sentiment, though if you use an old fashioned TV, it makes composite and even RF look great. I have a 1985 Squareview with only RF, and I use a modulator to display composite, and to me it looks great on that TV, even PAL devices without any color. Hooray V hold :D
6:12 the music emulation for ninja gaiden is very fast and it's not good at all but overall the emulation is our usual NES console so what should i expect for the next battle of the ports?
It may have been fast because of a 50hz game playing on a 60hz system. Not sure if those values are correct, but someone else commented the same thing.
Hi again I just wanted to say you have a fantastic Channel please keep up the good work with all these Chinese knockoff I wanted to know I have a 500 in 1 NES classic knock off is it possible to add better games
At first glance. I was piss'd. No Mario3,Mega man 2. But with playing. It is amazing! Controls are good and tight! Library of games is outstanding!!! Thank you so much for your review! I already have had the best time. Keep up the good work. 👍👍
Hey, i've been seeing a channel making a load of gameplay videos on the next generation 7 inch x16 hendheld console, but nothing about how anything actually runs on the console. So definitely something i'd like to see added to the "to do" pile
I'm waiting forma the mini-dreamcast classic clone so I will be able to play the same nes games in a DC case. Actually, the console would fit in the controller
Best part of the nes clone videos are the tear downs. The case be great for a raspberry pi for a £score and you get two pads bargin. Chuck the guts in the bin
Hi again thank you for replying back I was wondering my system says unsupported mode on my TV how do I correct that problem with the system for the 620 in 1 famicom
I'm afraid you may not be able to. Some TVs are quite sensitive when it comes to digital video signals. For example my TVs work fine with this device but my video capture card doesn't like the signal.
Now that's a fantastic one :) we can't really be too mad that it looks like a SNES and only plays NES games, because by now we expect that to be the case with any knock off system. And for me the inability to save isn't much of a gripe since hardly any NES games save anyways if I remember correctly. And a lot use passwords. Some of the odd built in games are worth checking out. A really good one is "Pac Man3" as it's labeled on my NES Classic rip-off. It's an odd version of Pac Man where he's either yellow or green (green on mine, yellow on a review I saw on TH-cam), and he has eyes (wtf), six lives, and the stages are well done with randomly shifting color schemes. It has good potential for a Pac Man game, though it occasionally makes the levels invisible and has an imitation kill screen level hidden in there you may stumble across, which forces you to reset. Out of all the weirdo knockoff games, that's my favorite :)
It isn't I'm afraid. Well, maybe if you unsolder the flash chip on the board and replace it with another I guess you could but then there's the problem of knowing what format the roms are in.
You still need to find the ultimate snes mini clone Mark, They are so close to the original that you need to actually check the serial number, everything else is near identical.
@@RetroCore I was ripped off with one of those 1:1 SNES mini clones. The seller advertised it as an official one. The only way you can tell from the outside is from the barcode number (and the poor quality printing). Also there was one typo on the box flap "Now You're Playing With Supr Power". The menu is different than the official one and the games have so much lag it's unplayable.
I tried to order on FunyRoot but the UI is so horrible I couldn't even complete the order. Not motivated enough to drag out my PC atm. I wonder if the AliExpress one is the same?
Yeah, the funyroot site is a bit of a dog to navigate on a phone. I'm not sure about the ones on Aliexpress but the chances of them being the same is about 50%.
Somebody actually gave a crap when making this. Always a nice surprise when it comes to knockoffs to see attention to detail and quality construction. I recently bought something like this that was much more cheaply made and wish I'd bought this one instead.
That's it. The console looks fine. It's a good solid case. The emulation isn't perfect but for the price of 25 USD you are getting a lot of entertainment.
I have this strange suspicion that although they're using the same physical connectors as an official snes/nes mini, they're probably not electrically compatible. I would hazard to guess that they're normal nes controllers (just an ol' shift register). Making a famiclone compatible with the I2C *-mini controllers would probably take too many additional electronics for their budget.
That's possible but they do sell these controllers specifically as Nintendo Classic Controller replacements. that's not to say that these will also be wired up the same way but I could be possible.
