Follow our sailing adventures on board our 1979 Hans Christian ketch as we continue to explore Canada's West Coast. Alfy & Devlin s/v Northern Dancer V
i see there's a 1980 HC43 in Bellingham for 70 grand, lists 180 hours on the Isuzu however i'm sure she needs a full refit. at 40 i would have jumped, at 50 i would have seriously considered, but at 60 i'm happy to let another jump.
Small world…as a retired sailor living in the Colorado Rocky mountains, my nephew lives directly across Princess Cove on the Salt Island coast. The rest of my Canadian family live on Hornby & Denman. I enjoy your cruising videos. Thanks Steve
Great vid folks. As usual, the surroundings are stunning. Pizzas look great! Mushrooms and\or pepperoni would be delicious, I would pass on the blue cheese tho 😅. Pretty cool that the solar charging takes care of business by midday.
Nice to see Devlin with you. She has such a lovely smile and is almost as chill as you, Alfy! My wife and I thought we were New York style, thin crust pizza people but we recently discovered Detroit style pizza which is quite thick and made with regular bread flour in a square pan. If done right, it has crispy, cheesy edges, kind of like the bites you crave on the edges of a baked mac & cheese.
Always best when Devlin and I are exploring together for sure, and she is the best co-captain I could ever dream of. NY and Detroit style pizzas both sound delicious! :)
Great video! We are in Salvador, Brazil, sailed from Mindelo, Cape Verde, being a good stop. You are going to regret not crossing the equator, respectfully suggesting an early January departure from Mindelo, making it to Salvador in time for Carnival in February. You should consider visiting the protected anchorage at Baia Do Aratu (S12.47, W38.27), approximately 10nm north of Salvador in the Bay of All Saints, Bahia, Brazil. It is shaped like a bowl, surrounded by low-lying hills, virtually undeveloped, probably the most protected anchorage we have ever been in, and the marina's community is safe.
That was the fastest 22 minutes of my life! The whole experience is simply enchanting. The pepperoni if made with any curing salts is an attack on your health so I will take the option with bleu cheese and mushrooms if the wonderful Miss Devlin would be so kind as to share. 🤣 Thanks for sharing as always. There are no better videos when it comes to sailing and providing incredible videography with peaceful sounds of intermingled geese honks and gentle, appropriate music. Thanks Alfie and Devlin, it was wonderful to see Miss Devlin again! I am just curious, may I ask how long of a drive it is from home to the majestical Northern Dancer V? Thanks again!! ⛵⛵⛵
So glad you enjoyed it, and good to have healthy food options for sure. :) We are very close to our Northern Dancer V, so not long at all to see her. :)
Nice to see Devlin, definitely better to explore with someone to share the experience. Is the glass tumbler instead of a rolling pin or is that a trick of the trade? On the subject of Pizza, I like loads of mushrooms, sliced vine tomatoes and spicy pepperoni along with all the other usual suspects.
Thank you, and so glad you enjoyed it. We are starting to get some warmer days upwards of 10c-13c, but can still get some cold nights with just above 0c. Water is probably about 7c-8c.
Square pizza!
That is cRaZy.
No blue chees for me but I have to admit blue cheese and mushroom is very nice combo.
Nice episode. Thank you.
Cheers,
a.
So glad you enjoyed the episode and the surprise of a square pizza! ha
Always good to see Devlin! Love the hikes, it's always great to see nature.
Always best when she is on board for sailing adventures and fun hikes. :)
Nice to see Devlin back on the boat. So beautiful up there.

Thank you. :)
Fantastic, and with the two of you even better! Thanks for sharing.
Always so much better when Devlin and I are together on these adventures!
Thank you Alfie for a relaxing morning
Glad you enjoyed it! :)
Hello from Switzerland! I once got to cruise in Desolation Sound and miss BC very much. I envy your life!
Hello back from Canada's West Coast, and so nice to hear you have been on a trip here! :)
Thanks for the ride!
Glad you enjoyed following along. :)

A very small world indeed! Your Canadian family all live in beautiful locations. :)

A single malt scotch would have topped the pizza off. Thanks for the video. Good to see Devlin again.
That would have been nice for sure! :)

Sounds like a beautiful anchorage, and once we are done exploring Canada's West Coast we just may venture further. :)
Regretting is a waste of time
Thanks! Great video and great to have Devlin back on the boat. Two of my favorite anchorage locations. Cheers, SV BROOKLYN, Salish Sea.
You are welcome and so glad you enjoyed it. Always best when Devlin in on board our s/v Northern Dancer V! :)
Both pizza's looked great - did you save some for me ? You've made me hungry now !!!

I’ll have the mushrooms one, thanks !😊
Good choice. :)
Nice, always jump on a new video !
Thank you and hope you enjoyed it. :)
I would favour the mushrooms and Blue Cheese pizza, if you don’t mind.
A good choice!
Your video looks like what I would like to make someday and try to get out of my way
I hope you can get out and do that soon. :)
I prefer sausage, peppers & mushroom; but I would eat the pepperoni as well. ⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵
So many topping options!
♥

Always best when Devlin and I are exploring together. We couldn't find the rolling pin, so a glad always can do the trick. So many topping options! :)

Nice episode! What is the temperature in air and water at this time of the year?
Thank you, and so glad you enjoyed it. We are starting to get some warmer days upwards of 10c-13c, but can still get some cold nights with just above 0c. Water is probably about 7c-8c.
Another great video. Which camera do you use in your videos?
Thank you and I use a Canon 80D DSLR camera.
