happy new year Alfy great video when you don't put out a video for a little while I forget how really enjoyable they are to watch please give Devlin my regards
Thank you for letting us participate. Love your vids and especially this time, for non Facebook viewers, the cooking show. Will try it out. Have a wonderful 2024 !
So glad you enjoyed the cooking portion and I really do hope you and others will try baking the bread, very easy and very delicious! Have a wonderful 2024 as well!
One of your most cinematic episodes yet, I love the "walk" in the beginning, it looks beautiful! Also, one of the few "bread baking" videos I've enjoyed watching, I rarely bake but will try this one. Amazing how much space you have to work with on Northern Dancer, I'm a bit jealous! 😀
Thank you and so glad you enjoyed it! The bread really is easy to make, and I hope people will try it. We are very lucky to have a good sized galley on our Northern Dancer for sure. :)
excellant job on the video. We do Sour Dough bread, like twice a week. This is very much they way we do it. One trick we were told is,to put tree ice cubes in the bottom of the Dutch Oven before you drob the loaf in for it's main cooking. We do exactly the same cooking times. Wonderful video
Alfy, you are an amazing videographer! Speaking of artwork, the Northern Dancer V is a masterpiece. One of the test of a good bread is to witness the air pockets inside. You are going to have to bake some more of that delicious looking bread and tear it open so we can see its' goodness! Thanks for sharing another spectacular video with us. They truly are therapeutic. Hi Devlin! 💞⛵⛵⛵
Holy cow that bread is good!!! And I love that boat. I’m in Edmonton area but was born in Nanaimo and grew up there for 27 years. Miss the coast. Love Ladysmith. Love seeing old familiar places and seeing some I knew nothing about. Plan to live on a boat one day. All the best.
So glad you enjoyed seeing the bread, and around the area you used to live! We love the BC coast, and can't imagine a better place to live and cruise. :)
Hi Alfie ….we are retired sailors.Had our Nonsuch for about 40 yrs and managed to sail her to the Bahamas for yrs.Now in our eighties have become armchair sailors .I think BC would be a beautiful area to sail.Fair winds💐
awsome do not want to hear about minus 51 .wear did you get those boots canary yellow still wearing the black lamb chasers course had them for ever, Bread i am and still do make bread this recipe i will try but ad a touch sesamy seed oil to it just to enhance it love the vid
I was anchored off of transfer beach when the storm came through.... Dragged for 1/2 a km till the anchor caught. Had to be at the helm for 2 hours just to take the strain off the rode. Pretty sketchy.. lol
Great video, thanks for sharing and I’ll have to try making that bread! Winter sailing is underrated - I was out twice in November, once to Prevost Island (Annette inlet, similarly sheltered from SE winds ) and once to D’Arcy island (my first time there ) and both times I had the anchorage to myself 😊. My Espar diesel heater keeps our 35’ boat pretty toasty at night, although I’ve never tried being out in subzero temperatures!
Nice to hear you were able to get out this winter as well, a great time to be cruising on Canada's west coast! Having a heater definitely makes the difference. :)
Such a beautiful bit of scenery at Conover Cove. The vids you share are incredible. The little hut reminded me of a place in my corner of the world. If you are interested, Percy Island in the Whitsundays in Australia.
Wow! I've been away for a Looong time... 🙂 You certainly look like you've Moved In... Good to see. I really like your Bread Recipe. You might try making a Sourdough Yeast/Starter. It would have less than 10% the Gluten when done, from Regular White Flour bread. Sourdough is considered as "Fermented", where Gluten drops from about 2500 PPM to only 250 PPM... Much easier on your digestive system and the difference in taste is amazing... YT has hundreds of Sourdough Starter Recipes. You're Welcome... lol It's also good to see you're taking care of my Favorite Boat, in the World. The closest thing to that would be an Island Packet 445 or the 439... I'm working toward a 439... We'll see how that goes. I have to save a lot more pop-cycle sticks... lol Great video 🙂 Oh! Have you ever tried steering the boat using the mizzen? There are quite a few web sites that discus this technique... Enjoy! 🙂
This video just popped up in my YT... It's about Sourdough Bread and how to make it. Enjoy! th-cam.com/video/GR8FR9zfdEU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=32S83yCJN5IimQjE
Here's a short video on Sourdough Starter (Yeast) and how to make it. The first batch th-cam.com/video/ZHm1aKxAsIs/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Mu-SlZbBjGAUoLUican last for the rest of your life... Enjoy! 🙂
Nice boat! Really appreciate the valuable information in your videos. I've been watching earlier videos of sailing Canada's west coast, wonderfully informative. I'm planning on cruising there in my old 40ft sailing cat. I've added a vast solar array and electric drive as an addition to the sails and gas outboards.
Love you videos and boat. Just watched this again about the jalapeno bread which I made and was awesome. One question, where did you get the oven mitts? They look great. Thanks Tina Boreas
So glad you enjoyed this episode and great that you made the bread! We have had those oven bits for so long, I can't remember where we got them from. :)
Interesting, what you call Saran Wrap we call Cling Film. I trust you washed your hands after handling the jalapeno seeds, you only make that mistake once 😮
Funny how things have different names, but are the same. Oh yes, I learned that lesson a long time ago to always wash hand thoroughly after cutting Jalapeño peppers! ha
Why do you stay in really cold places? You have a beautiful boat. If I had that, I would have headed south months ago! If it's good choice to stay there don't complain about the cold!
@@lifeislikesailing - Aaah,... OK; I always knew you (with the exception of when in Whitehorse), living on your boat, that's why I asked... Where is home??? Anyhow, I'm looking forward your retirement so we can see you a Devlin crossing the Pacific towards warmer waters. 🇨🇦
Another terrific video! I LOVE your personality AND your boat!! Thank You !
So glad you enjoyed it, and seeing our adventures through our lens! :)
Thanks for sharing Alfie, great video, awesome photography..that bread looks delicious mmm.... stay safe 🙂

