Texas singer/songwriter Jimmie Dale Gilmore creates a unique style of music-labeled "progressive alternative country" and, lately, "Americana"-that blends a lifelong interest in esoteric philosophy, literature, psychology, and spirituality with elements of country, folk, pop, blues, and rock music. Three of his CDs, Spinning Around the Sun, Braver New World, and Come on Back have received Grammy nominations. The Rolling Stone Critics' Poll named him the Country Artist of the Year for two straight years. Gilmore's CD One Endless Night is, in his description, a musical self-portrait. He continues to record and perform with his band, The Flatlanders.

This is a beautiful masterpiece of a song. So much emotion and sincerity. A simple but captivating tune.

I it is nice to know that someone from the British Isles , from where many of my ancestors originated, appreciates this music like I do ! One of the reason the U.S. has been able to prosper so much is because our forefather where British.
Jimmie and this song were a big influence on me years ago. I also grew up in West Texas / Eastern New Mexico. When the album Spinning Around the Sun came out, I heard an interview with Jimmie explaining the lyrics of this song, comparing it with Buddhism, and discussing life in general. That interview and his music opened a lot of doors for me, mentally and spiritually.
Jimmy, you sparkle and shine here in "Another Colorado" just like so many of your wonderful compositions ! I love this song and your stunning performance too ! Thank you.
I love this...my favorite JDG song. His distinctive twang and the emotional connection to the lyrics make this very special. It manages to feel deeply personal and old, like a 19th Century folk song, at the same time.

Saw JDG at the Birchmere, in Alexandria VA, Thursday 18 April, a few weeks ago, as a member of the Flatlanders - ...Gilmore/Ely/Hancock were all superb - its a rare thing that three strings fall into tune, independently, walk in one landscape,and in one in step- all with class.

I first saw and heard Jimmie perform at Verde Valley School in Sedona, Az. in 1994. He opened for Jackson Browne who would do a benefit for several years for the school. I knew within the first few notes I liked him and his music a lot. It was a most memorable afternoon sitting outside amongst the red rocks in perfect weather. I later saw JDG at a club in NYC. A beautiful artist is he.

First found Jimmy as part of the Flatlanders, I was a long time fan of Joe Ely, discovering him and Butch Hancock was such a gift! Amazing, unique voice, love listening to him.
I'm looking forward to seeing JDG, with my friends, again this Thursday at the Birchmere in Alexandria VA, as part of the Flatlanders- what a great, great talent and musical friend.

I do not understand why our two country stations never play any of this singers work.
The title is "Another Colorado", not "The Banks Of The Colorado"
In the traditional "Banks of the Colorado," I believe the narrator/singer kills his love on the banks of the Colorado. I doubt I've heard that version in 40 years.
Originally the banks of the Guadalupe, but I guess the Colorado is more commercially viable.

I remember Omega. I stayed for two weeks. Was treated horribly by staff (around 1990). The higher ups were extremely condescending. Helped get Deepak Chopra's luggage to his bungalow, just as a gesture of kindness to his female assistant he had left too much work to do. I remember the malice he had for me in front of hundreds. I remember the politics and the homosexual advances of the senior male staff. But whatever. Jimmie Dale Gilmore seems cool.
