You talked about the one shoe pressing on the outer part of your foot and having to reshape it. Though each foot is different from the other, I suspect the shoes had been returned after someone heat molded one of them (in spite of Lake's policy of not taken back molded shoes). I bought a pair of CX 332s directly from Lake. One shoe had the telltale signs of having been heat molded: the outer heel bolster did not have the smooth swell to it, and the red dot on the out sole was marred from having sat on a heated surface. Also, from a retailer, I acquired the CX403s. The right shoe had been molded, as well. It had the same pain point that you encountered. It was subtle, however, when looking from over the top of the shoe, I could see the heel counter was pressed in forming a "V" rather than a "U" shape.
The CX403s are very comfortable shoes and cradle the foot. The skewed BOAs and wide spread between them, keep the shoe from press or constricting across the top of the foot.

I am really glad you encouraged me to take a chance in these shoes. I love the feel of the solid carbon platform. I can’t wait to order a couple of pairs in the really awesome colors they come in 😊

I’m glad you are happy with the CX403. I guess the heat molding we did took care of the little hot spot you had when the shoes were new?

Thanks for making this review. It really helps those who have no access to a good LBS and have to rely on online platforms. At about 09:55, I heard it as "I was checking out the rider in front" XD. Jk. One minor observation; when reviewing shoes and talking about fit/sizing, it really helps us even better when reviewer includes foot measurements. There is also a very good video from "Cycling in Southern California".

ha ha I was looking IN FRONT of the rider 😊 Is it possible you have not watched the previous videos in this series? I included the links in the description on this being the 3rd video in my saga to find a Lake Cycling shoe that fits 😭 Here I have provided a link specifically when I talk about my measurements. I generally don't like to repeat information I have already talked about in previous videos. I want someone to watch all my videos 😉 😉 😉 th-cam.com/video/Mv0BQLmasaE/w-d-xo.html

The thing that the Lake measurement chart doesn’t take into account is the use of arch support. If you use an after market arch supporting insole then it’s quite likely that your foot will be jacked up slightly, and therefore shortening the length of the foot.
I had a similar issue as you; measuring up as a 44, but finding it a bit too big. Tried a 43.5, which shouldn’t have worked according to the size chart, and they’re perfect.

Yup... Lake shoe won't stretch. My about 10 year old Lake CX331 has all kind of wear but still exactly same shape around where it matters. In fact, I would not be changing this other than the fact now they offer extra wide size which actually will fit me much better! (the shoe is a little long on length for my feet...)

    Hi George.
Thanks for your videos. I wonder if you could advise me… am in process of trying to buy some Lake shoes - or another brand if I can’t come right. No stock in our country so not able to try all the different models in my size. But today the distributor gave me a paid of Cx403’s to try, and see if I could get them to fit well. I tried them on with her, and had same issue you describe - Ie pain on side where carbon panel ends and upper starts. She said I could take home, and heat mold, to see if fixes issue.
Since - as you point out - they won’t adapt to your feet and stretch - Is crucial I can get rid of this pain and get comfy, else will always be a problem. So - could you advise please whether you were able to mold yours so they took them from pain, to awesome? Or do you think is a red flag, and should rather avoid them?
Much thanks. Cheers from South Africa

PS probably not relevant - but the shoes are size 45 wide.

IF the discomfort or pain is on the transition from the carbon to the fabric upper I was able to remove the pressure point on the right side of the right foot. The shoes are awesome now! Thank You for watching my video and posting a comment. Please subscribe!

@@SeeYouUpTheRoad thanks for the reply. Actually- after a few attempts in the oven - I couldn’t get the side of the shoe to move so wasn’t causing discomfort. I returned the trial pair of shoes, and gave up on Lake (no stock of other options here). And have now bought a pair of Bontrager XXX’s. Will see how those go. Cheers

Hello, I cooked my shoes. Left shoe worked nicely; however, the left shoe heel does not want to conform. Thus, my heel does not go all the way back in the shoe and my toes are touching the front of the shoe. Contacted Lake and they are unresponsive. Any ideas?

So I measure exact same length as you however, my foot is about 5-6 mils wider. This puts me right at the edge of the width for a 45.5 standard. Given that you liked the extra width in the 45.5. Would you recommend a 45.5 Wide for me?

Hello Ryan - As I understand your comment (with numbers) your foot is right at the edge of the standard shoe at 100 but your foot is 5-6 mmm wider than 100 the wide goes up to 110.8 in width. You might like the extra 5 mm from 105 to 110

@@joselarrarte6964 I figured that’s why you asked but as a fitter I think stack height in a shoe isn’t going to throw your fitting off. People obsess about the silliest things. All this fitting obsession is a bunch of bullshit. I have been fitting for over 20 years. Fitting 1000’s of riders and I’m here to tell you there is no such thing as the perfect fit. Your body is an amazing machine. I ride 8 different bikes and the fit is slightly different on all of them - saddle heights, saddles themselves, different width and shaped handlebars different stems. I get on one them after a year of not riding it and it feels different logically I’ve been riding another bike just before it. 10 minutes into the ride all is good again.
Please don’t obsess about little things ride your bike and have fun.

@@SeeYouUpTheRoad Wowww, I believe this is what I needed to hear. Some time ago, I got a super expensive fitting. While getting the fitting done, the lady mentioned that my shoes were too big And I needed to change. Bought new shoes (from Sidi to Shimano) then she told me, you just completely threw off the fitting and wanted to charge me even more money to set the cleats on new shoes. Ever since I have been obsessed about any mm off; thus, why I started this conversation. What you just replied to me was like a wake up call to me. You are so right! Thanks.
Just got the CX403 wide. However, right out of the box the heel cup is extremely tight, thus my feet feels really constrained due to it pushes my feet all the way forward. Did you experience the same with yours before baking them?
