    You got yourself a couple of dream hardware for the Amiga.

    Very cool comparison. Thank you for doing such a thourough job with this.
    I'm actually a bit surprised that the difference isn't greater considering the 040 is running at half the clock speed. Benchmarks vary by quite a bit when comparing these two CPU's, from the 060 being about 30% faster at the same clock speed, to almost twice as fast. These real-world comparisons are great! I've recently acquired a Cyberstorm MKII 040 (40mhz) for my A4000 and I'm very much looking forward to comparing it's performance with my Blizzard 1260 @66mhz.

      No problem! I always find real-world comparisons to be much more useful than simple benchmarking.
      My main surprise was how well some games or applications worked, while others didn't seem to improve quite as much.

    Ah, so my DCE Blizzard 1260 Ser: 577 got into this video too at 15:52... :) That thing gets into a lot of '060 documentation and videos since I submitted its photo on BBoAH. :) (Actually I put it into a scanner, and scanned it...) Nice video and comparison btw, liked it.

    Those were amazing pieces of hardware

    It kinda shows the 68040 as having the largest generational increase.

    Was the text in the middle of your 060 added sometime after it left the factory? Oh and a lovely video BTW.

    Loved your video :) i compared your benchmarks against an Apollo 1260 i have, and your scores are bang on. I thought the 040 did well, considering its running at half the clock speed. I have a terriblefire 1260, with a Rev6 060 @80mhz, and that scores 60,000 in Sysinfo, although my V1200 does 147,000 in Sysinfo, and is way rapid. Thanks for taking the time to show us the games, that was great, i wonder how an 040 @40mhz would compare? curious to see how the PPC runs to, thanks for sharin :)

      I think real-world comparisons are always the way to go. Ultimately, it's how it feels to the user rather than the numbers presented.
      Annoyingly, I haven't done any comparisons with the differently-clocked 603e chips. Have been too busy just using the machine!

    It's not about the cost, it's about the experience.

    Nice video. I didn't think Doom was able to run so well on real Amiga hardware.
    For a next video, show PPC native games such as Wipeout?

      Thanks!
      I've done a video on PowerPC gaming before, check it out! th-cam.com/video/FtV7qIRYtSE/w-d-xo.html
      Though will have to see how the newer 240Mhz chip does against me previous 160Mhz one.

    Hi. Can you do the mips and mflops test with ppc and 68060, please ?

    Funny thing was I thought Genetic species was smooth as butter on my 68030@50 mhz

    That's only a start. Next step: 060 rev6 @ 100 MHz. That's what I use (A4000, CyberStorm Mk2).

      Just ordered a TF1260 and I have been sitting on a rev 6 060 for over a year so I'm super excited.

    The C4D results are slow, have you used the FPU executable?

      I’m pretty sure it was, but will confirm next time I get the tower plugged in!

    Seems like 3D games do not get much benefit from the Amiga-specific hardware like the Copper and Blitter; they have to fall back to the CPU to deal with most of the rendering.

      Yep, the Amiga graphics chips weren't made with 3D in mind, so it's all down to the CPU.

    DooM has a FPS limit of 35 --- so anything in the 20 is great :)

    68040 is incredibly fast, clock to clock is equal to 68060

    its people who hoard this stuff for years that drive up the prices for the rest of us!

  • @vertigoz

    had a 040 card run with an rtg card it would probably get toe to toe with 060+aga

    • @amipal24
      @amipal24  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I ran my Voodoo3 via a 68040 for years, and was more than happy with it! And you're quite right, AGA really is a limiting factor.

  • @another3997
    @another3997 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great comparison. I once had a 33mhz 040 in an Amiga 1200, which blew away the old 50mhz Blizzard 030 it had before. The prices of the 060 chips are ridiculous these days. When you compare them the cost today of contemporary Pentium class chips or PPC chips for old Macs. One criticism... your gratuitous use of "errrr"and "erm" is really annoying! 😉
