Most people couldn't read or write back then but I do know the Papacy has evidence from records kept by the Romans that a man they labelled as the King of the Jews was crucified by them on the Jewish passover. Anyway why would 12 people get together to make up such a story when all they gained from it was persecution and death unlike Bart Eshram who has made considerably large amounts of wealth from his rather questionable claims, assumptions and point of view. Bart Eshram thinks Jesus came from the home of David which is incorrect Jesus came from the HOUSE OF DAVID meaning his Blood line, the same with Joseph and he's also incorrect about King Herod.

There is a book called "Evidence that demands a Verdict" BY Josh Mcdowell, its worth reading if you need real evidence for the authenticity of the gospels. You can split hairs till kingdom come, Jesus died to reconcile us to God, nobody has impacted history as he has, to get into debate does not ever achieve much other than confuse the real message of the Gospels.
