If you're like me, always looking to improve your game then i'd like to share with you 5 tips & tricks that have really boosted me as a player
1:17 Unit Clumping - We'll look at what this is and ways you can avoid it ended up in tears. At the end of this section i'll show you why support weapons clump together in cover and how to work around it
6:05 Tab Cycling - Making your attacks fast and widespread is important in successful pushes for territory. I focus on how you can use indirect fire as part of a quick aggressive push.
9:27 Event Cue - One the most underused elements of the game that keeps you on top of every engagement. I'll tell you how you can use this to better counter sniper play too.
13:36 Hotkeys & Micro Training - A little explanation of how you can train yourself to get faster at the game. It's honestly worth putting some time aside to practice vs AI in order to get better in automatch.

every RTS for the last 25 years has this feature.
This might be an older guide but as a new player it is overwhelming to try and keep track of all unit on the battlefield. With this guide it has extremely helped me not feel like I’m scrambling to keep my front in tacked.

I find it's very useful in making sure you keep the ranks consistent :)
I think it's a tip that can be applied to many games even if they don't show it you can sort of note down the quickest time you get a game and then use that as a benchmark

Great video though. The unit clumping is a serious offense I've been making quite ignorantly it seems. The Tab Cycling will also help a ton. Good stuff man!
Unit Clumping has been an issue for a lot of people. I think over time I've just found ways of looking at the game which don't ever create clumping situations. You'll rarely ever see me put a support weapon in close proximity cover now and that's saved me a lot of times. Hopefully it will for you too!

This really is useful! Haven't played any online matches yet :p i feel like I'll get wrecked but after winning the campaign and a dozen custom matches and scenarios I've built up confidence.
Decided to play against hard CPU enemy and HOLY MOLY is it difficult!
I knew there was something i was missing because i just couldn't get myself to make any progress, let alone win the match.
I've watched a couple beginner guides but honestly this one had points that were a first for me.
Honestly, looking back at the matches against hard CPU i see that it's exactly these points i needed to progress.
And honestly frick that cpu twat im going for online matches to hopefully get matched with starters like me haha.

Hard and Expert CPU can be a slog but you'll get there. The trick is to be cutthroat and deny as much territory as possible to stop the AI being able to mass tanks etc.
It's great training though for reaction skills and excellent for learning hotkeyS!
main problem with hard AI is it gets more resources for same territory than you do, cant remember if it is 50% or 100% more. So as Stormless says, cut as much opportunity for them to gain resources and new units as you can.

Thanks for making this, I have recently come back to the game and while I used to win quite a bit, now I can't seem to win, so looking to up my game. I suppose I should let the hot key training begin!
No problem. I'll be looking into some faction specific tutorials soon so hopefully you'll get some build orders and things to use. You should definitely check out some tournament casts or Twitch streams to see what the current meta is.

Useful video, thanks man. Bit confused though .. I don't run any mods (including maps), but the game tells me I've reached a daily limited for modded games - even though, as I said, I'm haven't got a modded game. I think when the game first came out I had a couple of maps, but I'm no longer subscribed to them, and they've also been removed in-game too .. mods folder is empty etc. Any idea why I might be having this xp issue when my game is no longer modded?
Playing since the release, rank 33 usf and still didnt know about the automatch algorythm. I never used tab cycling or event cue so thats something i might try next time :).
I don't think there are many players,possibly any players who use all the tools in the game properly. The person who can nail it all will be one hell of a player :)
Very helpful, even for being fairly high ranked the event queue and ELO tip was very nice to learn. I'd also add that certain hotkeys are particularly useful to learn as a priority (snares, retreat, and evacuation come to mind).
Do you have a preference for classic or grid hotkeys? I don't know if there was a widespread agreement among top players if one is better than the other.

At the higher levels I think it's fairly split if i'm honest. I know that Luvnest used grid keys due to his crazy way of playing with the arrow keys to move map AND micro'ing grid keys with one hand (That's full keyboard span micro with 1 hand!!!) However most of the players i've spoke to about it used classic as this felt most natural coming from CoH1.
I don't see many particular advantages of one over the other if i'm honest
Most people I have spoken with who are top players are using Classic hotkeys but I think this is because they came over from CoH1 and just were used to that system. I don't see major advantages in either, I personally feel like Classic gives me more accuracy training on the keyboard :)

I would honestly prefer Classic hotkeys in CoH but this is just a personal preference. There is no consensus on which is better at the moment. Top players in the game use both

Best video from this game bro congrats! As a new player in 2018, it served me a lot! Now, do you know which stat is better for machine guns? 10% reload faster or 4% increased rate of fire? I would really appreciate it.
I would always say the 4% faster firing.
The reason is that you will be able to suppress units on your first burst quickly whereas sometimes your mg won't do that till burst 2.
This bulletin helps suppression which is the purpose of the MG.

