I liked the first quote. Went and saw the play live yesterday (absolutely fantastic), and I noticed that the two are exactly alike other than their upbringing. Both like sweets, both miss the target when shooting with air guns, both fall for the same girl, both like the same jokes, the same “movies”, the same sense of humour, etc.
Can I recommend that you should do more Othello videos such as summary on Act 1, I previously studied Merchant of Venice and you really helped me relieve exam stress and time!
In the 'and only if' quote, the line the narrator says about changing weather is a direct callback to the song 'easy terms', in which mrs johnstone sings the line 'constant as the changing weather'
During the play Mrs Johnstone, in particular, seems to be superstitious - she believes that certain behaviours provoke supernatural forces to bring either good or bad fortune. So this quote is asking is whether the the deaths of Mickey and Edward ARE ACTUALLY a result of doing something that offended these supposed supernatural forces, or whether the deaths are due to the English class system; a class system which - as we see in the play - means two IDENTICAL people (Edward and Mickey) are treated completely differently on the basis of their class alone. It asks whether the privileges of the higher class Edward end up provoking the insecurities and jealousies that eventually result in Mickey killing Edward - and then being killed himself.
