Mike, I am a BIG fan of yours. Man you are simply crazy, I love to watch all your videos. You are enthusiastic, with quite a will power. You have a lovely supporting family, I believe this is your source of strength. Thumbs up dear, keep it up.
I'm a sculpture, jeweler by trade and hot rodder by hobby, whos works have been published in all the major publications 100s of times...I say this because I understanding beauty, detail and craftsmanship... I stand humbled, shocked at the beauty of this hot-rod custom airplane... I love the skill, detail and beauty captured in this airplane, I'm a fan, great job terrific!...I love all the videos please keep them coming ...
The original wilga looks sort of gangly, with its short stubby nose, long skinny landing gear. The way you have modified this airplane is not only impressive in its performance, but also in its appearance, almost like this is how it was meant to look from the beginning. You have taken a beast and made it beautiful! Congratulations on an impressive build and modification!
You should see turbulence! What about the camera guy? He did awesome work to and deserves recognition for it! But I know what you mean you put it better than I could, he turned a beast into something beautiful but that's still a beast on the inside! Lol
Seeing his wife and kids it's obvious where he gets his joie de vivre. His enthusiasm is contagious and his mastery of various materials (carbon fiber, aluminum, steel, paint, etc.) and attention to detail (wiring, documentation, engineering) make him an inspiration to anyone who sets out to build something.
Fantastic! Love the enthusiasm, love the plane, love the vision and execution of the man - Mike Patey. Thanks Jason for capturing this. I can't get enough of seeing DRACO in action. I hope to come over and see it soon.
Mike's attitude towards stepping to a new airplane is amazing no ball busting or show boating. Alot of pilots can learn just from this video. I have the same attitude that's why I'm still alive i have to self certify as I fly a cassut and a Taylor mono both single seats. I know his feelings lining up for the first time 💪🏻✈️ good job Mike. Cracking video Jason you should do more i enjoy your stuff it's not only fun to watch but it's also educational for me especially when you talk about impossible turns back to the runway. Please do one demonstrating the effects of getting to slow on the base turn to finals and spinning out. It will save lives. Much love to all the flying cowboys and family's your great people we need more like you 🏔️🛩️
After following Mike's build on his channel, and seeing this thing in action at Oshkosh, this is my new favorite modern airplane. It's perfect. Mike did a phenomenal job with this plane, I was just speechless watching his build and watching this thing perform.
Thank you Mike Patey for sharing the story of Draco. I was never really a fan of airplanes or airplane building. however watching you "re-build" your "Velga" and being able to explain that in simplified terms was fascinating to me (and many others) to say the least. Your determination and dedication to creating a highly modified version of an already complex hi-performance machine to meet your own strict standards is admirable and would not have been possible without your seemingly unlimited enthusiasm to what you do best. Your an artist in the true sense of the word. Congratulations on the initial test flight. Cheers !
I just spent my entire saturday enjoyed watching your draco videos, Congratulations on all your work to create such a great and beautiful air worthy aircraft.
I never get sick of watching Draco, a beautiful and sexy plane, post engineered by a brilliant man, cant wait to see more flight videos from the Pateys' .
Yeah Awesome......the plane just glides into the air............man what an awesome series of build movies and the final grande finale thanks guys, you are the kings of youtube !
Fantastic!, I watched all the build episodes and it felt like being their throughout, so cool to see it flies as brilliant as it looks !, a great testimony to a exceptional focused build with a enthusiast focused on quality and perfection!, what a spectacularly awesome job !!.
Wanted to see this video again. It's 6/30/20. This was a great day for you, your wife, and Draco with smiles all around! I've seen the white Wilga you've purchased. I can't wait to see this day happen again when DRACO X takes to the sky's!! Best wishes to you and yours. AirHammer out!!
This awesome plane reminds me of one of those wasps with the elongated body. Its just so different to anything else out there. The Pateys are quite the pair, and their enthusiasm and dedication to aviation are unmatched.
Sat down and watched the entire series tonight and loved it. Don 't have a license to fly but was able to go up in a tail dragger about 20 years ago and had a blast in it. Hopefully Mike has a chance to make it out to one of the OKC area fly in's at some point. Would really enjoy being able to see this thing in real life. And even though my wife didn't understand a lot of it she enjoyed watching as well and wants to see the plane and taking a flight would be unbelievable .
A big thumbs up from this aerospace systems engineer and recreational pilot for a fantastic job on an amazing airplane. 👍 For Mike and every other builder out there: keep creating! Applied creative energy like this keeps aviation vibrant and interesting.
Mike I'm a 70 yr old A&P mechanic retired, i worked in africa for many years maintaining UN aircraft in the bush, one A/C was a Buffalo & it had 3 segment Fowler flaps that worked so good we had to add power to make it come down(lol). It could be a nice addition to Drago. Best Regards.
What a gorgeous --------! The airplane! The airplane! Oh my....I love your enthusiasm and that of your family too! Amazing what Human, and in this case, American ingenuity can do! Thanks for sharing this with the rest of us....I am not the least bit jealous...just happy someone can create such a Draco!!!
He kept the landing gear down as well for his first flight.......WHAT A PROFESSIONAL TEST PILOT🤟 Cheers from France. Even your cockpit looks amazing.very very good job.beautifull airplane Patey!
I love that beast ! I'm so jealous , I have wanted to be a pilot all of my life but because of my medical problems that could never happen for me. I'm an old man now but I still dream about flying my own plain. sometimes life just isn't fair.
Just sitting on the ground, the prop alone must make a lot of people do a double-take when they first see this plane. I know it's never going to be used as a tug like many Wilgas were originally, but it'd do a hell of job of it!
why am I only seeing this momentous Draxo first flight now MIKEY BOY, as I did search for it. but great thanks, now with scrappy almost done, GBTW on DRACO X, as on paper I'm sure it's done with knowledge the it's brother DRACO the first. thank you.
Grate... just turned on notifications. Sure wish I would of got'n into these... My old boss had a Helo that I flew a couple times. He takes it up into fly in only lakes, streams camping n fishing with his buddys. Enjoying your videos... keep it up thx
Awesome stuff. I'd have a can or two as well before flying that thing for the first time to!!!! There's 1 dislike - who is this pill? What's not to like??!!

