When I was at high School these were my 2 rugby heroes. Jonah because he was a freak of nature and small because of the fearless way he played. Jonah was obviously very sick when this was filmed and passed away a few months later. R.I.P my heroes

Sad to think that both men passed away within a few years of this video. You can see that the respect between the players was always there. Competitors of course, but respectful.

I love that these two are both so humble and have such respect for each other. Testament to their characters. They are the embodiment to the idea that sport is there to teach youngsters how to treat each other. Compete fiercely, but with respect and fairness.

I didn't even know this was up here. How flipping cool. Jonah fully sounds like the matures statesman of the game that he became. And despite being months from the end, he sounds so alive here. I see so much more than just the hugely talented rugby player here. And of course James was my favourite. So cool to see all the comments from kiwis here respecting James' attitude and approach to the game. 2 guys who did transcend the game

Holy sh1t this conversation is taking me back to that World Cup and how everyone for a whole week was discussing how to deal with this man and the debate between people saying James can get him vs everything in the past saying nothing can get Jonah. And now we’ve got this on record of the two of them walking us through the events and their thinking. Devastated they’ve both passed on but so happy this recording was made.

It brings tears to the eyes. How could it not? Let's also not forget Joost, his rugby, his cruel tragedy...greatest half back of all time, some have said...and absolutely NO fear. One time I met him and Pieter Hendricks and Joubert on a night out at the Waterfront in CT. I'm a small man and Joost was just a touch bigger than me...but a guy with the heart of a lion on a rugby field. He was humble and friendly...what a gentleman.

A fistula is a special connection created by joining a vein onto an artery. This results in a large robust blood vessel that can be needled regularly for use in haemodialysis. As Jonah mentions in the video he has to go 4 times weekly for HD, to clear out the waste products which his kidneys are unable to clear out of his system, as well as getting rid of the water he retained on the days when he wasn't dialysing.
