Thanks for the VERY DETAILED review, John! I’m buying the StayFresh. I have had the Harvest Right for over 3 years and have had nothing but issues with it. Customer service was someone reading off a script, not fixing the issue and passing me off to someone one else who was equally incompetent. The StayFresh looks like it has a lot more higher quality components and craftsmanship than the Harvest Right. If no one believes me about the Harvest Right, I have one to sell very cheap.

It seems the Stay Fresh std pump is the equivalent to the “pro” model of the Harvest Right. It seems perfectly adequate for home use. If I was in the fd biz, I’d definitely upgrade to the Industrial pump. Stay Fresh is a very impressive product.

I currently have a harvest right freeze dryer. If you are not mechanically inclined then you should not buy a harvest right. I have taken it apart, worked on it over and over. It is still functioning, however I have purchased a Stay Fresh freeze dryer. Waiting on delivery. Hoping it works ok. Just got off the phone with a $45.00 bill for harvest right to help me fix my freeze dryer. I must admit that youtube videos have helped more. Not saying the help at harvest right was bad but more help was obtained from youtube. The techs at harvest right are trying to fix units that have a design problem. I truly hope they redesign their units. If they don't they won't be around for long. I have had my harvest right for 6 years now and have spent lots of money trying to keep it running. At this time it is running great.

@@vertex1029 I purchased the large StayFresh freeze dryer. It is an excellent product however, the rack inside has silicone pads on the bottom of each rack shelf that emits a horrible odor that gets into the food and ruins it. I called Tim at Stayfresh and he told me to run the freeze dryer empty for a few batches so that the silicone odor would wear off. With our machine we had already ruined about $350 worth of food that we had to throw out. I had to go in and change the settings on each cycle to set the shelves at 140° in order to burn that odor off. It now works like a charm. I am not sorry that we purchased it. The quality of the parts I believe is better than what is on other brands of freeze dryers. I have to say that Tim has been very helpful in getting this issue resolved. My advice to anyone is to run the dryer a few times and change the settings so the shelf temperature will reach 140° and then run it enough times to get rid of the odor. To see if it works, place a bread slice on the second shelf or any shelf and run the cycle. If that bread has an off taste of silicone, then run the machine until it doesn’t. It took overall about a dozen times. StayFresh needs to resolve this issue before sending their freeze dryers out to customers.

Electricity to run a freeze dryer works out to $2-$3 a day. That being said, have you priced buying pre-made organic freeze dried food? It is really expensive and a person can save lots of $$$ by making it yourself.