However, i have a few questions:
1) What am i doing wrong when i have good stats but still lose the game
2)How can you counter OKW sturmpioneers? I have a british rifle squad engaging them. They get closer to the rifles, obv my rifles get shredded into pieces if they stay too long. I only see 2 options: a) rifles fall back, get shot in the back and get heavy losses, losing the point. b) stay where you are and die
3) why do people use volks and upgrade them with the stg44, if pioneers only cost 50 manpower more, but also can repair vehicles and build stuff etc ?

Thank you :) Some interesting questions... I'll try to shed some light on this but a lot of this will come with experience
1. Good stats do not mean you should win by default. You could have endless kills and resources but if you don't hold the map and control VPs you won't be victorious. It sounds as though you are probably fighting good engagements but not putting enough focus on territory control and the ultimate objective of capturing VPs. You should try to dominate VPs as much as possible during the game without sacrificing resource control.
2. OKW Sturmpioneers are great starting units but that is about it. The best way to engage them is to take shots at range or whilst they are moving (they have less accuracy whilst moving) and never stick around in close range battles unless you are in a building. Even then you should be careful. If you can find medium or green cover and then fire at them till they come close, you will do good health damage. It's best for you to keep engaging them at range in the early game. Later on when you have veterancy and upgrades, they wont be able to get near you and you'll find them less effective.
3. Sturmpioneers are only 4 men squads and they are a higher cost to reinforce than Volks which is one of the main reasons. The other big reason is that Sturms are effective in close range and not at distance, so you need volks in order to have any decent longer range engagements as you are running around. The STg44 upgrades don't necessarily mean volks are good at close range because only a few models receive this weapon. It just means the squad is better on the move and better than close/mid range than before.
Sturmpioneer repair speed is very good. There's no reason for you to really need more than 1 or 2 on the battlefield. The support package upgrade (minesweepers) will also make your repairs even faster and 1 sturmpio can repair at the same speed at 3 soviet engineers lol.

I'll try to put an emphasis on capturing VP as i mainly got my playing experience from theses maps where you have 1 bridge and completely slaughter experts AI with no real player input lmao

Yes, if you're playing PvP you need to focus on VPs more and denying your opponents resources. PvP maps aren't so narrow either. The way you move and defend yourself in open spaces in critical. You should check out Twitch streamers or TH-cam casts to see how people play at top level there. I think you'll pick it up quite quickly
Countering sturms is fairly easy with the British units using the age old basics of warfare: if you dont know what to do, flank. Use your long distance rifles and mgs to tie the enemy down and keep them in contact. Even if they advance move a short range unit like commandos or engineers (try to up them as soon as u can) to give them crossfire from either side. Or just use a bren w a flamethrower.
You really dont need any high tier units to win the game with the brits. Recon the next target you want to take. Keep 1 squad ahead of your main strike force (ideally with a piat and an mg so he can keep contact with anything. Behind the point squad keep an HMG and some AT so you can counter what ever your point squad runs into. Keep your flanks secure and flank the enemy position with your infantry. You can build and use specialised squads for this if you like. Try to keep some eyes in all shady directions.
Thats the basics of it.
1)Move into contact
2 flank the crap out out of the enemy
3 dig in, secure the area and patch you troops up again.
4 rinse and repeat
I play with basically only infantry and an at gun or 2. Depending on the map you might want to use bren carriers to transport your forces faster, but only do that behind your lines where its safe. Finding a good defencible spot on the map that controls key routes and or resources is a good start with Brits while keeping med and supply not far behind your main positions.
Not sure if this was useful but i found that if you play an infantry heavy build for a while it really improves your micromanagement and understanding of tactics. From there its quite easy to bring some mortars, tanks etc. In as support vehicles.

Mainblocks just take a little time to just play some AI with hitkeys early. You don't need to do it for long before it becomes automatic muscle memory. Once you have that imprint you never need to even think about it again
Nice vid Stormless. I hope many will find this useful (i already knew everything:-)).
But one thing i don't know, its about the searching.
Let say you wait for 2 minutes or so and you cant find a game with an equally skilled player, as you said the game will search for anyone. What if a equally skilled player gets in the search - pool after this 2 minutes, will the game recognize this and pair you with him or has the ship sailed?

