While it might be hard to pick my favorite moment of the 2012 London Summer Olympics Opening Ceremony, I keep gravitating back to this one totally epic scene, which has made me enamored with this Caliban monologue as one of my Shakespearean monologue favorites.

I think it was one of the greatest opening ceremonies in the history of the games, Sir Kenneth sealed the deal. This was awesome
Still watch it to this day, hence me commenting on it.

Be not afeard, be not afeard. The Isle is full of noises. Sounds and sweet airs that give delight and hurt not. Sometimes, a thousand twangling instruments will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices. But if I then had waked after long sleep, will make me sleep again: and then, in dreaming, the clouds methought would open and show riches ready to drop upon me. That when I waked, I cried to dream again.

I was never a Shakespeare fan at school but this is a wondeful quote, combined with the very rousing 'Nimrod' from Enigma Variations by Elgar is a fantastic moment

I’ll never forget this moment. I was working at the London Olympic Games in security when I was 18. I was working that night at the Olympic park surrounding the stadium in the middle where it was all happening and had a 30 minute break at the moment 2 stunt people parachuted out of the helicopter pretending to be James Bond and The Queen. I watched the ceremony the following day. I’ll never forget it

So if there was any doubt - we now know that Ken Branagh DEFINITELY recommended this piece of music to Chris Nolan for Dunkirk! There’s no piece of music like Edward Elgar’s masterpiece to convey the regal beauty of England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Organizing Committee for the 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony be like:
Chair: "Right, so do we want to stage this in a way so that people from outside the UK have any idea what the heck this is all about?"
Everyone: "No. This is for us."

keneth branagh is the GOAT, he can make you laugh with Shakespeare or make you recoil as a villain. He's got an astounding amount of range. I honestly think he deserved an Oscar for Tenet, the way he goes psycho in that movie is truly a feat of acting.
My favorite actor ever, by far (sorry Jack Nicholson).

Welcome to 2021 where cultural nationalism is all but dead in Britain. What has befallen on us during a decade that has almost past? Autonomy, National identity, Self-determination and solidarity are now dirty words used by the far left to discredit those with right leaning ideologies. I come to this clip often, seeking solace, and to be patriotically fulfilled, and I never cease to leave without feeling it. Bravo Elgar, Shakespeare and Kenneth Branagh.
Last but not least, Come on England!