Retro Core at times I'm overly cynical about cheap products. Don't get me wrong, I love hacking these things because they don't hurt the wallet much, but they do have a habit of cutting corners 😅
Very surprising that it uses the official modern style controller ports, and not the traditional Famicom or SNES ones. I still have doubts whether the pin layout is the same, or it's just for show. If you have any official Classic controllers you don't need (due to the risk of frying), you could try them here, or try these controllers on a real (S)NES classic (which you also don't need :D).
Have you seen those that are SNES for real? I've seen one in AliExpress sporting a Popeye in the box... In their photos some have a list of 16bit SNES games...
First the fake slot must be removed like a lid to reveal the true port. It "clicks" into the slot, and to remove it you must press a lever. So it doesn't come accidentally disconnected which is nice.
I say if you are making an NES/Famiclone either make it look unique, or like the actual system you are emulating, and not trying to pass it off as something it's not.
To bad no HDMI, but its quality stuff there, after many Crappy NES clone this is one of the good one out the market, btw Mark my Sister will go to Japan next December for her works, and I want ask her to buy me MicroSD coz I hear it's very cheap in Japan the problem is I don't know the price at Japan I only hear it at some news at website, that why I ask you, how much is MicroSD in Japan ? If you can please list it from 32gb to 256gb.
Micro SDs can vary in price depending on the brand. I sugest you look at Amazon Japan for a guide. Don't worry, you can type everything in English and it will still show up. You can even view the site in English thanks to the language toggle option - www.amazon.co.jp/
Same here 32gb is dirty cheap and I plan to upgrade it at least 64gb but if I can 128gb more cheaper at Japan I will choose that 128gb, thanks Mark I kind don't like use Amazon that much but I will try it.
They can but they don't bother. Someone once said it's because the Famicom was the first game system available in China so they all have a lot of nostalgia for it. Plus its easy to clone.
It may well be. I've never owned a real NES (Being from the UK you see. It wasn't that popular there) so I'm not really well up on how a NES should sound. A Mega Drive, Master System, SNES and PC Engine though I do know very well.
Someone needs to unsolder that flash chip and figure out whats on it. Maybe copy it to a larger chip and dump every nes game ever made onto it. Famiclones have better latency than phones and computers IMO so it would be worth while.
the sound emulation is a little fast....like always from these clones...ninja gaidem jaja doesnt sound like that in a real famicom or nes...a 35 years old machine ..chinese pirates still cant get it right
Chinese make those NES clones last 25 years… you could find them in Russia and other eastern countries, and they always were in price range for about 25-30 euros. They make NES clone and put it in the Sega genesis cheap made case 😂
Not bad at all? The Greens are grossly overblown in the Ninja Turtles Arcade Game. Dunno if you had the color settings up too high or what, but that looked like crap. In fact, the colors are just horrid all around. I hope that's either the display or your capture card and not the device itself, because that's just unacceptable.
When it comes to NES I haven't got a clue. Looked okay to me but then again I've never owned a real NES or Famicom. The video image was not touched so I guess that's what it will look like on anyone's TV.
It's fine with me because I can just turn down the color knob on my TV. Color problems are always something I can toss out the window with these devices. It doesn't take so much effort to just change a small setting temporarily.
Really? The quality was great to me. In fact, I recognize the Final Fight level music, which is the menu music from my NES Classic Mini ripoff, and it sounded perfect. I'm not sure what kind of Superman hearing you must have. And the colors looked fine too, perhaps a bit oversaturated, but the TV settings can fix that.
100% yes. Nintendo's patents on the Famicom / NES hardware are over so you can copy the machine. What is not legal though is bundling in all the ROMs and ripping off the SNES console and pad design.
I post links to practically every Chinese knock off I cover. The links are not paid for in any way. I bought 3 items from Funyroot and about 5 others from Aliexpress. If I do get something for free I mention it as I did in his video - th-cam.com/video/JoqoT_8esCw/w-d-xo.html or this video - th-cam.com/video/UTcOkxz6GgU/w-d-xo.html
Damn Chinese they only do nes/famicom or Megadrive when they do there clone consoles. Damit China if your going to clone a system put games that are for that system don't do a system an put nes/famicom games in every one of them. So China if yo are going to clone the playstation mini I expect PS1 games not Nes/famicom games. I expect the same thing whit the N64 mini.