With regards to the search I believe it's open to a first come first serve connection. So when you expand to that within 100 - 400 ranks, it will take the first game it can find in that banding. I'm afraid I don't know the precise amount of time it takes for each rank banding to expand but doing this every 2 minutes or so keeps you amongst even skill. I may go to Relic to see if they can give me the accurate information on timings and rank bands.
I should add really that this doesn't take into account people who are doing placement games but this seemed a bit complicated to get into.

Hi what do u think of autohotkeys? (Program allowing you to customise keys e.g. mapping WASD as the directional keys)
Guanghan Deng my recommendation is to not do it. If you are using grid keys you could maybe put the arrow keys on 'YGHJ' so your hand is still relatively in the same area but you will be a much faster player if your hand is always in one area of the keyboard to hit hotkeys quicker. Have you tried using tac map or mini map clicking? The aim is to not even look at the keyboard and be able to accurately hit hotkeys and this is much harder when 1 hand is trying to control hotkeys and camera.
I actually know some people with incredible micro who use both grid keys and arrow keys and mouse but they are top 5 level and quite frankly outstanding levels of micro..(one of these is Luvnest)
Everyone develops their own style which is something I love about RTS. Whilst I advise you I don't think it's the most efficient way of doing it, if you can make it work at competitive level then I'm all for it :)

I use X-mouse (same as autokey) to remap the tactical map to my mouse 4 button. this means I just use my Thumb to open the map quickly and click where I need to be. I've got another tutorial on my TH-cam which explains how to do this if you're interested. highly recommend that

Jimmy Liu I've tried to section it so you can skip to what you want to learn rather than see it all. I find it difficult to get emphasis on the importance of these things in a short amount of time but it's something I will work on for future works

I have 2 questions:
1: if I play as Soviet & build 2 same building, does production get faster? Because T34-76 build time is so slow when need in late game.
2: I played for a year, my skill rank is 10, if I play with my friend who just played for a week with skill rank 2, whats the skill rank of our 2 opponents will be?
C3WhiteRose Hope this explains what you need:
1. Unit production time can't change with multiples of the same building. all that would allow you to do is build 2 tanks at the same time. You should be able to get T-34/76 on the field in around 13-15 minutes if you've skipped tier 3 and had average map control.
2. You would have a team rank with that player which you can check on the ingame leaderboards. The first 10 games you play with any mix of people are called placement games. This means you play 10 games together against people of all skill levels to find out what your 2v2 team rank is. After 10 games you and that person have your own unique rank together
does that all make sense?
C3WhiteRose of course when you are ranked, you will be finding opponent teams around your team rank

Hi Stormless, whats the fastest way to 'pan camera' left right like pros? Do they use 'scroll wheel button' or 'edge of screen' scrolling?
You'll be surprised how varied it is tbh. There is no consensus on what is best. Some examples are:
Luvnest - uses tactical map to move camera position.
HelpingHans - uses arrow keys only
I personally click on the minimap to jump to a location and edge the corners of the screen on a low mouse edge setting if I need to move to a close area.
I would check out my other tutorial and get your mouse button 4 set to tactical map. I actually agree with the Luvnest method that the tactical map gives you the best overall picture of the battlefield and gives you a very quick jump location tool

cheers for the video mate, i bought the game recently and i was struggling with matches and always getting frustrated. btw, in your opinion, how many companies should have on the field? I’m putting for example, 2 Infantry and 2 Engineers plus the officers.
If you're starting out the standard is pretty much 3 basic infantry squads, a machine gun, AT gun, a special unit such as shock troops/rangers/commandos or call-in unit, then 1 light vehicle to 1 medium/heavy vehicle.
If you are using a specifc faction I could write you out a quick build if you like?
Stormless Im currently using the Brits and the Americans
So for USF I would recommend playing airborne:
Rifleman
Rifleman
Rifleman
Ambulance (leave in base to heal)
Upgrade to Lieutenant (use this as light anti tank)
Paratroopers. when they unlock, equip with double LMG
Tech up the Lieutenant tier to allow vehicles to build
Build a Stuart tank
Drop AT from commander and crew with echelons. (it's good to crew with echelons because echelons have a bigger sight range which helps the AT gun)
Now tech up to Major Tier
Build a Sherman Tank or Jackson as needed.
(Tip: if your Stuart tank is still alive, take the crew out and put the veterancy crew into your new tank. It makes your new tank stronger)

I would usually always say go for Sherman then Jackson in most cases. If the enemy is building bigger tanks or you have lost your AT gun, the Jackson may be better and you can focus on infantry.
The Paratroopers are a key unit here always tr tk move them with 'attack move' as they will foght very well at long range with their double lmgs.
If you find yourself with extra resources. Always unlock weapon racks and put BAR weapons on your rifleman.

