Thanks Steve! We really enjoy making theses and the drone is a lot of fun. Yeah there was so much history in this area, would have been nice to spend a bit more time there. 😎👍🏻
Very glad to of found your Site Sean and Emily. loved it when Emily asked Sean if he wanted to walk on Hadrians wall, And Sean said he didnt feel the need to walk on it , And as Emily wanted to Sean decided he would also now do it. Hadrian's Wall was probably more a show of power than to keep people out. It was hugely dominant on the landscape. Another wall was built later called the Antonine Wall which was across the centre of what is now Scotland but they abandoned that and moved back to Hadrian's Wall. You're totally right about taking the stones for other buildings too. Coming from Northumberland (north of rhe wall so I'm a heathen 😉) we did most of our school trips there. ☺️
Hi, yeah that could well be. It is still actually a supper impressive structure today so it must have been all the more impressive when built! Have to say we didn’t know about the other wall so thanks for sharing that! -would have looked for that one for sure had we known. Haha guessing you’ve had enough of the wall by now then 😁
@@SeanandEmily It's still amazing to see the wall and I enjoy being up there when I'm back home. It's why it was so painful when the tree was cut down. Love your videos, thanks!
I've not been to Hadrian's Wall, but it's now on my list. Superb and rather impressive drone footage of old forts and encampments. I really liked how you captured it. Another great episode and looking forward to the next one! 🙂
Hi Gary, yeah it's one of those many places we never got around to visiting when living in the UK but really glad we did see it now, the walk along the wall looks like it would be fun as there are many parts of it we didn't see. Thanks for your comment and catch you in the next one. 😎👍
Great to watch you on my local roads 🙂 Hadrian's wall was the destination for more than a few school trips! 😂 Brilliant drone shots, interesting to see it from a different perspective
Great drone shots , Hadrians wall wasn’t a border between Scotland and England . It was built to keep the Picts out but they beat the Romans a few times . You both should be getting paid by the UK tourist board ,doing a great job exploring and showing the country off. Really enjoying the trips ,keep safe 👌
Thanks! the weather has helped us to show off the country too. There’s been so many great places in the UK and Ireland. Glad to hear you enjoy them still 😎👍🏻
Love the history, looking forward to Lake District a place me and the wife have not been to perhaps if we do go we could do the West Coast of Scotland as your videos there were amazing
Hi Steve, we really enjoyed seeing this place too, has been on the to visit list for a long time. The Lake district is going to be good as it was beautiful. That sound like a great tour the Lake district into the West coast of Scotland would be fantastic and easily done in 1-2 weeks. Looking forwards sharing the next episodes 😊👍
Hi guys, another great video/episode,especially the drone footage (unfortunately I had a mental picture of Sean, dressed as Liberace, sitting at a piano !) 😂😂😂
I never knew there was a Roman history in this part of England. I knew about their influence in Wales and gold mining, but not about this wall. Thanks guys for sharing.
Yeah i think this is as North as they got, well actually there is another wall a bit further North but it didn't really work out. This region is scattered with all sorts of roman sights. Ah yeah the Welsh Gold is very sort after, princess Diana had a Clogau gold ring. Glad you found it interesting 😎👍
Yes,Hadrian was forced to build a wall as protection from being battered by the Scots with their golf clubs! 😂 They tried again later and got as far as the Antoine Wall (Glasgow to Edinburgh) and eventually they gave up and retreated! Probably the start of the collapse of the Roman Empire! Another great Vid folks!
Hehe they were taking none of that from the Romans lol Nothing a 9 iron couldn't sort out 🤣. Actually only just heard about the Antoine wall! - it's amazing what you learn from people on here 😊 The Scots broke the Roman Empire - that's a good claim to fame 😉 Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching!
