    I just looked this case up to see if anything has changed and the mother of Rhonda was actually charged with embezzlement for taking social security checks that were meant to be used for her granddaughter. I feel so bad for this little girl having to go through losing her mother and everything occurring since.

    Rhonda was my friend, I was also her hairstylist.. we met at a Dave Mathews concert.. I was involved with this ongoing investigation, giving my statements to police detectives. Rhonda was the sweetest person and loved her daughter so much.. she told me the last time I saw her about the life insurance policy he’d taken out on her, and also said if I never saw her alive again.. that he did it.

      Please follow Kendall when she says that everybody deals with things differently. I realized after the fact that the last time I called 911 FOR MYSELF. I talked super calm and normal, which I was told is why they didn't rush to the scene. (major car accident, both cars leaking allllll the fluids, air bags went off, many injuries. etc.) This isn't me saying what is right or wrong, or making a decision on this case, but we can't take 911 calls as a decision maker anymore.

      It's also a bizarrely unnecessary thing to say. As the only other living biological parent of the child unless he's deemed unfit most judges would give him custody without question. The grandparents or some other interested party would have to contest it and claim he's unfit and then they'd have to prove it and the court doesn't make that easy because the rights of the biological parents are usually paramount, especially in the case of there being only one. Grandparents and other extended family essentially have no rights to the child whatsoever and will pretty much outright lose even a case brought against the surviving parent just for visitation rights so they can see their grandchild. So, while I agree that he likely lied and she never actually said that to him, I don't see *why* he thought he needed to lie.

      Juniper i think it was an impulsive response to the police's potential suspicion. since he also randomly blurted out how he was gonna propose to her, he seems like he's not very smart in trying to appear innocent. he'll just say whatever he thinks will alleviate his guilt. it's also bizarre that he thinks her predicting her death is any indication of her fall being an accident. clearly he's very mentally deranged.

      As a foster-adoptive parent I think it’s because she didn’t meet the requirements. She would need to meet all the same requirements as any other foster home. She could have been denied custody for a myriad of reasons- income, shape of the home, not having a room for the baby, illegal collection of rainwater, poor health, inability to physically care for a baby, etc. It honestly could be anything.

    He killed her.
    His story doesn’t add up at all, her running with a blanket, her turning around sharply despite knowing she was in a dangerous area. That doesn’t exactly make sense. Then him falling asleep on her body.
    His paedophilic ways and his history with violence. He shows no signs of empathy and has a lack of remorse. He can be passed as psychopath if tested.

      Sociopaths tend to be capable of much deeper emotions than psychopaths (usually because they are the way they are due to trauma, not simply born that way like a psychopath and other non-neurotypicals)

    the SECOND i saw steve and when he said "she valued intelligence and that's one of my strongest traits" he was suspicious. and when he said he just let her run so recklessly on a dangerous trail that lead to a VERY dangerous fall? like dude, you didn't even TRY to stop her if your story was true? it only got worse as his story went onward. and that interviewer when he said he fell asleep ON HER DEAD BODY, the quiet "...you fell asleep?" was definitely what i felt too. like, dude, what the fuck?
    steve definitely doesn't love her and likely never has, definitely just wanted the money from the life insurance. rhonda's mom also doesn't seem that great introducing her poor daughter to this guy... rest in piece, rhonda, you deserved so much better than all of this.

    Looking at his interview from a psychology stance, when they asked him to describe what happened when she fell. He laughed and said he’s not going to talk about it. People laugh when they are guilty and when they are nervous and being questioned. If someone asked you how your loved one passed away because you were there to witness would you laugh? That was disturbing. And he doesn’t want to talk about how she fell because it’s too hard for him to lie about it’s easier to not talk about it

    The way he says "My girlfriend fell off the cliff" in such a nonchalant way pisses me off. He's like "Oh my girlfriend just fell to her death, just another Tuesday" like wtf. In the interview too, when they ask him about what happened then (or whatever the interviewer was asking) he laughs and doesn't say anything. The way he talks about her death is like he's casually talking to a friend about something. He's so suspicious and idk how he didn't get arrested

      Actually depends the social workers have to evaluate the home the background of each member that comes in and out of the home the cleanliness and more. It’s very hard to gain custody. Sometimes the judge won’t always see the next of kin as fit and that’s where CPS comes in.

      Josephina Davis it’s not THAT difficult to get custody. The foster system is overcrowded and underfunded. They want to keep kids with their families as much as possible. They must have had some reason to not find them fit.

    He's definitely guilty. His ex-wife filed a police report that he tried to suffocate her and push her off the balcony, how can they just let it slide? If the nanny wasn't there, his ex-wife would probably be dead. If it almost happened once, he could've done it again.

      Well, he was 30 and she was 20 when they first met. But this happened in 2009 and she was 23 when it happened, so he would have been 33. Which means that today, 10 years later, he would be around 43.

    I dated and lived with someone 12 years older than me when I graduated high school. He was exactly as you said, abusive but also “parenting”. It was a strange time. He always put me down by saying I didn’t understand things or I’m stupid because I’m young. It was truly the worst two years of my life but I finally got the courage to leave and things got better for me. It still affects me 3 years later.

      I was a bit 'parented' by an older boyfriend, its years ago now. It wasn't that negative for me though, i'd been through a serious trauma, and I actually needed a bit of TLC at the time. Sounds a bit weird maybe, but I guess a lot of it really depends on the individuals involved.

    I’ve hiked this trail many times, and promise you, NO ONE runs at this section of the trail! There’s a friggin cable bolted to the side of mtn/cliff to hold onto to keep from falling off. Also, he’s absolutely guilty of murder. Duh.