Learned a few things, especially tip 2 which I didn't ever use before.
I actually learned to use hotkeys simply because the game crashes to the desktop when I manually click any action. Only happens when I'm like 20 minutes into playing and sometimes the hotkeys don't work but the click only does. (sturmpio shrecks)
That sounds like the strangest bug ever. I assume reinstalling hasn't worked? Perhaps you have another program using hotkeys which is conflicting or something, I hope you get it resolved!

Hi there.
I don't have any videos on setting up AI games. You should press Skirmish or online vs AI to search for those games or you can use the custom lobby.
If that isn't working you may have a game issue you need to message customer support for but it's unlikely.

How can I mass up tanks earlier! I mean I see people running a 5 tank squad
I think you can do a couple of things:
1. Play a commander that drops fuel resource (Such as Ostheer Luftwaffe) and boost your fuel income. My personal favourite for Ostheer is actually 'Assault Support Commander' as the Opel Blitz gives you a constant passive income of supply from the territory it's setup in. (Little trick with the Opel Blitz - don't waste it on a fuel point. Stick in a normal territory point next to your base and you'll get boosted fuel AND munitions without it being in danger!)
2. Capture as much of the map as you possibly can. Territory points add up your fuel income so the more you have, the quicker you'll get fuel. Capturing fuel only points isn't always the best option. It is quicker to capture 2 standard territory points than 1 fuel point, and the resulting resources are actually better than 1 fuel point alone, so focus on those.
3. Use commander call-ins. These can sometimes be cheaper call in tanks or vehicles which you can mass up without needing to build them. The British can call in a Valentine tank from Artillery Regiment commander which is fairly cheap. If you play AEC and Cromwell quickly, decent players can have all 3 on the field in 15 minutes.

Yes, I am a complete Noob and I am horrible at this game, but I come from MOW and I consistently find my self getting annoyed. I'll be able to place a few units there, but I can't help myself but worry they are going to get flanked because the map is soooo big. What should I do?

Hello there.I need help.How can I save people who got shot?I mean if someone got shot he didn't die but wounded and still moving.Help me.
You can't save these people. When a model dies it will crawl around and give you some sight range in that area until he dies. In CoH1 you could do this with medic stations but this is not a CoH2 feature.
Wermacht can also interrogate models that are dying to get full map recon of their opponent from some commanders like Lightning War. You should always try to kill enemy models you see like this or use an ability like interrogate on them if you have it
my biggest problem is getting kills. Even in matches i win and even boss my opponent around I usually have 20 or more less kills. Only games were the skill level is dramatically noticeably lower do i out kill the enemy. This is in 1v1 mostly US.
It sucks i haven’t had a gaming PC until my friend let me borrow his laptop the other day. I’ve been wanting to play company of heroes since I heard of the first one in 07 , but I fear I’m too late and too new to this genre to get the most out of this series bow
I think you're at a good time actually. The game has only in the last few years opened a serious competitive scene and is growing more pro players. There are still plenty of new entries who are making names for themselves :)

Any tips for dealing with British bofors?
The best way to deal with Bofors is to force it to brace and then try to get it with fire or grenades etc. Fire damage is the most effective way to deal with it and you can force it to brace with a mortar or indirect fire of your own.
Ostheer has a great counter in the 251 halftrack with the flame projector upgrades.
OKW rely a little more on the incendiary grenades.When you throw any incendiary grenades, try to do it near the end of the brace so that the flame ground damage continues when brace has finished.
Its sad because when i open the CoH 2 it says “0xc0000142” and i tried to fix it using youtube but none of them work

