This video is amazing. It takes me back to my childhood before I moved to Northern Ireland I 1990. Growing up in Lancashire near the railway, I have fond memories of all these types of trains. Great job.
You're most welcome Neil....I must get round to visiting Ireland and it's railways.....Many thanks for your comment and for watching...best wishes...Mark
Love there were still 304s running - the first trains I ever went on from West Allerton to Lime St - and I used to use the Transpennine pulled by 47s to get to uni in Durham in the late 80s
@@EM-yk1dw sadly I must agree. My old Ganger would spin in his grave, if he could see the state Shrewsbury is in now. Video,,, "one day in severn" gives a good view of how our patch used to be . Happy days back then . 👍👍😀
Hattons model shop was just down Smithdown Lane, a short trot from Edge Hill Station. The buildings were saved from demolition by a national campaign in the 70s.
It’s interesting seeing the 31s on 4-coach sets, presumably they were the hourly Sheffield-Liverpool via Warrington expresses that were discontinued a year later when the TransPennine loco hauls were diverted via Manchester Picc and Newton-le-Willows, St Helens etc lost their quality services to Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds and York.
Thanks again for showing these films, great to see NSE 86401, a regular in and out of Manchester Piccadilly for a while, also good to see the 304 units, I've travelled hundreds of miles on those right from when they were first introduced, a bit bouncy but always got me where I needed to be.
Grotty old stations, but boy the railways of Britain had atmosphere and something to be proud of. We invented them and many others copied what they saw. It changed the world.
And here is a classic example of why the pacers were nicknamed nodding donkeys. Personally I loved the 142's as they were the staple on my previous Preston to Colne local line. My first ride was on board a GMPTE liveried 142. I still remember the adverts. You will feel like you are at home. Yeah, maybe whilst a 7.5 eathquake is taking place! 😂 Wasn't very keen on the multiple unit style NSE livery on locos, although the revised livery really did look very smart on any loco.
@@timstrainvideos142 No as all the 312/2's were Brum area ones and never saw that on the GE besides the Boat Trains were either loco hauled or 309's. I don't think (unless I'm corrected) that 312 is a true Dutch livery
Can we all agree that 142s are/were awful? When they came in, it meant that there was gravel and coal having a smoother ride than fare paying passengers.

Another great upload many thanks, the days before the Buddliea took over.
Bloody Budlea,,, bring back the Weedkiller train with a pair of Choppers . 😂

Great to see, at the end, the celebrity generator, 47406, at that time still named "Rail Riders". In fact, 47406 is on my layout as well!

what was up with the dutch ns livery on the emu? (at 13.00) was this some kind of merseyrail variation?
We had a 321 in Dutch for the London to Harwich Dutch Flyer Boat Train!
@@SteveS3667 was that emu transferred to the north west in the ns livery off the eastern region perhaps?

142s were individual tho, nothing like anything else really even 143s and 144s were different
were the BI there not so fuckingly damp, then I'm certain that those greasy segments of tracking would spontaneously combust