Yet another great video Sean & Emily, been off line for a while as touring in Spain, time to recharge the batteries now and enjoy the other uploads I've missed :)
Just up the road from my home, just for info most of the wall has been pinched to use for walls and farmhouses. The straight road is the Military Road but it was built a lot later in the Jacobean Wars, to take guns from Newcastle to defend Carlisle in a siege. The depression next to the wall is a Vallum, basically a moat. It’s a lovely area and my wife has just completed the Hadrian Wall route from Newcastle to the Solway Firth. PS. The Sill is a museum and the brewery is very good it looks out towards Sycamore Gap where the tree used to be…sorry to be a know it all but I’m a local🤣
Haha I did suspect those farm houses had A Hadrian’s wall tinge to them 🤣 Ahhh so not a Roman road, so much history in the Uk! That must have been a lovely walk, how long did that take you? Appreciate the usefulness local knowledge 😎👍🏻
@@SeanandEmily She did it in about 5 weekends but people do it in a week. So much Roman and other history locally, blessed to live here. Home town is Lincoln, famous for its Roman connections too.
Nice one! Yeah looks a peaceful place to live -nice and green too. Ah Lincoln, never been but after a quick google it reminds us of our home city of Chester (which we haven't been to for a long time)
After watching this it brings home just how big the Great Wall of China is, to think they built it over mountains and the full width of China both such an achievement, thanks for another great video
Loving the Aerial shots, sorry your probably sick of seeing this request, but can you tell me what Drone you are using, every shot i have seen has been awesome, esp liked my local Scottish footage
Hi Thomas, no problem it's the DJI Mini4 pro, a fantastic little drone that doesn't take up too much space in the panniers. Glad to hear you have been enjoying it, the footage form Scotland was out of this world!! 😎👍
It may be spelt Keswick but it's pronounced KEZZIK" (!) It's not pronounced "Kezwick". The Wall IS impressive with its regular mile castles, forts etc and Housesteads, Chesters and Corbridge in particular are worth a visit. Part of the wall follows the Whin Sill - so there is a steep escarpment with the Wall built at the top overlooking the land below on its northern side. It would have been impossible to get over THAT part of the Wall. Probably used more not to mark the "border" but as a wall with gates so you could control who comes in and out (and tax them if they want to bring goods in to sell them at a market on the other side!). Of course England and Scotland did not exist when the Wall was built in 122AD. The Venerable Bede described it as being about 12 feet highin his day (he, the "Father of British History", was writing about 600 years after the Wall was built). It is about 8 feet wide but both height and width probably changed at different points along its length according to local needs and the local geography. It is a World Heritage Site. It might be amusing but the story is that England's football captain, Bryan Robson (who comes from the North East of England and would know Hadrian's Wall) was on a tour with the national side to China. A trip to see the Great Wall of China had been arranged. He declined to go saying "If you've seen one wall (Hadrian's) you've seen them all..." Of course the best known sections of the wall in China, which we see in pubicity photgraphs etc are much more recently built - in the MIng Dynasty 1368-1644AD.
Yeah the wall really is impressive! Was good to finally see some of it 😊. Thanks for the information! Haha not sure it’s compares to the Great Wall of China although we’ve not seen it ourselves -hope is hasn’t ruined it now 🤣
We are not sure if we went to the best place to see the wall as this was our first time there too. Our route is in the comment section (pinned comment) so maybe this might help. According to the BBC 'The Gaels gave Scotland its name from 'Scoti', a racially derogatory term used by the Romans to describe the Gaelic-speaking 'pirates' who raided Britannia in the 3rd and 4th centuries.'' But yeah you are right the Romans used to call the people Caledonians .
Hadrian built the wall to establish the boundary of the Roman Empire but not of Roman power but he couldn’t stop the Scots from inventing deep fried mars bars
And once again the british tax payer are paying the Royal family !for what he hasnt approached his people not a dickie bird while we have lunatics running the government whydoes he agree with his pawns please we need to see something from the Royal Family.
There was no Scotland at the time. It was around 100 AD, way before the Scots. Hadrian, the Roman Emperor, wanted to separate the Roman Empire from the barbarians.

In England's green and pleasant land.😊

There was no Scotland at the time. It was around 100 AD, way before the Scots. Hadrian, the Roman Emperor, wanted to separate the Roman Empire from the barbarians.
Yes true, the Romans called it Caledonia I think, but I’m guessing the Caledonians later became the Scots 🤔
Caledonia was made up of several different tribes who later unified against their common enemy creating Scotland & the Scot’s .