And then a Sega 32X version. Oh wait, We went too far!!! We need to go back!!! *accidentally goes back to 999999999 B.C.* Dang it, I'm in the stone age now!!!
I bet as soon as the Mega Drive classics is released next year the Chinese will be all over it with a billion clones. All playing NES games of course :p
Oh why there has to be alway’s nes roms on it, maybe if we could reflash or replace the rom chip on it with snes roms on it, that will justifie this clone. But oh boy, only 25 dollars wich is is equal to €20 with only €2,50 euro’s that insanely cheap ,, BUT don’t forget that (depending on where you live in europe) we also have to pay import tax costs if the product get’s randomly controller by the duane wich can range up to €40 wich is insanely high. I remember i bought a €84 product from the us with shipping costs of €40 and i also had pay €40 import tax cost because it was controlled by the duane, thus ending up paying an massive €80 above the €84 euro’s man what was i pissed off,o,o,o GGGRRR
Once again No, the hardware is not close enough to the original because the sound is not the same at least in games like TMNT 2. i'm sure someone will make fun of the number of games this thing has by the way since all it needs is just another number 6 to be"evil".
Retro Core I hope not, i honestly hate when i see that number out of nowere in different media. though is not like i'm gonna avoid everything with that number, for example i played Castlevania Portrait of Ruin on the DS and i don't hate the game suddenly because i discovered Dracula has 6666 of HP or because Death has 4444 of HP.
great another site on which you cannot search. Whatever you input you will just get the whole inventory not matching any of your search terms. I wonder what other things they have. Any HDMI systems? I think you stating it's good should actually be 'not as crappy as most china clones'. Still not good. cons: -No HDMI, only composite which is just the worst -bad emulation -fake product that is worthless second hand -no way to put games on there -probably has 20 games that are repeated pros: -perhaps the controllers work on a Wii? -case can be used, but pretty ugly case at that -pricing is okay for what you get, but who would want this? I would not give this to my worst enemy.
For us this item is not that great but it does appeal to many in more poorer countries. I think composite video is awful. Always have. I even thing S-Video looks bad. I've been a user of RGB since 1987 you see. I personally wouldn't buy this but I can imagine a child being over the moon with something like this. There are actually hundreds of games on it.
@Bro, no they do not. It looks like ass on any crt. It's a common misconception that they do. Have you even ever played with a system connected through RGB?
No, I haven't. But I've played with them on HDMI, so I know what good quality is. It must be a problem with your TV or system. When I play composite output on my CRT, it looks great. The problem is either your equipment or your perspective. Maybe using RGB has led you to expect too much.
I guess these devices are out there for those on a real tight budget or to trick those who are not too well up on things such as parents buying stuff for their kids.
Shadow Warriors is the PAL version of Ninja Gaiden, which is why the music was playing too fast. It's a 50Hz game running on a 60Hz machine.
If anything, it looks like a great rasberry pi case + some decent controllers.
I still can't fathom why these machines don't have HDMI yet.
might be to do with hdmi license costs larry but it is chinese so you would think they wouldnt care but i dunno blame peter molonugue
Some do, Larry. These ones normally cost around 50 US dollars though. And even then they're mostly composite to HDMI converters inside the case.
Forget it, Larry. Its Chinatown.
A collab is coming soon, I hope.
The Retroad HD Genesis has HDMI, but it costs $68 to buy, probably because it costs them a lot to make them HD compatible. They might assume people won't buy such an expensive system, so they leave out HDMI to reduce production costs and increase sales due to the reduced price.

Hmm, I wonder if they have a HDMI version of this console? If they did I can imagine them wanting a bit more for it.
A nice feature to add on this one is making the L&R or shoulder buttons a save and load state function.
That would be a cool feature but I can imagine pressing them by mistake all of the time , haha.

Hey, for any of them that were made in 2015, it was actually accurate XD
You buy a SNES....you get NES...I know I'm asking a stupid question, but is that legal? :)
100% yes. Nintendo's patents on the Famicom / NES hardware are over so you can copy the machine. What is not legal though is bundling in all the ROMs and ripping off the SNES console and pad design.
She is a bit but what is she going to do 😜
Nice one, stick it to Nintendo....
"Good"?
I mean, it's still a SNES shaped console with NES games on it.
