Did 11 consecutive RAGBRAI rides, last one was in 2000. This video brings back so many great memories. Along with extreme heat, severe thunderstorms and lightning, hail while out on the route. Upper 90's in the afternoon, low fifties and foggy in the morning, arm and leg warmers required until the fog burned off. Wouldn't trade it for anything.

A nice compilation! Cool that you got to ride through the Cyclone and Hawkeye stadiums.

I always wanted to do RAGRAI one time, but after seeing this maybe not. Way too many people. I would HATE standing in line. Perhaps I could make it work if I got up at 3-4AM and got out ahead of the crowds. Still couldn't avoid the crowds at night though.

Fun this year, but waaayy to crowded, made gettting some speed on the downhills very difficult. Also, I miss the days of saying RAGBRAI was the cheapest meal I ever purchased.

The people of Iowa in the towns both big and small were awesome. Sadly, RAGBRAI as an organization had their pants around their ankles from start to finish. This was the tens pounds of you know what stuffed into a five pound bag. Starting with the huge numbers of riders who never received their packets in the mail and had to stand in long lines to having a mediocre EXPO not inside but outside in the parking lot of a large EXPO Center on a hot and humid day. What if a major thunderstorm had rolled in? This event likely had more bandit riders than registered riders due to the inept procedures in place. I have never seen firsthand the number of bad crashes like I witnessed here daily mostly due to an overcrowded course. Please understand in any large event there are going to be crashes but this was on an entirely different level. In all honestly it was complete carnage at times with riders being hauled away in ambulance after ambulance. Countless riders stranded on course daily with the promised SAG Wagon service never coming to their aid. In speaking to veterans of this event they themselves were amazed at how crowded the course was for a majority of each day. My takeaway is clearly the crowds were so large due to it being the 50th anniversary of the event. Now keep in mind RAGBRAI the organization is where my criticism is aimed, shame on them. Once again, I take my helmet off to the volunteers and law enforcement in all the towns who worked really hard to try and make the best out of a bad situation.

I want to do this! Was it hard finding a place for travel trailers to park every night or did you book anything in advance? We have a Class C we'd want to move around.

You can buy a pass from RAGBRAI that gives you more dedicated access but my advice would be to to find your own parking after doing the pass. Schools, large parking lots, parks, or even on the street is generally available. Just be respectful of your area and neighbors and clean up when you leave. You will find some of the dedicated parking may be way away from the route or other things such as expo.

I've heard so many great things about this ride, but it looks like a giant mess! Bikes all over the ground, people doing dangerous stuff, it's just asking for an injury or broken gear. I think I'd rather ride with people that look and act like they know what they're doing.

Yeah, I would not want to do a ride that big. Can't be supported properly and a disaster waiting to happen

There is rarely a problem. The vast majority are careful and in 24 years of doing this I've never had a serious problem.
