This is that song that randomly gets stuck in my head so I sing it all the time. I had to sing it about 4 years ago in chorus and now it will never leave me.
Since Buttercup's name is in the title, you'd think that the song came out in the late 90s or the early 2000s, because that was when The Powerpuff Girls dominated Cartoon Network.
It seems a lot people in my age range (early 20's) know these songs because our parents play them on their computers and, now, mp3 players. I grew up with these songs in my household (besides my own selection of music, of course). And I like it.
Hey, its music guys, it ain't new music, and it ain't old music. Its just music. Music is timeless, and isn't held to one year or decade. The only thing that holds it is its meaning and each song holds a different meaning to each person.
+benjamin gallucio You can list all this neckbeard hippie bullshit all you want. People are going to discuss things, regardless of how trivial. Complaining about it is arguably anti-social, borderline retarded behavior.
+benjamin gallucio I must say I agree with your views, you have a lot of common sense which eludes many people, I have a quote that i like and I will share it with you " if only closed minds came with closed mouths"....hope it makes you smile......
This is one of my favorite songs of all time. Every time I hear it, it brings me back to when my mom and I would drive somewhere and this song would turn on. We would always somehow just know who would sing what, whether it was the background singer or the lead. Looking back then, that was one of the happiest moments of my life. I hope someone has a memory like that too when they listen to this song.
A song that would make u happy in present but if remembered in past with someone it changes into a sad song.... What a creative artist who composed this music
I care if a 14 year old digs this Classic! I view that as a good omen for our cultural/musical future. Why such harsh, angry verbiage from a "lady"? #AnotherAngryFeminist?
I remember listening to a lite-rock station with so much of this music as a young adult in the mid to late 80s, so I have sort've delayed reaction memories as far as the actual era. I associate this song in the same way as other people do. People then still listened to this music a lot, so it wasn't "dated." I feel like I have the same associations to it.
Morning playlist to start the day off right: 1. Build Me up Buttercup 2. It's a beautiful morning 3. Wake me up before you go go 4. Morning train Instant good mood
I can't help but smile every time I listen to this song because I remember when I was on 7th grade, a bunch of guys in my choir class (who were normally jerks) got together and practiced this song and during our concert they brought an elderly woman up on stage and started singing this to her and she started crying she was so happy.
Apart from "There's Something About Mary", this song has only been in one other feature length film; Bob the Butler. But it's been in one episode of Beverly Hills 90120, Alias and Dancing with the Stars
1920's = Best Jazz Music 1930's = Best Blues Music 1940's = Best Swing Music 1950's = Best Country Music 1960's = Best Rock Music 1970's = Best Funk Music 1980's = Best Synth Music 1990's = Best Rap Music
Amanda Layton I am at leat 4 times older than you (you do the math) but in my mind you are so right. I really think that is objective. When I look back I cannot beat in my head The Beatles, The Stones, 10cc, The Mamas and the Papas, The Eagles, Stealers Wheel, Tamla Motown, David Bowie, Queen, Carole King, Judy Collins, Janis Ian, Jonie Mitchell, Crosby Stills and Nash, Wings, Linda Ronstadt, Kris Kristofferson, Rita Coolidge, etc etc
Amanda Layton You have to remember that we're only listening to the highlights of the past, they had their fair share of terrible music, we just don't remember that. But your'e right, and a big part of the reason is that at about the turn of the century Simon Cowell and the big music companies realised there was much more money to be made only producing a small few bands and advertising them fiercely, they don't make anywhere near as much music as they used to. Most of these bands would't get a record deal in the 21st century. That's why we have the indie music.
16 and listen to music older than my Grandma(30s and 40s big band/swing) and I also like 50s Rock and roll (Elvis and Little Richard etc.) I do enjoy some Johnny Cash as well. I might consider trying Ragtime now...
This was played at my great aunts funeral. This was her favorite song. Her nickname was buttercup. During the reception the church played this song for her before we all said goodbye one last time. I’ll miss you forever, Buttercup.
Am I the only 16 year old that prefers old songs like this to new ones? D: Growing up in a house with fairly "older" parents than others I always heard a bit of Motown, Dolly Parton, Billy Joel etc in my house and grew up to love older songs. Please tell me I'm not the only one? D:
