A young boy known as the Avatar must master the four elemental powers to save a world at war - and fight a ruthless enemy bent on stopping him.
the father we wish zuko had 🥲
He had Iroh. 💚
@@yurmomsaccountTRUE. But his bio father still purposefully burned his face.
@@yurmomsaccountbut iroh let him get burned while he stood there and looked away, even when zuko later said that iroh was powerful enough to have fight Ozai!!!
Seeing iroh only as a wonderful uncle, i agree with your statement without any doubt.
@@havesomeculture Yeah but there was a huge power dynamic going on there. They were in the castle. There were guards everywhere. You don't think that he would have been killed?
22:12 Also not the first time he’s played a father in the Avatarverse. He voiced Hiroshi Sato in LoK.
And general Fong in OG ATLA!
And both father roles are.. well.. something
Through this interview, I realized that Daniel Dae Kim is a very eloquent speaker and so humble. I admired him as an actor in Lost and I am glad he got to play a part in ATLA. He really captured the essence of Lord Ozai. I look forward to him taking on many great roles under his belt in his career.
18:50 the moment he started talking about ATLA live-actions like that, I knew Philip was one of us 😆 THERE IS NO MOVIE IN BA SING SE
*nO iT hAsNt* with the glance😂😂
DDK ❤❤❤
Always love the Wongfu x Netflix collabs
Wow I didn’t know he was from wong fu productions. But he looked familiar
21:19 _"If i can be considered as cool to my nephews and nieces and my own kids then that's a win"_ ngl this is wholesome💙
This guy truly fits the look of Fire Lord Ozai. They did a great job casting him. Been a fan of his since LOST.
Such a humble guy! What a legend 🙌
Phil and DDK talking about fatherhood is something I did not know I needed
Daniel DAE Kim leading the fight against the Asian Dad Starter Pack. We love to see it
I remember my first exposure to Daniel was on Angel, the spinoff series from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He may have played an evil ambitious lawyer for a demon firm, but man did exude charisma every time he was on screen, and we were lucky to have him as a recurring character. I was so pleased to see him get a regular role on Lost, and every time he showed up in other series like 24. So happy for him for all the success he's earned, and it's awesome that he gets to play Ozai!
what ?? completely forgot about that. Have to rewatch.
That daddy motivational phrases hits hard especially coming from Lord Ozai. DDK the best!
What a relaxed, yet humorous and inspiring episode. Been a big fan of Daniel Dae Kim since Lost! I love that he's always repping Hawaii and AAPI everywhere he goes. I hope to run into him someday in Hawaii! 🤙🌴
I am so grateful for this interview. As a non Asian person with immigrant parents who is also pursuing acting, his story resonated with me greatly. Thank you both for doing this!
As 90s Asian baby (gaysian, to be specific) that grew up on early 2000s TH-cam and media, it's legends like WongFu Productions that make me proud to still see thriving and successful. YOU BETTER DO YOUR THANG PHIL. (And please I hope a bopomofo cafe eventually opens in Toronto because I would literally go everyday and bring all my friends).
ALSO: Love hearing from DDK. I just finished watching ATLA on Netflix and loved the live action remake and him in it.
Second this! Bring one to Toronto!
I will always be thankful for his portrayal as Jin. Lost is my favorite show and I absolutely loved Jin!
20:58 it is same for pedro pascal. He asked kids if he should take the role of Joel and they're like YES!!!!
I’ll never forget his amazing performance on Lost. I was SO happy hearing he would be in The Last Airbender! 👏
Netflix please do a full movie or series with WongFu!❤
Yesss let's push this comment up!! WF4 LyFe 🎉

DDK reminds me to Viggo Mortensen, when he asked the opinion of his son when he was hesitating to play Aragorn, the heir of the crown of Gondor. And his son told him "You have to play Aragorn". Most of the best actors I've known, were unsure if they should accept playing their roles. But what I can see, is that when they listen to kids (nephews, nieces, sons, daughters, grandchildren, etc.) they end up delivering the best character I've seen from that actor.
Because you understand that the actor isn't doing the work so he can say in the future "Ya know, I played the bad guy of this series". They're doing their job so the kids in their family can tell to their friends "Hey, did you know that my father is the fire lord Ozai?"