Map control in what sense? Do you mean how to take and hold areas of the map?
@@StormlessUK yup. Though, I am getting an inclination that the rvent manager will help me out with that. Also just checked some replays I got and noticed I play a tad too passively. There are lots of idle units where I put them.
Yeah. Map control is usually more about how much you are forcing your opponent back into his base than actually holding the points. You shouldn't be afraid to move all around the map and try your best to manage and win engagements all over. The more you harass your opponent head on the less likely he will be capping your points.
how does your game seems to apper with great graphics? mine looks like shit and I don't find where to put it on "ultra" or something like that
I've maxed out the graphics in game and I've got the Nvidia gtx1080 GEforce program doing something with it too.
I find that in the past my best setting for AA is medium which also helps performance but other than that I max everything out. What gpu do you have?
@@StormlessUK I found how to change graphics quality , before launching any match . Click menu and then graphics and there you can change everything . If you doing while playing you won't be able. Right now I just have the integrated Vega 11 from the Ryzen 5 2400g , it runs the game at 30fps at high settings , mid AA
@@isra_dlg Yes, all settings have to be changed outside of the in-game screen.
30fps seems a bit low though, is your gpu using all of its power when CoH is running?

If you want to ping in game you can press crtl + A to send an 'attack' ping

Do you mean directional facing? If you have a unit selected and right-click drag you can select which way the weapon faces. E. G
You can pick which way to face an MG
and you allways have enough time for setting the camera and place the troops properly :D sure thing...

No you can't. You need to be out of the tactical map to reinforce

@@StormlessUK I find it strange that you can't do some actions in the tactical map, especially reinforcing due to how easy it is to tell when they get back looking at it.
@@TheEpicPancake I've always debated whether that's good or not because I wouldn't want to see people playing entirely off of the tactical map.
I think the idea of the tac map is mainly just to help you move large amounts quickly and form an overall push or strategy. It was way better when you had attack cap and defend markers from CoH1!
I'm not sure I'd like to see players reinforcing from this window if I am honest with you. Seems too easy.
Remember that if you are good with hot keys you can reinforce or build from the base without ever looking back in your base so it's already possible in some way.
Do you feel it would make your game more enjoyable?
@@StormlessUK I dunno, I can't exactly say I'm all that great at the game seeing as I only have 10 hours in it. I just thought it would be quite a good quality of life thing, especially in the later game when it gets harder to estimate when your unit gets back.
I would suggest for the new players replacing the hotkeys with QWER for the first row and so on its easier to learn
6:00 dont worry about cover - what about british? they are pretty much designed to be in cover. is it worth losing the dps and accuracy for the survivability? are the game devs that dumb that they would design a faction that is so opposed to the meta?
This tip was mainly for support weapons to help players reduce the impact of indirect fire splash damage caused by models clumping together in cover postions.
You have to make the choice each time as to what suits you best but at the time this was made people seemed to neglect the fact that you could position all your models and stop clumping happening.
Of course it's always better to be in cover if you can spread your units out along that cover. Don't get them all bunched up because you will suffer for it

I didn't bother watching the video all the way through, but in case he didn't mention it and on the very remote chance that someone hasn't discovered it for themselves, (I discovered it and so I am fairly sure millions of others have), but if you play as the Americans, then you can sort of cheat to get a much higher manpower level than normal. Basically, buy a tank and have the crew abandon it as though they are repairing it, the tank only counts as 4 against your population count and not 10 or 12. Do this over and over as much as you can, then when you reach your limit, you simply get all of the crews to man their vehicles and your population count will be over double what they allow.

You hold 'alt' to move the camera
If you need to return to the default camera hit backspace twice. Hitting backspace once will restore the vertical default and the second time will restore the horizontal default

In single player you can press 'escape' to pause the game.
You can't pause in multiplayer modes

Haha, the AI for normal to expert difficulty is a little different. Actually the more territory you take etc the more the AI will fight you etc. It will pretty much counter everything you build too :P
If you can get to Hard AI with using hotkeys only you'll be in a really good place :)

Currently I am just casting CoH2 tournaments and hosting events. I've taken a long break from streaming to focus on study and work right now

gongal maybe at lower level this is true due to stronger axis late game. In the tournament scene allies have overwhelmingly dominant win rates in previous patches.
This current patch in December is very good so I hope 5o see that change. If you check out my tournament spreadsheet you can see this data

Best option is to find some buddies who don't mind showing you the ropes in some team games and watching tournaments & tutorials. There's also a great website (CoH2.org) which has lots of resources for people learning to play as well.

Not ever holding enough ground (about 40%). Not noticing a unit somewhere is dying. Can't find a counter to german shrek spam. If I send in a tank, it gets rekt by at. If I send in infantry, they get mowed down by the tanks. I can't form a proper charge
