I had never heard of Ale-8 until I attended University of the Cumberlands back in 1998. They had an Ale-8 machine in the lobby of the Rollins Center. I have been hooked ever since.
I’ve had Ale 8 One my whole life. Ale-8-1 is the name. A Late One is the slogan. My wife is from Winchester. We get milk, bread, eggs and ale 8 one. Nobody calls it A Late One
@@StoriesofAppalachia 🎯 I failed to mention we call it Ale 8 for everyday use and grocery lists. 😆 Original and then orange are my favorites. I’m sort of addicted.
For many a years, just certain stores and vending machines was the only places you could get an Ale81. Around Ky only! They eventually got it in other states! I know back in the 70’s , you couldn’t find it in SW Ohio, the only thing you could get that was close to ALE8 was Vernors or Canada Dry. Oh and there was certain vending machines around Central Ky you would get an Ale81 out of and then pop the top on the bottle and ice would form in it, even in the middle of summer and boy they were great that way! There used to be a vending machine sitting out front of this little country store in Millersburg Ky and those Ale8’s would be ice cold, and there was another machine in front of a little store in Winchester, was the same way!
I have had the salsa and remember when it was first introduced. It is excellent, the best tasting salsa around , it has a hint of sweetness and heat to it, a perfect blend. If you have or get the chance at least give it a try, you won’t regret it and your taste buds will thank you. It is really really good.
I see it in all the grocery stores that I shop at here in Kingsport but have never tried it. I will now that I know about it's origin. I am sure that you guys are aware that Mountain Dew was first bottled in Johnson City!
We’ve told the story of Mountain Dew in one of our older audio podcasts and, yes, it has origins from all over East TN and SW VA from Johnson City to Marion. It’s truly an Appalachian soft drink. Thanks for watching!
I grew up on Ale8. Nothing else like it.
Went to college in KY. Love ale 8!
Another great one guys thank you ❤

whitesburg, from Letcher County, Payne Gap. Still have the mountain right by highway 23. Has Payne Gap Cave system inside the mountain.
Why was six scared of seven? Because seven eight nine! (Say it out loud. It was hilarious in kindergarten.)

RC Cola began in Columbus, Georgia.
People actually from Kentucky call it Ale 8... no one calls it a late one 😂
tastes like ginger ale to me
Really good poured on ice.
I was raised drinking ale 8. he knew what idiot stood for , a late one, but we always just called it L8 1
What about Double Cola I have not saw any of it in 40 years or more I taught it tasted like RC Cola .
RC cola is better in a glass bottle.