Good as in you get a lot of games for a reasonably cheap price.
Can't help but notice that affiliate link on this Chinese knock off you've praised to hell and back.
Seems a conflict of interest.
Strange that a Chinese knock off would be using the US style SNES case and not Super Famicom
They make a Japanese / Euro style one too.
Looks like an SNES, but plays NES....way to go China.....
They should at least make it look like the system whose games they play. To make it look like the SNES when it only plays NES games is a bit shady.
Now we need a SEGA Genesis version
And then a Sega 32X version. Oh wait, We went too far!!! We need to go back!!!
*accidentally goes back to 999999999 B.C.*
Dang it, I'm in the stone age now!!!
I bet as soon as the Mega Drive classics is released next year the Chinese will be all over it with a billion clones. All playing NES games of course :p
@@RetroCore Yeah, & soon the caveman from the far past may get to travel to the future to play some of those great games.
-Atgames did one already-
Psssst....
Snes playing nes games. Quit saying its good
Oh why there has to be alway’s nes roms on it, maybe if we could reflash or replace the rom chip on it with snes roms on it, that will justifie this clone.
But oh boy, only 25 dollars wich is is equal to €20 with only €2,50 euro’s that insanely cheap ,,
BUT don’t forget that (depending on where you live in europe) we also have to pay import tax costs if the product get’s randomly controller by the duane wich can range up to €40 wich is insanely high.
I remember i bought a €84 product from the us with shipping costs of €40 and i also had pay €40 import tax cost because it was controlled by the duane, thus ending up paying an massive €80 above the €84 euro’s man what was i pissed off,o,o,o GGGRRR
Import tax sucks arse big time. I've only ever paid import tax once on a product coming in to Japan and that was for the Neo Geo SD cart.
Sadly, it's not HDMI.
Wow the snes american
User Manuai....lol
Yep, seems to be an ongoing error with these things. I'm sure this is the 4th unit I've had that said Manuai.
Ahh no you would not be able to use the original snes controllers with that hunk of junk
Once again No, the hardware is not close enough to the original because the sound is not the same at least in games like TMNT 2. i'm sure someone will make fun of the number of games this thing has by the way since all it needs is just another number 6 to be"evil".
XD that would be great to have it modded to have that many games.
Hmm, I wonder if there is a 666 version?
Retro Core I hope not, i honestly hate when i see that number out of nowere in different media. though is not like i'm gonna avoid everything with that number, for example i played Castlevania Portrait of Ruin on the DS and i don't hate the game suddenly because i discovered Dracula has 6666 of HP or because Death has 4444 of HP.
great another site on which you cannot search. Whatever you input you will just get the whole inventory not matching any of your search terms. I wonder what other things they have. Any HDMI systems?
I think you stating it's good should actually be 'not as crappy as most china clones'. Still not good.
cons:
-No HDMI, only composite which is just the worst
-bad emulation
-fake product that is worthless second hand
-no way to put games on there
-probably has 20 games that are repeated
pros:
-perhaps the controllers work on a Wii?
-case can be used, but pretty ugly case at that
-pricing is okay for what you get, but who would want this? I would not give this to my worst enemy.
For us this item is not that great but it does appeal to many in more poorer countries. I think composite video is awful. Always have. I even thing S-Video looks bad. I've been a user of RGB since 1987 you see.
I personally wouldn't buy this but I can imagine a child being over the moon with something like this. There are actually hundreds of games on it.
They look great if you hook them up to old fashioned TVs though :D
@Bro, no they do not. It looks like ass on any crt. It's a common misconception that they do. Have you even ever played with a system connected through RGB?
No, I haven't. But I've played with them on HDMI, so I know what good quality is. It must be a problem with your TV or system. When I play composite output on my CRT, it looks great. The problem is either your equipment or your perspective. Maybe using RGB has led you to expect too much.
Well it's not my equipment.....
If only it was the Euro SFC/SNES not the US rectangular monstrosity ;-)
The one that looks slightly more round?
Buy the real thing, how simple can it be!
I guess these devices are out there for those on a real tight budget or to trick those who are not too well up on things such as parents buying stuff for their kids.
i agree with you but we all know the quality of the Chinese goods and there toxicity!