Such a shame to hear about the crash, today, I had to re-watch the first flight...Glad you and your family are OK, Mike. I hope you rebuild!!
Same feeling...
Yes he said so. Already got a new airframe.
I've seen all the videos of this plane, but this is my favorite. Mike is the happiest man in the world at that moment he took off.
Watching your first flight put a smile On my face.
What a funny lady.....cheers from the French alps America.👋

Fu Dog Whisperer couldn’t agree more. It just looks “right”. Like it was meant to be.
That’s because this is a wilga 2000. It doesn’t have the piston engine like the old one used to. Turboprop baby💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
a trick: you can watch series at Flixzone. I've been using it for watching loads of movies during the lockdown.
@Bradley Nelson yup, I've been using flixzone for since november myself :)
I love every single video of Draco I can get. What an incredible machine!
Hell yeah! I’ve watched all of Mikes videos and this guy deserves everything he has.
Waiakalulu wow... great comment!!

I struggle to find what flattens Mike. He is always excited. I wanna be like him when i grow up.😊
I don't think he's grown up - and that's great!
😃
binge watching . just found your channel. Love the shop you have and all the tooling. I am inspired. Back to work!

That thing is great! Been watching the many videos of it all week while Oshkosh was in full swing. Thanks for sharing! 👍

It's as if Mike was hearing the music as he spoke, perfectly in time. Slick editing right there. 😁
I think this is my favorite plane of the last 25 years.
I can't remember being so happy like that even when I bought my first car haha xD
Just sitting on the ground, the prop alone must make a lot of people do a double-take when they first see this plane. I know it's never going to be used as a tug like many Wilgas were originally, but it'd do a hell of job of it!

It LIVES! Go DRACO!
I've watch so many of your videos, and now I want to HEAR it as well as SEE it do what it's supposed to do, like LOTS of STOL's! When are you going to finally put that out?
Peter Karig next video and lots of bc flying this weekend...

The tail wheel has a flat tire I think or maybe low pressure