And when an actors does that, the character they're playing is 1000 times better than the original character it's based on.
I can say exactly that with Daniel Dae Kim and Ozai, the Fire Lord.
I can see his nieces, kids and nephews telling to their friends: "Hey, my father/uncle is the fire lord Ozai".
And that just makes me feel better about the cast, and the show itself.
I hope in the future, DDK's kids can appreciate the great work he did.
Same with Pedro Pascal on playing Joel. It was the kids too 😂
I like hearing that more and more often, because kids have no filter - as DDK put it, it's a mixture of stupidity and naivete that allows them to take risks. And if a kid - whether your own or a relative's - can see you in the role, or sometimes more importantly, INSISTS that you need to take that role, then it means that it's a must. Hell, this even applies to video games. God of War had some of the best acting, period, that I've seen in a long time. EVERYBODY was pitch-perfect. And some of the adults - Richard Schiff and Chris Judge in particular - took those roles specifically because their kids told them that they HAD to do it.
What!!! He once lived in my hometown!!! That's so cool knowing I walked through streets he's seen before.
Also. In Easton, there's more hispanic/mexican than asian people. My family is Cambodian (dad) and Mexican (mom). Went to school there from 08-19. I would say each class was about 50% white, and the rest were black and other minorities.
He voiced general Fong in the OG avatar cartoon , mr sato in legend of Korra and he’s playing fire lord ozai in the live action. Bro is the GOAT
My first time seeing Daniel Dae Kim was in the sci-fi. Babylon 5 spin-off Crusade as Lt. Matheson. A telepath serving next to Capt Gideon. I’ve been following him since…he is talented actor.
Missed opportunity for Phil to ask Daniel to compare Ozai and Hiroshi's terrible parenting, lol. Glad we got a General Fong mention, though, haha. 😅
never watched ATLA the cartoon before but after watching ATLA on netflix, its pretty sick. loved all of the cast lol. and daniel what a legend!
saving this so I can watch those affirmations when I need them. Those deliveries were just what my heart needed
The affirmations have been recorded. Also, the comparing cousins reminded me of Steven He. Please get him on the show. Maybe with Nigel Ng.
Phillip is such a good interviewer! Love DDK since Lost!
I love DDK, one of my favorite actors. Awesome gentlemen and extremely skilled at his craft. Yes, Daniel, I agree you're a leading man. Nice interview 🥰🤗🥰🤗.
People may know him as Ozai but I know him as Johnny Gat 😂
I really enjoyed this interview! Well done! (And lol at crossing streams with Daniel Dae Kim)
I didn’t know he graduated high school in my town. That’s so cool! He’s such an amazing actor
What a great interview!! I really love the Spill the Boba Tea series
What a great interview. Such a wholesome and dedicated guy. I aspire to have that level of calmness and finnese when talking.
I love DDK! He was the best actor in Avatar! He hit Firelord Ozai spot on
I know he's been in a ton of shows. But I will always remember him in Angel as Gavin Park
2 of my FAVORITE people! Nice job Philip!!!
I enjoyed this so much. Great interview!
I didn’t know he did Mech Cadets! That show was awesome I hope we get a season 2.
So glad they discussed Lost! Such a great show that really changed the course of sci-fi television ❤️
This was great. DDK is a true trailblazer
I’m drooling over Daniel Bae Kim but Phil is such a great host and YOU’RE DOING GREAT
Wasn't expecting to see Wongfu here. Great segment. Looked like a delicious drink.
I remember Daniel being on Star Trek: Voyager. And that was bit of a lead alien role
I'm a fan. Glad to see a fellow Asian making it big. One that I can be proud to say...
Watched this show three times now, me and kids enjoyed it. We need a season 2. 😊. Seriously.❤
Love these collabs. Fantastic interview!
It's crazy to see younger pics of Daniel and to also know what his sons look like as current teens/young adults, and they are literally spitting images of him lmao
LOL! The affirmations were hilarious. My Chinese immigrant dad actually did say something along the lines of "A B plus is good enough" -- unironically, believe it or not-- But in my head I was still putting a lot of pressure on myself to be perfect with straight As...