You aren't the only one, I'm 11 but my parents love all of those artists. But I'm more into stuff like Lindsey Stirling, but I've always loved this song❤🎉
I will forever remember this as the 2016 New York trip song, didn't know what the local radio station was so I was stuck listening to this song over and over again on a cd.
I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS SONG!!! I forgot the name of this song and I forgot every lyric, the artist, everything! I only knew that I liked a song close to this style of music. I have been looking through the recommended videos to every video that resembles this music and I FINALLY found it!!!
When I listen to this song it reminds me of the summer of 2014. I was new to Nevada, no friends, no foes. Just me and the comforting smell of the hot desert sand, warm breezes of relaxation. I would go ride my bike off into the quite mountains that surrounded the madness of screaming tourists excited to win big in good ol' Las Vegas. This song would be in my ears from time to time, when I felt lost in an ocean dry land, something about this guys voice would cheer me on, push me further, breathe deeply and look ahead. Those days are coming back very soon, maybe then I will lose this curse of typing like Hunter S Thompson, although, I think I'll just blame the weed.
I first heard this song when my grandmother drove me to middle school, on her workout playlist it just came up out of nowhere, she said she didn’t know where it came from. I thought it Sounded nice :)
I remember the first time I really remember hearing this song. We were at a band show and my whole band was singing along with it and I picked up on it quick and now it’s one of my favorite
Tyler Stalinescu Well that's true but i don't like dubstep, rap, pop and new rock. Pop and rap objektifies women and dubstep is just some loud noices and new rock is just pathetic screams into the microphone and some actually bad or good gituarr riffs or some pussy shit boy band with no talents at all. But there's some good rock-a-billy out there and some good jazz aswell so i understand your argument:)
Makkesirjulf Malmgertyrfäddur I don't enjoy dubstep either, but there are some pretty good subgenres of EDM. And when you say new rock, do you mean all rock (alternative, punk, indie, pop rock, etc.)?
this song is very special to me because at my father's wedding this was the song for the daddy daughter song. it makes me cry with tears of joy every time.
Singing this in choir, and I’m so freaking glad! It’s nice to be singing something other than gibberish songs like Ching A Ring Chaw, and folk songs like I Bought Me A Cat. Finally, we get to sing real songs! We have also started Sweet Caroline. However, only the 8th graders get to do the BUM BUM BUM. I can’t wait till next concert!
I'm on 5th grade and in my art class I played this then all my classmates said to turn it off because they said it was old and boring so my teacher let my have it on and put the song louder because she also likes this song a nice song like this should not be forgotten
taco in my tummy that’s amazing. I have a friend who absolutely hates old feelgood songs, she says they’re too slow for her, so whenever I can I play things like this as loud as I can. She hates it. It’s great
Rest in Paradise Grandma. This was one of the last songs you listened to before you passed. We still think about you everyday. This ones to you. Love you.
I can see why so many young people listen to songs of yesterday.
They want great music.
We were lucky to have lived during such times.
They can only dream of it.

As a young person, I couldn't agree more
I'm 15, and I couldn't agree with you any more...

but some are better than others xD

Brings back so many great memories from this time period. This song never gets old.

Love this Great memories of the sixtys
Why are there so many die hard oldies here? Why can't we just all enjoy what we like, no matter the generation?
That's because most of the music today sucks. But there's some good music now but not much.
Makkesirjulf Malmgertyrfäddur Most *pop* music sucks. If that's all you listen to, then I'm sorry.
Tyler Stalinescu no i mean pop rock and scream rock( i don't know what to call it, isn't like groual or something?)
I love this song and my sister and I would listen to it when she came over before she passed away it makes me sad but happy at the same time
Imagine what it would be like if the Ooh-ooh-ooh part went on forever.
Horrible. That’s what it would be like.
this song is very special to me because at my father's wedding this was the song for the daddy daughter song. it makes me cry with tears of joy every time.
this is literally the sadest song on the planet

The song is actually really depressing
Singing this in choir, and I’m so freaking glad! It’s nice to be singing something other than gibberish songs like Ching A Ring Chaw, and folk songs like I Bought Me A Cat.
