  • What is sourdough bread? How does it differ to the common loaf? We went to visit Julian Carter, a 6th generation artisan baker from Hambleton Bakery to find out the science behind sourdough and see how it is made.

    Here in the U.S. some commercial so called sourdough bread actually contains yeast with sourdough flavorings, and is not 100% sourdough. The sourdough bread that I make for our house , family, and friends, just contains 3 ingredients, flour, water, salt, thats it.
    Of course the starter is made up of just flour and water. One of our friends who has been eating our sourdough bread for about a year told me she can't go back to store bought bread after eating ours. Thats a nice compliment.