The most beautiful boat on the water today!
Thank you! 🙏
You can throw in a little Italian spice mix to that cheese bread!!! I am a retired baker viewing from sometimes sunny Sooke! CHEERS from HERE!
I will have to try adding some other spices into the mix! I hope you get some sunshine in Sooke soon!
Super peaceful and beautiful photography. Love your musical choices! Great video.
So glad you enjoyed following along. :)
Great video Alfie. And thanks for the bread baking lesson. You really are multi talented.
Thank you and so glad you enjoyed the baking portion of the episode!
Happy to see you back Alfie. Cheers from Squamish BC ❤
Always glad to be back and Fair Winds from Vancouver Island. :)
Fantastic, happy new year Alfy, thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it and Happy New Year!
sailing off season is so much better :)
We have no off season, although it has been very hot and humid for the past 5 weeks.
I agree completely! :)

So glad that you are back to see more sailing content! :)
Hi from T.O. Good to see you out and about Alfie. Everybody is entitled to a lazy day of relaxation. I wish somebody would invent smell-o-vision.
Hello back to you from Canada's West Coast and smell-o-vision would be amazing!
Well back! Happy New Year to you as well. Great to see you out on the water!
Thank you and Happy New Year to you!
Very nice episode, I like Wallace island. We have to sail back there, thanks for the reminder! 🙂
So glad you enjoyed it and I hope you make it back to Wallace Island again. :)
Very peaceful out there. Thank you for the video Alfy. You have almost inspired me to try making the bread.
A peaceful time of year and so glad you enjoyed it. And good luck with the bread!!

I think the brand of boots are Vikings and I am sure there are many little additions you can add to the bread, I hope you enjoy making it! :)
Wonderful video Alfy, your bread made e hungry, had to go and grab a snack lol. Hoping you and Devlin have a awesome summer sailing.
Thank you and I hope you found a good snack. We look forward to sharing more summer cruising after the winter season passes!
The scenery to me, is more beautiful in the winter than the summer
A beautiful time of year for sure!
Enjoyed the bread making!
I wish everyone could smell and taste it. :)
So nice. Thx for sharing! Wishing I lived somewhere the water didn’t freeze…3 months till lift in!
Glad you enjoyed it and I hope the next 3 months pass quickly for you! :)

Awesome video, what might the tide be there?
Thks
So glad you enjoyed this episode, and tides around here aren't too big...about 12 feet or so. In Prince Rupert we had tides upwards of 24-26 feet!
@@lifeislikesailing Oh my,I thought we had large tide range of 7-9 ft here in coastal
Georgia US.

I don't recall ever complaining about the cold, we are here by choice because we love this cruising area.
i want to buy a shirt or jacket i t