My mom is from Korea, and she was also content with Bs. Arts we're still a no-go, though. 😂
The affirmations we all needed to hear.
Ken Leung is the one that deserves the spotlight and the career. By far. He steals every scene he's in, his presence, intensity, such depth where you never wouldve expected. Seriously, did he piss off some bigshot producer or what? No offense, Kim. Leung's lack of deserved recognition should be a war crime.
This was a fantastic interview
What an amazing interview!! We missed you WongFu 🤩
Loved him in Hawaii Five-O.
Daddy Dae Kim ❤
That dad advice was solid.
Daniel Dae Kim such an attractive man, he was perfect as Fire Lord Ozai.
Awesome 👌! Boba and asian American with 2 awesome guys hanging out and talking and am going to watch Avatar on my Netflix account on my laptop!
Best DDK interview I’ve seen so far.
Beautiful story, nothing less expected from the daddy lord
He's done so many things, but every time I hear his voice, I just think of his character Johnny Gat from the Saint's Row games.
I am so happy to see another season of Spill the Boba Tea!
What a humble dude and class act
JIN FROM LOST JIN FROM LOST JIN FROM LOST!!!!!!! will always remember him from that show and Jin + Sun were the first Korean couple I ever romanticized!!! Before I started watching kdramas 😂
FINALY. HE FINALY GETTING PROPS FOR WHATS HE DOES.'CONGRATS DANIEL''
DANIEL DAE KIM OMG WHAT A DREAMBOAT ❤
The show is so good and DDK plays Ozai with such flair and different levels, manipulating Azula and treating Zuko with such contempt and disregard.
"That pleased him. He
told me it was a job well done. And then he said ...Beware of power, Zoya. There is no amount of it that can make them love you." - Leigh Bardugo
Ok I have Jamaican parents and i DEFINITELY needed to hear those affirmations! LOLOL
DDK!! LOVED THIS
LEGENDDDD!!!
Why did the father affirmations make me cry?! 😭😂
It's Johnny Gat!
BRO WAS GENERAL FONG??
also Philip talking about live action adaptation... ONE OF US
Johnny Gat !
Great job phil interviewing fire lord ozai
Love this! Great interview ❤
Season 2 I’m ready! I need more
Those 'Asian Dad' affirmations 😂
🌟😍 So excited to hear from Daniel Dae Kim about his legendary career! Ready to sip some boba tea and get inspired! 🎬🍵
wow, Im in awe with this interview, aside from the content and intelligent conversation, both question-response and all. I love how plain the language is, clear accent, no slang, and very clear audio. no shenanigans.
"I'm glad you pursued the arts"
Said NO asian dad ever ! And certainly not mine !
That one made me laugh painfully (I'm an animation artist).
But awesome interview !
It's so great to see they're long time friends. I feel like Netflix should give WF productions a go into making their own series, since 50% of their Asian actors basically started at WF.
Loved this format!
Imagine being that handsome and only getting 3 auditions a YEAR. Jesus it's brutal out there.
I first saw DDK in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2. He was Dr Otto Octavius' lab assistant. He saw the power of the sun up close 😅
This man! 😍😍😍
Not to take away from the points that Mr. Wang is trying to bring up regarding the marginalization of Asian actors throughout the video, but I appreciate that Mr. Kim is acknowledging those points but pointing out that they apply to more than just Asian actors.
He will always be Johnny Gat to me, forever and always
Daniel Dae Kim is and always has been so fine, my goodness
Daddy Dae Kim
Quote of the Day: “FIRE LORD IS MELTING HEARTS RIGHT NOW.”
Can we get a re-record of DDK saying the affirmations, but looking into the camera and without the glasses? Kthxbye
Wish i never met the man... Better actor than person in real life.
Great interview.
That intro!!!!!!
DDK will always be Johnny Gat to me 😍
My boi Johnny Gat, long live Johnny Gat
Wang Fire 🔥
Was hoping to hear him talk about Johnny Gat :(
This is a boba shop in sgv lol I forgot the name of it but it's in the same Plaza as golden deli!
Ill always know him as Jin !
